6 Advantages Of Organic Foods

1. Organic Foods Are Free Of Toxic Chemicals

All organic foods are produced using organic/natural methods.  Organic farmers do not use chemical herbicides, fertilizers, nor pesticides when growing their crops or rearing their animals. No growth hormones or other genetically modified material is used in organic farming.  With no chemicals used, the foods are free of the same, making them safer and healthier when compared to conventionally produced foods. Shopping the organic market is guaranteed to be better for your health.

2. They Are Nutrient-Rich

With no growth accelerants or toxic compounds used in the growing process, organic foods get to grow and mature naturally. This fact alone leaves them more nutritious and nutrient-dense as compared to foods grown in controlled environments. That said, organic poultry, organic fish, organic meal, and organic milk have a higher nutritional density hence a healthier option for all.  Allowing the crops and animals to grow naturally, and in natural conditions facilitates improved nutrient structure and density.  Organically farmed veggies are thus rich in full-spectrum vitamins and minerals, hence good for your health.

3. Organic Foods are GMO-free

Organic foods aren’t genetically engineered in any way. This means their DNA structure is unaltered in any way. This is unlike GMO foods that have been modified genetically to make them grow faster and even resist various pests and diseases.  While the dangers of GMO foods is still inconclusive, many health experts still recommend organic foods over the GMO ones.  Some researchers even believe GMOs are the reason for various health conditions recorded today, including gastrointestinal disorders, internal organ damage, slowed brain development and growth, and thickened digestive tract.  These conditions are apparent with individuals that depend too much on GMOs.  Sticking to organic foods means you have a stronger immune response and healthier body organs.

 4. Environmental Safety

While you may know this already, organic foods are grown in a natural setting with no chemicals used. Organic farmers can only use compost or organic manure to enrich the soil, and other environmentally-friendly practices (such as crop rotation) to prevent/manage pest infestation. This thus makes this form of farming the best for the environment. The fact that no chemicals are used means water sources, the soil, and even the air remains clean and unpolluted.  Organic farming also helps reduce a farmer’s carbon footprint farther, with these plants helping purify the air around.

5. You Are Assured Of Fresh. Tasty, And Nutritious Food

The production, preparation, and processing of organic food products is governed by strict standards that help ensure no contaminants (chemicals) come into contact with the end product. Thanks to the strict guidelines, consumers can be assured of a fresh and flavorful meal each time. It is also worth noting that no artificial preservatives are used on these foods. This is one of the reasons why fresh organic foods don’t have such a long shelf life as some genetically modified varieties may have. Additionally, organic foods are mainly sold close to where they are produced locally to ensure they are served fresh.

6. Reduced Chance Of Food-Related Illnesses

Reports of food-borne illnesses have been on the increase over the recent past. The vast majority of these cases have been reported in fast food restaurants, with spinach, eggs, peanut butter, and melons topping the list of culprits. Some animals too have been reported sick from the vaccines and chemicals used to accelerate their growth rates.  This, however, isn’t an issue with organic foods. Organic foods have a minimal chance of contamination, hence much safer for everyone.
