Dr. Wayne Dyer Passes at Age 75: The World Loses a Great Spiritual Leader

Wow, I'm in shock. Dr. Wayne Dyer has passed at the age of 75. The news from his family is that he died in his sleep last night, and the cause is unknown.

It's hard for me to believe it. Just a couple months ago,  I attended a Hay House conference that he led in Maui where he lived, and he seemed so vibrant and alive. He gave so much of himself at the event.

There were about 300 of us attending, and I believe everyone fell in love with him during the conference (or even more in love for those of us who loved him before we went). Dr. Dyer told us story after story. He was such an amazing story teller! I'm so grateful that I got an opportunity to spend those days in his presence before he moved on to the next realm.

If you're American and your interested in self-help or spirituality, you already know who Wayne Dyer is. His reach into this conscious community was unparalleled. But just in case you don't know too much about this amazing man. I've included a sweet little snippet of an interview with Oprah (above) and here's his biography:

Wayne W. Dyer was an internationally renowned author and speaker in the fields of self-development and spiritual growth. He wrote over 40 books, including 20 New York Times bestsellers, and created dozens of audio and video programs. He appeared on thousands of television and radio shows, and created special programming that raised over $250 million dollars for public television.

His books Manifest Your DestinyWisdom of the AgesThere’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, and the New York Times bestsellers 10 Secrets for Success and Inner PeaceThe Power of IntentionInspirationChange Your Thoughts—Change Your LifeExcuses Begone!Wishes Fulfilled, and I Can See Clearly Now have all been featured as National Public Television specials.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Dyer held a doctorate in educational counseling from Wayne State University and served as an associate professor at St. John’s University in New York. Through his early work in college teaching and clinical psychology, he discovered the need to make the principles of self-discovery and personal growth available to a wider audience.

His first book for general readers, Your Erroneous Zones was published in 1976. It became an international bestseller and launched his career as an author and speaker.

After publishing a string of best-selling books on the practical psychology of self-improvement, Dr. Dyer felt a shift occurring in his thinking that led him to explore the spiritual aspects of human experience. He described it like this:

“My purpose is to help people look at themselves and begin to shift their concepts. Remember, we are not our country, our race, or religion. We are eternal spirits. Seeing ourselves as spiritual beings without label is a way to transform the world and reach a sacred place for all of humanity.”

Dr. Wayne Dyer is affectionately called the “father of motivation” by his fans. Despite his childhood spent in orphanages and foster homes, Dr. Dyer overcame many obstacles to make his dreams come true. He made his home in his the island he loved, Maui, Hawaii where he enjoyed the beauty of nature, swimming with the sea creatures, and sharing good times with his children and grandchildren.

His life was a profound gift to so many. Thank you, Wayne.

Im not sad, Im happy for him. Even a bit jealous. All information will be made known to him. The man is free, pain free AND got out of here! what’s to be sad for? He came in and did what he was supposed to do. He learned so much from him. I don’t get it. You guys ought to know better. Death is a transition. The body is gone, he’s not. Please. Im surprised.
