Do Violent Video Games Destroy Human Empathy?

Posted by on February 20, 2014 in Conscious Evolution, Conscious Living with 2 Comments

Overexposure to violent video games decreases empathy towards others and blurs one’s sense of what is right and wrong, according to a recent study at Brock University. The results of the study showed that this was not the case for casual gamers, but that it mainly held up for teenagers who play violent video games for an excessive amount of hours per day. Lissette Padilla and Elliot Hill discuss how moderation can prevent these negative effects, in this clip from the Lip News.

Drone Report: US Must Account for ‘Turning Wedding Into a Funeral’

A U.S. drone strike on a recent wedding procession in Yemen — that left 12 people dead and at least 15 wounded — raises serious doubts about the Obama administration’s claim that so-called targeted killings do not harm civilians, charged Human Rights Watch in a report released Thursday. Entitled A Wedding That Became a Funeral: US Drone Attack on Marriage Procession in Yemen, the 28-page report demands that the U.S. government investigate the incident and publicly account for any slaughter of civilians or violation of international law.

29 Percent Of All U.S. Adults Under The Age Of 35 Are Living With Their Parents

According to a stunning Gallup survey that was recently released, nearly three out of every ten adults in the United States under the age of 35 are still living at home with Mom and Dad. This closely lines up with a Pew Research Center analysis of Census data that looked at a younger sample of Americans which found that 36 percent of Americans 18 to 31 years old were still living with their parents. That was the highest level that had ever been recorded.

FCC Plan To Monitor News Coverage – A ‘Radical New Era Of Tyranny’

Posted by on February 20, 2014 in Government, Politics, Spying and Surveillance with 0 Comments

The FCC has a plan in the works to place agents in U.S. newsrooms, supposedly to learn all about how editorial decisions are made. As if illegal seizures of Associated Press phone records and the shadowy tailing of the mother of a Fox News reporter weren’t menacing enough, the Obama administration is going out of its way to institute a new intrusive surveillance of the press, as if the press wasn’t supine enough.

‘I am a Ukrainian’ Video Exposed As Kony-Style Scam

Posted by on February 20, 2014 in Politics with 0 Comments

The ‘I am a Ukrainian’ video is meant to push the idea that the Ukrainian revolt is grass roots, but the video’s origins can be traced back to the U.S. State Department. The clip was produced by the team behind A Whisper to a Roar, a documentary about the “fight for democracy” all over the world, which was funded by Prince Moulay Hicham of Morocco. The “inspiration” behind the documentary was none other than Larry Diamond, a Council on Foreign Relations member. The Council on Foreign Relations is considered to be America’s “most influential foreign-policy think tank” and has deep connections with the U.S. State Department.

A new study suggests the household pets can see things that are invisible to humans. A house cat’s bizarre antics may be more than just feline folly. The kitty may be seeing things that human eyes can’t. Unlike humans, many animals see in ultraviolet, and a study now suggests that cats, dogs and other mammals can, too. Knowing these animals see things invisible to humans could shed some light on the animals’ behavior, the researchers say. Read more: Cats and Dogs May See in Ultraviolet

‘Citizens Won Today’: Judge Strikes Down Nebraska’s Keystone XL OK

In a victory for opponents of the Keystone XL, a local judge on Wednesday struck down a law that would allow the tar sands pipeline to pass through Nebraska, the Associated Press is reporting. Republican Gov. Dave Heineman approved TransCanada’s pipeline over a year ago, but in a ruling today Lancaster County Judge Stephanie Stacy states that Nebraska’s Legislative Bill 1161, which allowed for pipeline companies to go around the state’s Public Service Commission to get approval, is unconstitutional, and therefore the governor’s action was “predicated on an unconstitutional statute” and as such is null and void.

Below you will find 10 signs that we have now entered the world depicted in fiction.

The Mammoth Asteroid Set To Fly By Earth Last Night Just Disappeared

Last night, a giant asteroid was supposed to streak by the Earth, close enough for us to catch a glimpse as it zipped by. Except it never showed, and now astronomers say they have no idea just where the 900-foot asteroid has gone. So, just how does one misplace an asteroid the size of three football fields? The most likely explanation is that its orbit was miscalculated.

The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is now operational and delivering solar electricity. At full capacity, the system produces a gross total of 392 megawatts (MW) of solar power, enough electricity to provide 140,000 homes with clean energy. Scientists at Stanford University have recently improved the efficiency of a revolutionary solar cell by around 100 times.
