Retrograde Jupiter moves back to the air sign of Gemini on December 5, 2025. Saturn is now moving in direct motion this month, having been retrograde since July. Four major planets, Mars, Sun, Venus, and Mercury, transit the pivotal gandanta degrees in December. The winter solstice occurs on December 21, 2025. These events make December a month of profound self-examination, transformation, and renewal.
Saturn, planet of disciple and focus, is now in direct motion since November 27, 2025, having been retrograde since July 12, 2025. In December Saturn will only transit 0 to 1 degree Pisces, as it slowly begins to move forward. We may find that any delays or plans put on hold during the retrograde phase can begin to move ahead with focus and commitment. With Saturn direct we begin to set long-term realistic plans and take on greater responsibilities.
Jupiter, the great benefic planet, retrogrades back to the sign of Gemini on December 5, 2025, having been in the sign of Cancer since October 18. Jupiter remains retrograde in Gemini until March 10, 2026, when it goes direct. As Jupiter rules prosperity, ethics, our spiritual life, and faith, while retrograde it is a time of questioning our inner beliefs and determine if they reflect our truth. Personally, we may not be as concerned with the material aspects of life, and instead become more focused on creating greater peace of mind and finding our true center. We may experience deeper understandings of what true faith is. We place more value now on expanding our inner life, which makes our personal practices, like meditation and contemplation, more significant and powerful.
Four major planets, Mars, Sun, Venus, and Mercury, travel the pivotal gandanta degrees, the junction between the signs of Scorpio (water sign) and Sagittarius (fire sign) in December. This means December is an especially significant month of introspection, letting go, renewal or rebirth. Gandanta means a “spiritual knot,” and when a planet passes through the cusp of a water sign to a fire sign, we are given opportunities for deeper soul growth and increased self-awareness. As we go through deep change, we may feel emptiness or even doubt as we dismantle the old ways. It is suggested to work with these transits with grace, non-resistance, and an open heart. Our attention may shift from a more materialistic point of view to a higher, global consciousness.
Mars, planet of action and courage, is the first planet to transit through the water sign of Scorpio and enters the fire sign of Sagittarius. Mars has been especially strong in its own sign of Scorpio. Mars travels the gandanta degrees (27 to 29 degrees Scorpio and 0 to 2 degrees Sagittarius) from December 3 to 10, 2025. This is a period to be extra careful with amplified frustrations and quick responses. Work with the higher energies of Mars, and be disciplined, courageous, and less reactive to any challenges that surface as we let go of any old forceful energies we have used in the past. This is a transitional time to work in harmony with others, even if you have different points of view.
Next the Sun makes its yearly transit through the end of Scorpio and then enters Sagittarius, traveling the gandanta degrees from December 13 to 18, 2025. This transit of the Sun (indicator of the soul) can bring an identity crisis, as we break through long-held patterns and fears. We are to embrace a new and more authentic way of being. Career issues could also surface as we prefer uplifting work that honors our greatest talents and gifts.
Venus, planet of relationships and healing, next transits the gandanta degrees of Scorpio/Sagittarius from December 17 to 22, 2025, pushes us to resolve and heal challenging relationships and beliefs about love. We may find that compassion, forgiveness and authenticity are required to evolve as we re-define what love is.
Next Mercury, planet of communications and the intellect, transits these same gandanta degrees from December 26 to December 30, 2025. This is a time to be mindful with your words and have good boundaries and use discernment. Mercury transiting gandanta degrees may be a positive period for meditation and inner reflection. As Mercury moves into the Jupiter-ruled sign of Sagittarius, the focus is on new ideas, education, and expanding the mind.
December 21, 2025 at 8:03 AM MST is the winter solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. Many cultures see this time of the year as symbolic of spiritual rebirth and transformation. It is an exceptional day for meditation, prayer and self-examination. Connect with family and friends and express your generosity and gratitude. Take some quiet time to set meaningful intentions for the coming new year.
Summary
December 2025 is a month of profound introspection, renewal, and inner transformation. With Saturn turning direct, Jupiter retrograding into Gemini, and four major planets—Mars, Sun, Venus, and Mercury—crossing the spiritually charged gandanta degrees, this period invites deep questioning of beliefs, release of old patterns, and the birth of new clarity. The winter solstice further amplifies themes of spiritual rebirth, encouraging meditation, gratitude, and intentional preparation for the coming year.
