On September 8, 2015, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called on the US to start accepting more refugees from war-torn countries in the Middle East:

“We should take our fair share. We are good people. I don’t think the average American has any idea what it’s like to live in the Mideast right now. If I’m president, it’s not about accepting refugees, it’s about destroying the reason they leave. It’s about sending them back to Syria with hope. It’s about destroying a radical Islamic movement that would destroy everybody in this room.

“I don’t see how we can lead the free world and turn our back when people are seeking it. We should take the Statue of Liberty and tear it down if this is our response as a nation. Just tear it down, because we don’t need it anymore.

“I don’t know how many we should take, I don’t know how much we should spend, but I know we should take our fair share and we need to spend more to get ahead of this.”

Two days later, the White House announced that it would accept at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the new fiscal year starting October 1, 2015. Since the uprising began five years ago, only 2,647 Syrian refugees have been resettled in the United States, roughly 0.06% of the more than 4.5 million who have fled from the country.

Should the United States turn its backs on refugees even when much poorer and much smaller countries are bearing the biggest burden of the Syrian crisis? During Vietnam, America welcomed 190,000 Vietnamese. During the Balkans conflict, the country accepted 180,000 people. Compared to what it has done in the past, the United States isn’t living up to its own historic standards.

In Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ words:

“What terrorism is about is trying to instill terror and fear into the hearts of people. And we will not let that happen. We will not be terrorized or live in fear. During these difficult times, we will not succumb to Islamophobia. We will not turn our backs on the refugees who are fleeing Syria and Afghanistan. We will do what we do best and that is – be Americans – fighting racism, fighting xenophobia, fighting fear.”

theUS should be helping disenfranchised Native Americans, and their own homeless, before accepting and helping refugees from wars America started

Fuck no. Why can 1 million Isis fighters displace 5 million “peaceful” Muslims? 5 to 1 odds are pretty good if someone pulls a home invasion. Why are these “refugees” not fighting back? I would defend my home and country unquestionably.
They are all coming here to wipe us out

  4. grannyzef@gmail.com' zef rose says:

    This is so ridiculous!
We have an open spigot and a plugged drain and the water is overflowing the sink.
And what are we doing? Running around looking for towels to soak up the water and buckets to bail it out.
Meanwhile nobody has even suggested turning off the spigot!

Not when we have homeless vets and children. Great idea. Don’t help the situation come to fruition and use their resources to fix it while your there. Everyone needs to be humbled. Hatred stems from lack of self-thought. In their shoes could you walk their life? No. Easy to watch though as breaking news. Pretty sad life people call enjoyable. Breaks the soul. Ones who need help don’t ask, the ones that have a hair out of place cry.

The world doesnt care about us anymore. The problems start with them.. Those vets are the reason why there so much refugees.

    • 918194288295985@facebook.com' Jeremy Schoen says:

Governments are the reason. The vets, as in any country, are doing their job employed by governments. They give you hate targets instead of focusing on their bs

IT s tragic that americans started a war for obvious reasons…like money …or gas…and Europe is under the pressure of refugees and of terrorists attacks…

How about we quit causing the crisis in other countrys. And leave them alone!Safe zones make a hell of alot more sense, than bringing them all here. Most are men,and should be fighting for their country, not fleeing. We cant even take care of our own homeless, and veterans. So we should take care of theirs? NOT!WAKE UP!

  14. blemieux@rocketmail.com' BOB LEMIEUX says:

HELL NO! Wanting to keep my country free of the Islamic Nazis doesn’t make me a racist. You can’t ‘vet’ these people – you can’t know what’s in their heart. A small percentage of them want to do us harm and a large percentage of them will not assimilate and become Americans.
Give them food and shelter in refugee camps in the middle east – they would rather be there anyway. They can practice Shira Law and chant convert or die over there ’till the cows come home.

Beginning in 2002, I worked at one of the largest banks in the World. I watched my company steal 605 million Dollars from chumps like me and you. They broke federal law, to steal the LOOT, they used it to pay for their ENRON bill. The Mob does not have the BALLS to Steal to pay for their Criminal Activities. Once I started to look into my company, I discovered “The Business Plot” and that the also were within the “Robber Barons” as well. I quite THAT company, after watching them set up the mortgage scam. They even built in a Boogie Man to Blame and take the fall. I attempted to blow the whistle, after a few months I realized that I was endangering my families life. The real Terrorist are on WALL STREET.

Historically war refugees were women and children who couldn’t fight for their home land, but this tells a different story.

More men of fighting age are deserting their own women, children and families to flee.

Doesn’t speak too strongly about their characters, does it.

Women and children, yes most definitely. But…
