“It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” — Tony Robbins
What is Destiny?
Destiny — the hidden power to control our very existence, our reason for coming to this planet right here, right now. When you hear the word ‘destiny' does it send shivers of excitement or panic down your spine?
Let's take excitement first.
If you feel elated at the thought of being on that illustrious path, skipping and hopping towards your ‘treasure' — you're probably really enjoying your life at the moment. You're most likely:
- Following the breadcrumbs that synchronicity is leaving you (read related articles: Why Synchronicity Can Change Your Life and How Weird, Little Synchronicities Can Actually Be the Bomb!),
- Finding joy in the moment — you know that old saying about the journey being more pleasurable than the destination, right? “Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.” — Greg Anderson
- Lapping up all the little gems that life is throwing at you whilst you unravel your heart's purpose,
- Realizing that life is going to place all sorts of hurdles at your feet but you know you're going to overcome anything it throws at you.
Being ‘on path' doesn't necessarily guarantee that you're going to be ‘zenning' it all the way. Being spiritual is knowing how to navigate the bad along with the good (or whatever you are perceiving as being negative or positive).
The Universe has a system of testing us every step of the way. I think it's trying to show us all sorts of things from our shadow self to evaluating our resolve and past lesson integrations. The trick is not to give up. It's always darkest just before dawn and all that cheesy-but-true anecdotal stuff.
But let's look at the other side of the coin…the people who are afraid of their destiny. The ones who never answer the calling or try to block it out whenever they hear the whisper of adventure beckoning.
The Fear of Failure
The one thing that blocks many people from living their purpose is the fear that they may fail. It's as simple as that. Why though?
Because it's much easier to sit in complacency than it is to venture out into a field of uncertainty.
Unfortunately (or fortunately — depending on what side of the coin you're looking at), your treasure is sitting just outside of your comfort zone.
It all really boils down to your character. Are you content with run-of-the-mill or does your soul tingle at the thought of doing something courageous, inventive, different and brave?

The Question Most People Can't Live With…
If you leave your stuffy day job at a firm that is slowly killing your will to exist to backpack around the world and take in an adventure of a lifetime — your destiny has won.
If you decide that it's not worth the flack you're going to get from your parents and friends for such a bold and outrageous move (especially giving up a good paying job to do some hippy quest) then…well…you've just sealed your fate.
If you stick with the path of the latter, you may indeed have a good life. You may marry, have kids, do the whole white-picket fence thing and have many happy years but there is always going to be that niggling doubt. ‘What if?'
So, here's the ultimate question. Can you live with a ‘what if?'?
“Do it no matter what. If you believe in it, it is something very honorable. If somebody around you or your family does not understand it, then that's their problem. But if you do have a passion, an honest passion, just do it.” — Mario Andretti
