Witness The Potentially Nightmarish Future of Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality future-compressed

By Joshua Krause | Activist Post

Virtual reality and augmented reality seem to be all the rage these days, even though relatively few people actually own and use these technologies. There’s a lot of media hype surrounding them, because they have plenty of potential to revolutionize our society in countless ways. It’s probably going to be the next big wave of technology to hit consumers after computers, cell phones, and the Internet.

And who can blame anyone for thinking this? Based on some of the augmented reality videos that companies like Microsoft have showcased recently, this stuff looks utterly mind-blowing.

That was pretty neat wasn’t it?

However, there is a dark side to all of the computing technologies we have at our disposal right now, and augmented reality will be no different. It’s just as likely that this technology is going to provide soul sucking, vapid escapism on a scale that we have never seen before. It’s going to blur the lines between reality and the digital world in truly disturbing ways. Visual artist Keiichi Matsuda recently produced a 6-minute short film that gives us glimpse into the freaky augmented future that’s ahead of us.

This is simply another version of the Telescreen because – although they claim to (using words like “Freedom” in a catachresis manner) – the civilized humans have not really ever come to terms with their slavery and so need a soothing method of distraction (that is likewise approved by their owners). This will work very well for that purpose.
