HSUS: Forty one dogs were removed from a Berry, Ala., property after authorities charged four people with 80 counts of animal cruelty. The 24th Circuit Drug Task Force called in The Humane Society of the United States to assist in the rescue and removal the animals.

This rescue is part of a case The HSUS has been involved with since October 2013. An additional 65 dogs were previously removed from the property and have been receiving veterinary care.

Chief Agent Richard White served a seizure warrant on the property and found that the animals were being housed in deplorable living conditions. Numerous animals were living outside with no access to shelter. Many of the animals were living in feces and filth and did not have access to clean water.

Mindy Gilbert, Alabama state director for The HSUS said: “I'm so relieved these dogs can now receive the care that they've desperately needed for some time now. Our efforts, alongside those of the 24th Circuit Drug Task Force, have ensured that these dogs won't live in these deplorable conditions anymore.”

The HSUS' Animal Rescue Team has removed the dogs from the property pending the final disposition of this case. The animals will be thoroughly examined by a team of veterinarians at an undisclosed location and will receive any necessary immediate medical treatment.
