So You’re “Body Sensitive” – How Your EMF is Changing Your Reality

Is your own EMF (electro-magnetic frequency) causing things to happen?

Editor’s Note: Higher Journeys

Several years ago, I noticed as my husband stood in the breezeway between my laptop in the kitchen and the router in our family room, that the laptop would suddenly lose its wireless connection. When he moved his position, the connection re-established. In similar fashion, when either of us stood in roughly the same spot (say between a wireless speaker in the kitchen and music source/router in the family room), the connection would be broken.

THIS is EMF!

It was then that I realized that somehow, and in a major way, our own energy field (EMF) was affecting that of the technologies that share our space at home.

Although it is fairly well known that our bodies are literally bio-electric in make-up, few realize how much the energy fields that occupy the “space” of our body can affect a variety of electronics.

Question is, why is it that some individuals have the uncanny ability to stop watches or clocks, blow out light fixtures and shut down computers on a regular basis?

The following post offers a succinct explanation as well as ways to examine how our body electric is pumped up according to our emotional state.

Source: TechQuility by Julie Strier

When you are on the computer, does it seem to do things that aren’t “normal” or does it work fine one day and then won’t work at all the next day? Are you one of those people who goes through device after device for no apparent reason? Is there other unexplained, almost supernatural, phenomenon that happens with you when it comes to computers and electronics?

Maybe it’s your energy field.

Please note that while the phenomenon we are about to discuss is very real for many people (I’ve personally seen it in action many times) it is not necessarily widely recognized by the scientific or technical communities as a real causality of computer / electronics issues.

An energy field, or electric field, is a physics term used to describe the magnetic fields created in the space surrounding electrically charged particles. Because of our electrically charged particles, our cells and tissues generate electrical fields. This is typically referred to as an “aura,” although it’s a bit more complicated than that. Should you like to get into the science behind this, here is some information surrounding the possible physics of human energy fields.

It is believed (and seen and experienced by many) that your aura can interfere, interrupt, and even affect and break computers and electronic devices. For some this happens routinely, and they go through device after device, with each one breaking for no apparent reason. For others, the problem is experienced intermittently, like when their emotions are running high, they’re overly stressed out, or when they are sick or run down. And yet others still will never experience this phenomenon at all.

One possible reason that human energy fields can affect electronic energy fields is that our modern day electronics all contain quartz crystals which help the internal clocks keep time, and which also help transmit and receive signals. The computer is electrifying and vibrating the quartz using a magnetic field, so if your personal energy field is strong enough, it could affect and even change the frequency at which the crystal is vibrating.

If you are experiencing an abnormal level of computer or electronic weirdness, it could be because you too are experiencing disturbances with your energy field. If this experience is sudden and out of the blue, review how you’re feeling. Are you stressed out, angry, or feeling any other strong emotion that could be causing the problem? If you are overly emotional for any reason, try to find ways to calm your emotions and see if that helps the problem. If you’re sick or rundown, give yourself some extra TLC and see if the problem is still occurring once you’re better.

If you experience these disturbances all the time, such as the man I know who cannot keep a digital camera for longer than a few months because they just stop working, you could have a larger problem with your energy field, one that may be corrected by finding ways to re-ground yourself, along with visiting an energy specialist, such as a Reiki practitioner, who can re-attune and align your chakras (the energy centers at particular points throughout the body).

You can also correct the problem by keeping particular stones or crystals around your desk, to help mitigate the effects of your electric field. Some good crystals to use for this purpose are: black tourmaline, tourmalated quartz, hematite, smokey quartz, or unakite. When you are experiencing effects, either wear the stones, or place them on your desk while you’re working.

While the scientific results are still out on this phenomenon, what do you believe? As humans, can our energy fields affect our electronics? Leave us a comment and tell us your thoughts.

Why Some People with Brain Markers of Alzheimer’s Have No Dementia

By Olga Zolochevska, et al | Science Daily

Summary:

A new study has uncovered why some people that have brain markers of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) never develop the classic dementia that others do. The results showed that resilient individuals had a unique synaptic protein signature that set them apart from both demented AD patients and normal subjects with no AD pathology.

Full Story:

A new study from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has uncovered why some people that have brain markers of Alzheimer’s never develop the classic dementia that others do. The study is now available in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia, affects more than 5 million Americans. People suffering from Alzheimer’s develop a buildup of two proteins that impair communications between nerve cells in the brain — plaques made of amyloid beta proteins and neurofibrillary tangles made of tau proteins.

Intriguingly, not all people with those signs of Alzheimer’s show any cognitive decline during their lifetime. The question became, what sets these people apart from those with the same plaques and tangles that develop the signature dementia?

“In previous studies, we found that while the non-demented people with Alzheimer’s neuropathology had amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles just like the demented people did, the toxic amyloid beta and tau proteins did not accumulate at synapses, the point of communication between nerve cells,” said Giulio Taglialatela, director of the Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases. “When nerve cells can’t communicate because of the buildup of these toxic proteins that disrupt synapse, thought and memory become impaired. The next key question was then what makes the synapse of these resilient individuals capable of rejecting the dysfunctional binding of amyloid beta and tau?”

In order to answer this question, the researchers used high-throughput electrophoresis and mass spectrometry to analyze the protein composition of synapses isolated from frozen brain tissue donated by people who had participated in brain aging studies and received annual neurological and neuropsychological evaluations during their lifetime. The participants were divided into three groups — those with Alzheimer’s dementia, those with Alzheimer’s brain features but no signs of dementia and those without any evidence of Alzheimer’s.

What We Say Subconsciously with Our Voice & Why We Like Certain Voices More than Others

By Jill Mattson | * Jill’s Wings of Light

What does our voice tell other people about how we want to be treated? Our subconscious vibes affect the way people treat us. Unconsciously others are affected by our nonverbal messages. A good portion of relationships occurs below our conscious minds.

People react to the subtle energy we send out…that we are not aware of. That is a scary thought to me. However, you can increase your consciousness, by focusing on your thoughts and feelings as you interact with people. Focus on tiny feelings that you may not even be able to put into words. What you think and feel will carry on your words.

Our voice is a bridge to others. We subconsciously and habitually tell people how we want to be treated as quickly as we introduce ourselves.

What voice do we use, when we say our name?

Let say our name several times and feel how it sounds.

These questions will help analyze our subtle messages to others:

  • Do you love your name as it comes out of your mouth? Do you even like your name? Can you say your name as if it is the most special sound in the world?
  • What are you feeling? Proud? Insecure? Suspicious? These feelings are part of your messages. They are not hidden.
  • What is the speed volume, pitch, EQ of our name? Try saying your name and changing each one of these items. Which ones sound the best?
  • What is your posture, which affects your voice?
  • Where does your name vibrate in your body? Your head? Your gut? Your nose? Try saying your name and think of a different area of your body and watch your voice change.
  • Do you change the pitch at the end of your name? Does it go up or down?
  • Do you say our name like a question, expressing uncertainty about who you are and what you want? Perhaps you sound like you need someone else’s approval, when you should approve of yourself.
  • Do you swallow our breath? Do you say our name in the front or the back of your mouth? Do you want to reach out to others or hope they come chasing after you? You should feel and think, as you want to be treated.

Your feelings carry on your voice whether or not you are aware of it. You are more responsible for how others treat us than we realize. Change your relationships with such a simple thing: your voice.

So, how do we develop our voice to provide us with targeted benefits? We can think about voices that we “like” to think about how we can use our voice to bring those desired qualities to our own voice.

If you are like me, you just “like” certain voices more than others; there is just something about them. What voices do you like? Can you pinpoint what you like about them? What makes your ears perk up and listen to them?

Now think about how the voice goes along with each person’s personality. Then, try to determine which are desirable personality traits in that person. What do those traits sound like? How is their sound different than yours? When we match these voice qualities we create the energy of this attribute. We can benefit from simply being aware of voices that we like. Let’s keep a library of them. Within our favorite voices are qualities that we desire. These attributes are a part of us that are waiting to be discovered!

For example, recall someone’s voice. Now analyze qualities with in that voice that make it attractive. For example, I like Shaun Connery’s voice. It is solid, yet gentle. I sense patience and understanding with the voice. It is slower paced than mine, with more bass tones. I sense that it is not easily swayed. I like this because I tend to be easily swayed and I want to be more sure of myself and strong. I am too quick to go along with others. I can add more bass tones and slow down the pace of my voice down. Using these adaptations in my voice allows me to shift into this stronger energy space. Others respond to me, respecting the strength I am showing.

In summary we can analyze voices for good qualities and practice these qualities or virtues by changing our voices. That is because all change does not come from exerting our will power. Sometimes it comes from a change in energy, which can be experienced, by changing our voice.

500+ Renowned Scientists Jointly Share Why They Reject Darwin’s Theory of Evolution

By Arjun Walia | Collective Evolution

IN BRIEF

  • The Facts: Many scientists around the world have voiced their concerns regarding Darwin’s theory of evolution. The science is not adequate to explain life and human creation.
  • Reflect On: Why is this theory pushed so hard? Is this an example of scientific dogma? Some educational institutions are teaching it as fact. Why aren’t we taught to question accepted beliefs regarding the origins of human life? Why are there only two options?

It’s amazing how the theory of evolution is pushed on the populace as fact and sound science, but like Professor Colin Reeves, from the Department of Mathematical Sciences from Coventry University explains, “Darwinism was an interesting idea in the 19th century, when handwaving explanations gave a plausible, if not properly scientific, framework into which we could fit biological facts. However, what we have learned science the days of Darwin throws doubt on natural selection’s ability to create complex biological systems – and we still have little more than handwaving as an argument in its favour. “

As a biochemist and software developer who works in genetic and metabolic screening, I am continually amazed by the incredible complexity of life. For example, each of us has a vast ‘computer program’ of six billion DNA bases in every cell that guided our development from a fertilized egg, specifies how to make more than 200 tissue types, and ties all this together in numerous highly functional organ systems. Few people outside of genetics or biochemistry realize that evolutionists still can provide no substantive details at all about the origin of life, and particularly the origin of genetic information in the first self-replicating organism. What genes did it require — or did it even have genes? How much DNA and RNA did it have — or did it even have nucleic acids? How did huge information-rich molecules arise before natural selection? Exactly how did the genetic code linking nucleic acids to amino acid sequence originate? Clearly the origin of life — the foundation of evolution – is still virtually all speculation, and little if no fact.

Although this seems to be ongoing, and new information has emerged, I’d like to have a discussion about it.

We’re dealing with a controversial topic here, one that has some scientists reprimanded for going against it in some cases. This theory is really being pushed hard on the scientific community, which could be the reason why these scientists chose to voice their concern in such a manner. It’s being taught, in some cases, in schools as fact.

Although the list is an old one, it goes to show that this thought is out there, and this type of thinking is clearly legitimate and exists for several reasons. There are multiple theories out there which we should be discussing, take for example, Francis Crick, a Nobel Prize-winning co-discoverer of the DNA double helix, as Gregg Braden points out, Crick believed that life’s building blocks have to be the result of something more than random mutations a “quirk” of nature…

There Is More Than One Type Of Intelligence

By Alanna Ketler | Collective Evolution

  • The Facts:The current model of schooling puts emphasis on one particular type of education, which only covers a small percentage of the population of children. It also educates children in batches, assuming they are all ready for the same thing.
  • Reflect On:Is it time to reevaluate this method of schooling to be more inclusive to children with all types of other intellect and creative ability? Is our education system even bringing out the full potential in our children?

What was your experience in school like? Did you hate it or love it? Were you an all ‘A’ student and found it to be a breeze or did you struggle with understanding some of the subjects you were being taught?

The fact of the matter is, our modern education system is not catering to students as individuals, but lumping them all into the same category and expecting them to succeed, even at things they are not particularly good at or even interested in, while those who got the highest test scores were praised and reminded of their perceived superiority and intelligence.

Because of this, many children experience anxiety around tests because they have been taught over and over again that their value is determined by a letter grade and not their creative abilities. If one child has an amazing skill to write poetry, but then fails a math exam, the latter will be the topic that is looked at and how this failure can be turned around. Often telling the child they need to pay attention more in class or study longer, even though this particular topic may not be where the child’s intelligence lies. This system is designed strictly for children to learn how to memorize and regurgitate what they have learned in the form of tests, not giving much leeway for other talents and abilities.

Our modern-day schooling system was designed to train children into becoming the perfect employee, to sit at a desk perhaps, or follow orders effectively for when they are old enough to enter the workforce. The hours, little time for play, taking instructions from a person with authority and unfortunately, leaving little room for exploring creative abilities. This system, in reality, only caters to a small percentage of people in the world, and because of this, we are effectively killing the creative potential that exists within all human beings.

Luckily there are some companies like GK & Partners who are intent on utilizing technology to improve current methods of teaching, which is encouraging.

Inventor of Super Efficient Electricity Generator on Suppression of Free Energy Machines

By Arjun Walia | Collective Evolution

IN BRIEF

  • The Facts:Adam Trombly and colleague Joseph Kahn designed and applied for patents for the Closed Path Homopolar Generator, a revolutionary design for super-efficient generation of electrical power. He explains the suppression of free energy machines.
  • Reflect On:We have more than enough technology and resources to completely change the way we produce energy here on Earth. Why does it take so long to implement them? Why don’t we ever see them?

What is a ‘free energy’ machine? It doesn’t mean ‘free’ as in the monetary sense, but more so ‘free’ as in the resource being extracted to produce the energy, as Nikola Tesla once said, is available in “unlimited quantities.” It’s not like extracting oil from the Earth, and using that oil to power our planet because we know, first of all, that it’s destroying our planet; secondly, it’s not a limitless source of energy. New developments in all areas of science, especially ones that don’t seem to fit the frame, always receive harsh criticism, and are dealt blows to their progress and acceptance with labels like ‘pseudoscience.’

“The day science beings to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.” – Nikola Tesla.

Tesla also once said that,

Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be driven by a power obtainable at any point in the universe. This idea is not novel…We find it in the delightful myth of Antheus, who derives power from the earth; we find it among subtle speculations of one of your splendid mathematicians….Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static, or kinetic? If static our hopes are in vain; if kinetic – and this we know it is, for certain – then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheel work of nature. – Nikola Tesla (source)

This is exactly what I am talking about here, and why legendary quantum physicist John Wheeler told the world that “No point is more central than this, that space is not empty, it is the seat of the most violent physics.”

More Advanced Than Current ‘Clean Energies’

The truth is that there are developments which are far more advanced than wind, solar, and other clean energy initiatives that could completely transform our planet and change the world forever. Imagine if everyone on the planet had access to clean, free, limitless amounts of energy, for an unlimited period of time? If they do exist, and there is plenty of evidence to suggest that they do, then we are sitting on developments that can revolutionize our planet. The question is, where are they? Why is there so much red tape, and why does it take decades for a revolutionary idea and or technology to hit the mainstream?

As it turns out, it’s not the technology that will change our world, but the consciousness and intention behind our technological developments.

37 Years To Grant Patent

One great example (out of many) of delayed patent applications come from Dr. Gerald F. Ross. He filed a patent application for a new invention he had devised to defeat the jamming of electromagnetic transmissions at specified frequencies. It was not until June 17, 2014 (almost 37 years later) that this patent was granted.

Secrets of Sonic Levitation Behind the Building of the Pyramids and Other Seeming Miracles

By Jill Mattson | * www.jillswingsoflight.com

Graham Hancock Pyramid

Ancient manuscripts describe sound levitating heavy objects, perhaps aiding in the building of huge pyramids and monuments. Ancient texts, all over the globe, describe sound as an effective method to move and alter dense physical matter.

According to ancient wisdom, the power of sound increased with large numbers of participants singing or playing musical instruments. Each individual accessed energy that originated from the heavens. Two singers together created more energy than each singing separately, as if their combined voices increased energy logarithmically. Heavenly energy from large choirs constantly sang to make a country potent, almost invincible.

Author Bruce Cathie described an eye witness account of many Tibetan monks moving huge boulders with their voices and musical instruments. The exact location of the singers and musicians was crucial for the “anti-gravity sonic effects” to work.[1] Various ancient writings describe directional sounds as a source of mechanical power, as if sound was squirted out of a water pistol: aim was important.[2]

A  German article, by Swedish engineer Olaf Alexanderson[3] described sonic levitation: ‘We know from the priests of the far east that they were able to lift heavy boulders up high mountains with the help of groups of various sounds… the knowledge of the various vibrations in the audio range demonstrates to a scientist of physics that a vibrating and condensed sound field can nullify the power of gravitation.” Observations[4] only 20 years ago in Tibet from a civil engineer, Henry Kjelson, reported that a Swedish doctor, Dr Jarl, made a journey to Tibet in 1939 to visit a high Lama. This lama let him observe sonic levitation of huge rocks up a cliff of about 250 meters.

The task was accomplished by mapping out exactly where singers and musicians stood. They angled their sound to go underneath a huge rock and up it went. Details are given in Bruce Cathie’s free book, Acoustic Levitation of Stones.[5] In another example, Edward Leedskalnin, a man with humble financial resources and a fourth grade education, built a monument to his lost love who canceled their wedding one day before the ceremony. In this area of Homestead Florida the coral can be up to 4,000 feet thick. Leedskalnin cut and moved huge blocks of coral himself with only hand tools, yet each section weighed more than 58 tons.[6] Leedskalnin left the castle as proof that he could move large stones without equipment.

Leedskalnin claimed he knew how the Egyptians built their pyramids. He built Coral Castle by reportedly “singing” to large stones to lift them. Leedskalin placed his hands over a stone to be levitated. He sung a scale until his hands felt a response from the stone. (Each tone was sustained to detect a subtle vibratory response.) The sound that produced the strongest vibration was sustained for quite some time to give the rock a powerful dosage and the rock levitated.

In a high tech example, high powered sound can suspend and move objects in air. Yoshili Hashimoto of Tokyo’s Kaijo Corporation developed an acoustic levitation machine. The sound vibrates 20,000 times per second to keep a small silicon wafer hovering one millimeter above a surface.  Acoustic levitation experiments have been conducted in space as the absence of gravity make better conditions to observe just the impact of sound.

The wonders of sound… we have not scratched the surface of what this energy source can do – if properly harnessed. The future science of sound and vibrational energy will “rock” our world.

Where Quantum Physics, Neuroscience & Health Merge With Spirituality

By Arjun Walla | Collective Evolution

Things have drastically changed since Galileo was placed under house arrest for his scientifically accurate views, simply because they threatened the beliefs put out by the Catholic Church at the time.

Today, things have changed, to an extent. We still have information that is heavily controlled by the global elite. This small group of people and the corporations they run practically control all aspects of our lives, from media and finance to healthcare, education, and more. Most importantly, they control all of the information we see and read, whilst labelling everything else as ‘fake news.’ It’s a good thing this isn’t considered a conspiracy theory anymore, because if it were, we’d be in big trouble. Eisenhower warned us about the potential of “misplaced” power that would severely undermine American democracy. JFK warned us about the fact that there are those who wish to capitalize on an announced need for increased security, and that it would be “seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of censorship and concealment.” Today, some historians estimate that the U.S. government classifies trillions of new pages of text every single year. You can read more about that topic, the Black Budget, and Special Access Programs (SAPs) here.

Things are different in the sense that the religious and spiritual communities are much more open to information and evidence that help us to understand the true nature of reality. Many religious and spiritual teachings are actually being confirmed by science, and that is evident by the list below. Take, for example, the Dalai Lama. He’s never been a stranger to science, and throughout his leadership he’s constantly advocated for the collusion of science and Eastern philosophy.

As Vice News points out:

This intersection of interests was manifest in the diversity of His audience, which was comprised of roughly 150 Tibetan bhikkhus, academics, and students who had piled into the conference center at Jawaharlal Nehru University to listen to the Dalai Lama and a panel of physicists and monastic scholars discuss the intersection of quantum physics and Madhyamaka Buddhist philosophy.

It’s truly amazing, especially in the fields of neuroscience and quantum physics, just how much knowledge our ancient cultures had regarding the true nature of reality. In many cases, modern day science is in fact catching up to this ancient knowledge. Personally, I believe science can take us far, but only so far, as we are burdened today by scientific dogmas and an industry plagued by corruption.

Non-Material Science

“Despite the unrivaled empirical success of quantum theory, the very suggestion that it may be literally true as a description of nature is still greeted with cynicism, incomprehension and even anger.”

– T. Folger, “Quantum Shmantum”;Discover 22:37-43, 2001

Non-material science began to emerge at the turn of the nineteenth century when physicists started to explore the relationship between energy and the structure of matter. When they did this, the belief that a physical, Newtonian material universe was at the very heart of scientific knowledge was abandoned, and the realization that matter is nothing but an illusion replaced it. The very make-up of an atom is comprised of what we believe to be empty space. At this point, scientists began to recognize that everything in the universe is made out of energy, and this has been known in the scientific community for more than one hundred years.

“Some materialistically inclined scientists and philosophers refuse to acknowledge these phenomena because they are not consistent with their exclusive conception of the world. Rejection of post-materialist investigation of nature or refusal to publish strong science findings supporting a post-materialist framework are antithetical to the true spirit of scientific inquiry, which is that empirical data must always be adequately dealt with. Data which do not fit favored theories and beliefs cannot be dismissed a priori. Such dismissal is the realm of ideology, not science.”

 – Dr. Gary Schwartz, professor of psychology, medicine, neurology, psychiatry and surgery at the University of Arizona (source linked below)

Although scientific methods based upon materialistic philosophy have contributed much to our world, this philosophy has dominated the world of academia to the point that it has restricted the sciences from exploring other models and prevented the equal study of mind and spirituality. When we discovered phenomena that could not be explained by classical physics, it led to the development of quantum mechanics. This introduced the concepts of energy, frequency, emotions, feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and consciousness. It’s since been discovered that these concepts play a vital role in what we refer to as the physical material world today.

“The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.”

– Nikola Tesla

The points made here summarize the problem with not recognizing, acknowledging, and examining phenomena that go past the borders of the physical material world. These points were co-authored by Dr. Gary Schwartz of the University of Arizona, Dr. Mario Beauregard of the University of Arizona, and Dr. Lisa Miller of Columbia University. It was presented at an international summit on post-materialist science, spirituality, and society.

**** The Summary Report of the International Summit on Post-Materialist Science, Spirituality and Society can be downloaded here: International Summit on Post-Materialist Science: Summary Report (PDF).

As far as spirituality is concerned, the idea that you can control your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and use them to manifest your reality, is commonplace. The existence of “Chi” or “Prana” from ancient Eastern traditions both acknowledge this non-material world. Also known to some as the “Akash” or “Aether,” or that from which all comes. The primary source of creation in these realms is non-physical forces that our senses cannot identify, but modern day scientific methods can.

“The aakaash is not destructible, it is the primordial absolute substratum that creates cosmic matter and hence the properties of aakaash are not found in the material properties that are in a sense relative. The aakaash is the eternally existent, superfluid reality, for which creation and destruction are inapplicable.”

– Paramahamsa Tewari, engineer, physicist and inventor (source)

“And they allowed Apollonius to ask questions; and he asked them of what they thought the cosmos was composed; but they replied; “Of elements.” “Are there then four?” he asked. “Not four,” said Larchas,  “but five.” “And how can there be a fifth,”said Apollonius, “alongside of water and air and earth and fire?” “There is the ether,” replied the other, “which we must regard as the stuff of which gods are made; for just as all mortal creatures inhale the wire, so do immortal and divine natures inhale the ether.” “Am I,” said Appollonius, “to regard the universe as a living creature?” “Yes,” said the other.

These concepts are now at the heart of modern day quantum physics and neuroscience. Most of our pioneering scientists were actually mystics. Take Nikola Tesla, for example. He was heavily influenced by Vedic philosphy, and had correlations with Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), who was one of the most famous and influential spiritual leaders of the philosophies of Vedanta (one of the six schools of Hindu philosophy, the term originally referred to the Upanishads, a collection of philosophical texts in Hinduism and yoga. He was the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and the founder of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. He is a giant figure in the history of the Hindu reform movements.

Yo can read more about that and how Tesla was influenced by Vedic Philosophyhere.

“No point is more central than this, that empty space is not empty. It is the seat of the most violent physics”

– John Archibald Wheeler

The Mystery of Consciousness

“I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness.”

The quote above is from Max Planck, a physicist who has been credited with originating quantum theory, which won him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918.

“It was not possible to formulate the laws of quantum mechanics in a fully consistent way without reference to consciousness.”

–  Eugene Wigner, theoretical physicist and mathematician. He received a share of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1963.

There are a number who share the same sentiment, and plenty of science showing that factors associated with consciousness do indeed have an effect on our physical material world, so much so that one wouldn’t really know where to start. This topic also branched off from the information listed above.

The quantum double slit experiment is a very popular experiment used to examine how consciousness and our physical material world are intertwined. It is a great example that documents how factors associated with consciousness and our physical material world are connected in some way.

One potential revelation of this experience is that “the observer creates the reality.” A paper published in the peer-reviewed journal Physics Essays by Dean Radin, PhD, explains how this experiment has been used multiple times to explore the role of consciousness in shaping the nature of physical reality. (source)

Then we have topics such as telepathy and psychokinesis that fit into this realm.

“Broadly speaking, although there are some differences, I think Buddhist philosophy and Quantum Mechanics can shake hands on their view of the world. We can see in these great examples the fruits of human thinking. Regardless of the admiration we feel for these great thinkers, we should not lose sight of the fact that they were human beings just as we are.”

– The Dalai Lama

Below is a discussion about consciousness, what it is, and where it is, by Deepak Chopra. There are many such discussions on this topic, and personally I don’t really think consciousness can be completely defined or understood, but I think we are close. It’s amazing to see more science examine this concept given the fact that it was spoken and written about thousands of years ago.

Super-Human Abilities

It’s fascinating to consider just how many ancient teachings tell us that humans have the capacity to gain extraordinary powers through various techniques. Some of these techniques, known as siddhis in the yoga tradition (from the Sanskrit, meaning “perfection”), include meditation, static dancing, drumming, praying, fasting, psychedelics, and more.

In Buddhism, for example, the existence of advanced powers is readily acknowledged; in fact, Buddha expected his disciples to be able to attain these abilities, but also to not become distracted by them.

A professor of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies at the University of Michigan, Donald Lopez Jr., describes the many abilities ascribed to Buddha:

With this enlightenment, he was believed to possess all manner of supernormal powers, including full knowledge of each of his own past lives and those of other beings, the ability to know others’ thoughts, the ability to create doubles of himself, the ability to rise into the air and simultaneously shoot fire and water from his body. . . . Although he passed into nirvana at the age of eighty-one, he could have lived “for an aeon or until the end of the aeon” if only he had been asked to do so. (source)

This is correlated with modern day scientific study of ‘super powers.’

Russell Targ, for instance, is a physicist and author, a pioneer in the development of the laser and laser applications, and a cofounder of the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) investigation of psychic abilities in the 1970s and 1980s. SRI is a research and development think tank in Menlo Park, California. Called remote viewing, his work in the psychic area has been published in Nature, The Proceedings of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), and the Proceedings of the American Association the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

He recently gave an interesting talk tilted “Everything I Know About ESP.”

The point here is that these phenomena are studied at the highest levels of government, and they correlate directly with ancient stories stemming from various cultures of people with ‘superhuman’ abilities.

Health and Fasting

“Humans live on one-quarter of what they eat; on the other three-quarters lives their doctor.”

– Egyptian pyramid inscription, 3800 B.C.

Fasting is a tradition that was incorporated into many ancient cultures, from ancient Vedic traditions to Buddhist traditions and more. Fasting is not to be confused with starvation; it’s the process of restrain and control from the sensorial experience of eating. Many religions and spiritual teachers have urged others to fast in order to rejuvenate their mind, body, and soul. It’s no secret that fasting is one of the, if not the, oldest health interventions known to man.

This is probably one of the best examples of modern day science catching up to ancient Eastern mysticism. Within the past couple of years, an enormous amount of research has shed light on the health benefits of fasting. Studies have shown that, if done properly, it completely reverses type two diabetes, kills cancer, regenerates stem cells, regenerates the pancreas, repairs damaged DNA, and flushes toxins from the body.  It also helps to reverse multiple age related diseases and repair the brain.

Here’s Why Half of the Life You Experience is Over by Age 7

By Ana Swanson | Washington Post

meaning-of-lifeHave you ever observed that time seems to be going by faster as you get older?

There’s a reason that one summer seems to stretch out forever when you’re a kid, but zips by before you know it when you’re 30. That reason is perspective, as a gorgeous interactive visualization, by Austrian designer Maximilian Kiener, demonstrates.

When you’re one year old, a year is literally forever to you — it’s all the time that you’ve ever known. But as you grow older, one year is a smaller and smaller fraction of your total life. It’s like watching something shrink in your rear view mirror.

This idea has stunning implications. It means that parents actually see their children grow up much faster than children perceive themselves to be.

It means that waiting 24 days for Christmas at age 5 literally feels like waiting a year at age 54. It might also explain why kids on car trips are always asking that annoying question, “Are we there yet?” A car journey actually feels longer to kids than it does to adults.

It’s a simple concept, but the feeling is explained beautifully by Kiener’s interactive. The interactive has you painstakingly scroll through each year, and experience how time seems to speed up as you “get older.”

For example, when you are one year old, a year is 100 percent of your life. As Kiener writes, this theory was first put forth by Paul Janet in 1897.

But the proportion falls sharply as you age. As you scroll through the years, you notice that each year takes significantly less time to pass by than the first. By the time you’re eight, a year is only 12.5 percent of your life.

By 18, that proportion has fallen by half again. One year is now 5.56 percent of your life. As Kiener writes, your summer vacation in your first year of college feels as long as your whole 76th year.

After 30, the proportion begins to level off, and each year of your life is similarly short. By the time you’re 35, one year is 2.86 percent of your life.

At 98, it’s about 1 percent.

Kiener attributes this idea to Paul Janet, a French philosopher. The idea is that we perceive time by comparing it with our life span: The apparent length of a period of time is proportional to our life span itself.

We perceive our first few years to be much longer in duration than the years that come later — as the graphic above this shows. If you measure your life this way, in “perceived” time rather than actual time, half of your “perceived life” is over by age 7. If you factor in the fact that you don’t remember much of your first three years, then half of your perceived life is over by the time you turn 18, Kiener writes.

In mathematical terms, our time perception is logarithmic — stretched out at the beginning and compressed at the end — rather than linear, in which each year has the same length. If you don’t know, or don’t want to think about math, it’s basically the difference between the graph on the left, which is how time proceeds according to calendars, and the graph on the right, which starts slow and then ramps up:

Light Therapy is More Effective than Prozac in Major Depression

By Michael Murray, M.D. | Doctor Murray

LightTherapy-680x380

Introduction:

Bright light therapy has a proven track record of success in the treatment of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), commonly referred to as the winter blues. A new study from the University of British Columbia shows that this simple and safe therapy is effective for non-seasonal major depression. In fact, researchers showed light therapy was much more effective than fluoxetine (Prozac).

Background Data:

During the winter months, sufferers of SAD typically feel depressed; they generally slow down, oversleep, overeat, and crave carbohydrates. In the summer, these same people feel elated, active, and energetic. Although many variables may be responsible for SAD, the lack of exposure to full-spectrum natural light appears to be the most logical explanation. The antidepressive effects of full-spectrum light therapy have been demonstrated in well-monitored, controlled studies in SAD.

The typical protocol used in clinical studies involved using specialized light boxes providing full-spectrum fluorescent tubes vs. regular tubes. Patients were then instructed to sit three feet away from the light anywhere from 30 minutes a day, up to three hours total, in morning and evening.

The antidepressant effect of light therapy is thought to be due to restoring proper melatonin synthesis and secretion by the pineal gland leading to re-establishment of the proper circadian rhythm – the normal rhythm of hormone secretion that occurs each day.

New Data:

Led by noted SAD and light therapy expert Raymond Lam, M.D., the UBC researchers randomly assigned 122 patients with major depression to either light therapy alone for 30 minutes a day; a placebo device, which did not provide full-spectrum lighting; the combination of light therapy plus fluoxetine, 20 mg a day; or the placebo device plus a placebo. Approximately 30 patients were enrolled in each of the four treatment groups.

All of the patients had a score of 20 or higher on two different standard scales of depression (HDS and MADRS) when the study started indicating significant depression. Furthermore, the duration of the current major depressive disorder episode ranged from a low of 45 weeks to 90 weeks.

Scientists Just Observed Epigenetic Memories Being Passed Down for 14 Generations

By Kalee Brown | Collective Evolution

Scientists have made some incredible new discoveries on how our minds can literally affect our biology, especially through the study of epigenetics, the branch of science that looks at how inherited changes of phenotype (appearance) or gene expression are caused by mechanisms other than changes in the underlying DNA sequence. Instead of looking at DNA as the only factor controlling our biology, scientists are also looking at what’s actually controlling the DNA, which includes our thoughts.

We receive genetic instructions from our DNA, passed down through generations, but the environment we live in can also make genetic changes. One of the more recent studies that explored this concept was conducted by a team led by scientists from the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) in Spain.

Scientists Prove How Far Environmental Genetic Changes Can Be Passed Down Through Generations

To figure out how long the environment can leave a mark on genetic expression, the scientists used genetically engineered nematode worms that carry a transgene fluorescent protein, allowing the worms to glow under ultraviolet light. They then put the worms in different temperature-controlled containers to observe how the heat and the cold affected their ability to glow.

When the worms were in the colder containers (20° Celsius), the transgene showed low activity and therefore the worms could barely glow. However, when they put the worms in a warmer container (25° Celsius), the transgene became much more active, evinced by the worms’ bright glow.  To test the worms even further, the scientists took the warm, glowing worms and put them back in the cold containers.

To their surprise, the worms continued to glow, which to the scientists meant that they retained an “environmental memory” of the warmer temperature, allowing the transgene to remain active. When the worms had offspring, that memory was actually passed on to their children for seven generations, allowing them to glow brightly despite never having experienced a warmer climate.

To further test their epigenetic capabilities, the scientists kept five generations in a warmer climate of 25° Celsius and then separated their offspring from them, putting them in colder temperatures. However, the worms still continued to have the highly active transgene for 14 generations. This study marks the longest scientists have ever witnessed the passing-down of an environmentally induced genetic change.

Weird Life Form Found Trapped Inside Huge Underground Crystals

Alexa Erickson | Collective-Evolution

Trapped inside massive crystals deep in a Mexican cave, creatures have been discovered that subsist on iron, sulfur, and other chemicals. The researchers say the microbial lifeforms are new to science but have been tucked away for tens of thousands of years.

Should the discovery be verified, it will add to evidence that “microbial life on Earth can endure harsher conditions in isolated places than scientists previously thought possible.”

“These organisms have been dormant but viable for geologically significant periods of time, and they can be released due to other geological processes,” explains NASA Astrobiology Institute director Penelope Boston.“This has profound effects on how we try to understand the evolutionary history of microbial life on this planet.”

However, such a discovery does raise concerns about our search for life beyond this planet, despite the rigorous sterilization spacecraft undergo before a mission. “How do we ensure that life-detection missions are going to detect true Mars life or life from icy worlds rather than our life?” Boston questions. “Aspects of my work illustrate the extreme toughness of life on Earth and the restrictions that places on us.”

The microbes were found inside the Cave of Crystals, which is part of the Naica mine in the northern state of Chihuahua. Upon hauling up lead and silver, which involved pumping groundwater out of the expansive underground caverns, a labyrinth of milky-white crystals  — some more than 30 feet long — were stumbled upon.

Boston was able to take samples from pockets of fluid trapped inside the crystals back in 2008 and 2009. Her team then woke the dormant microbes up in that fluid and grew cultures. It is thought that the organisms they now have growing in the lab are between 10,000 and 50,000 years old.

Though the work hasn’t gone through the peer-review process yet, which makes it difficult for other experts to weigh in on the findings, Brent Christner, a microbiologist at the University of Florida in Gainesville, says that “reviving microbes from samples of 10,000 to 50,000 years is not that outlandish based on previous reports of microbial resuscitations in geological materials hundreds of thousands to millions of years old.”

Spooky Quantum Camera Can Snap Photos of ‘Ghosts’

By Alexa Erickson | Conscious Evolution

people, alien or ghost

People have mixed opinions about ghosts. Some only think of them as the stuff of movies and books, movies and books, while others believe they can feel them, have seen them, and that they need to be recognized as real, not imaginary.

Now, a process Einstein famously referred to as “spooky” is allowing scientists to catch “ghosts” on film for the first time thanks to the use of quantum cameras. But let’s be clear: These figures aren’t wandering souls or lingering ancestors. Rather, they are the images of objects from photons that never even experienced the objects pictured.

A normal digital camera is capable of capturing objects that aren’t immediately visible to its lens. But the ghost imaging technique, which shoots an image of an object from light without light ever bouncing off the object, is the result of quantum entanglement.

Quantum entanglement refers to the quantum states of two or more objects having an instantaneous link regardless of how far separated they are.

“For example, it is possible to prepare two particles in a single quantum state such that when one is observed to be spin-up, the other one will always be observed to be spin-down and vice versa, this despite the fact that it is impossible to predict, according to quantum mechanics, which set of measurements will be observed,”notes Science Daily.

In other words, measurements executed on the same system seem to be directly influencing other systems entangled with it. The problem is, no one seems to know exactly how it works.

Quantum cameras snap ghost images by using two separate laser beams with their photons entangled. Just one beam witnesses the object pictured, yet the image can still be created no matter which beam hits the camera.

“What they’ve done is a very clever trick. In some ways it is magical,” noted quantum optics expert Paul Lett of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland. “There is not new physics here, though, but a neat demonstration of physics.”

To conduct the actual experiment, whose results were published in thejournal Nature, researchers used stencils of tiny cats and a trident etched into silicon. They passed two beams of light through the stencils at a different wavelength, and discovered that the first and second beam got entangled, but the second one didn’t hit the target, and was actually travelling on a different line.

The truly astonishing outcome was that the second light also exposed pictures of the objects when a camera was focused on it, despite the fact that it had never hit any of the objects.

Stress & Depression Early in Life Stunts Our Reward Circuits

By Elsevier | * Science Daily

Depression - child

Early life stress is a major risk factor for later episodes of depression. In fact, adults who are abused or neglected as children are almost twice as likely to experience depression.

Scientific research into this link has revealed that the increased risk following such childhood adversity is associated with sensitization of the brain circuits involved with processing threat and driving the stress response. More recently, research has begun to demonstrate that in parallel to this stress sensitization, there may also be diminished processing of reward in the brain and associated reductions in a person’s ability to experience positive emotions.

Researchers at Duke University and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio looked specifically at this second phenomenon in a longitudinal neuroimaging study of adolescents, in order to better understand how early life stress contributes to depression.

They recruited 106 adolescents, between the ages of 11-15, who underwent an initial magnetic resonance imaging scan, along with measurements of mood and neglect. The study participants then had a second brain scan two years later.

The researchers focused on the ventral striatum, a deep brain region that is important for processing rewarding experiences as well as generating positive emotions, both of which are deficient in depression.

“Our analyses revealed that over a two-year window during early to mid-adolescence, there was an abnormal decrease in the response of the ventral striatum to reward only in adolescents who had been exposed to emotional neglect, a relatively common form of childhood adversity where parents are persistently emotionally unresponsive and unavailable to their children,” explained first author Dr. Jamie Hanson.

Americans Used to Get Happier in Their Thirties. Not Any More

By Olivia Goodhill |  Quartz

Happiness

For decades, Americans struggled through angst-filled and turbulent teenage years only to become happier once they reached the full bloom of adulthood. But that link between age and happiness disappeared in 2010, according to a study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science on Nov. 5. Adolescents have become steadily happier while those in their thirties are more miserable.

The authors of the study, led by Jean Twenge, psychology professor at San Diego State University, analyzed four nationally representative surveys from the 1970s to 2014, with a total sample size of 1.32 million people, to reach their conclusions. But they can only offer theories, rather than definitive answers, as to why older people are less happy when they used to be.

One theory is that unrealistically high expectations have set adults up for disappointment. If young people are constantly told that they can achieve anything they want, then that could well boost their happiness while they are still in school and untested—but would lead to a drop in happiness for those who don’t become as high-earning or successful as they were led to expect.

Twenge expanded on her paper in an article for The Atlantic, where she wrote:

Big dreams feel great when you’re an adolescent or a young adult just starting out. But somewhere around their late 20s, most people begin to realize reality isn’t going to match up. When those dreams are more widespread than they used to be, the inevitable crash will be, too.
