Do These 4 Things Everyday to Become Calmer

Today, we are always looking to get things done as fast as we can, we stress out, we pound our steering wheel in frustration, and typically are just very angry people. Not everyone is like this, not at all! In fact, there are people who are calm… yes, calm. These wondrous people handle everyday stresses that send most howling with rage with quiet confidence and acceptance. If you have ever had the time to befriend a member of this rare species, you’ll find a few common traits that we can all learn from.

1. Take Care Of Yourself

Most of us put junk into our body, from soda to fried, greasy foods, and when we put junk in, our product is junk. The people who are calm have a tendency to take care of themselves and their space. This means from their home to the office, they are more organized, neat, and generally more put together. There still is hope for the rest of us though – eat a healthier diet and clean up the house a bit. When we are more organized, we can find what we need and know where it is without stressing out.

2. Make A Routine

While many say that creating a routine is bad, it really isn’t when you consider all the benefits it can give you. Not only is your mind mentally able to go through tasks without much thought, you also know how much time you need. In the mornings, if you can create a routine that you can follow, it can make your day flow much easier. Since you already have a plan of what you need to do, try to make a pattern out of your daily task, and don’t forget to factor in time for yourself!

3. Take A Technology Detox

Before you balk at this, take it into consideration. We spend a good percentage of our days in front of some sort of technology. When it comes time to relax, we read on our phones, tablets or watching a screen. Instead, take note from those who are calmer, limit the amount of time you spend in front of a screen. Read a paper book, go for a walk, socialize with your friends in person (whoa!) or even interact with your real-life animals, not your Sims.

4. Expect the Worse

They say that when you are more prepared for the worst to happen, it tends to avoid you. There is actually a law for it, Murphy’s Law. While its validity has yet to be tested, it is certainly something to think of. When you are prepared for your day to go badly, you are mentally warming up your body to take the battering and hurdles you will be jumping that day. When you make it to the end, you’ll feel more accomplished, and more satisfied with your day.

While becoming a calmer person is more of a perspective change, there are always things we can do to prevent ourselves from getting overly moody through the day. Next time you feel yourself being overwhelmed, angry, or just plain unmotivated, go for a walk, read a book, anything to take your mind out of its current situation. Knowing how to control your emotions is key to staying calm, no matter what the situation is.
