I don’t know about you, but I LOVE a good “to do” list. Being able to write stuff down, complete them, and then cross them off can be quite rewarding. But, I realize that sometimes when I’m that focused, I lose my peripheral vision and miss out on all the important things that are happening around me.

On the other side of the spectrum, I have moments (or even days) when I can get so lost in the moment that I’m enjoying every moment and feeling like a kid again. At these times, though, it often seems like I can’t complete the simplest tasks and I start to “get behind.”

All of us to navigate these two polar energies in our daily life, especially if we want to use our lives to serve others. In this video – the third in a video series of little lessons I learned while hiking Cathedral Rock in Sedona, Arizona, I share why it’s important to balance these two sides of ourselves.

It’s a tricky thing to balance our in-the-moment self with our goal-oriented self. The part of us that wants to experience and connect with our surroundings represents our feminine nature, and the part of us that wants to conquer and divide, or in other words, reach those goals, represents our masculine side.

Both are needed for a well-rounded life.

The key to balancing these two is very simple and two-fold. First you need to realize what your natural tendency is – are you more masculine, goal-oriented or more feminine in-the-moment? And second, you simply need to pay more attention to the weaker side for about 30 days.

In fact, schedule in some activities – goal-oriented ones or completely playful, unfocused ones, depending on what you need.

One of my mentors, Tony Robbins talks a lot about balancing these two sides for true happiness. He calls it balancing the science of success (the masculine) with the art of fulfillment (the feminine).

My wish for you is that you have both success and fulfilled.
