Sex is a big decision no matter your age, and you need to approach it with a lot of care. Anytime you have sex, you need to ensure that it’s safe, and there are various ways in which you can practice safe sex, no matter your sexual orientation. When you want to practice safe sex, the first thing you need to know is that you’re caring for both yourself and your partner. Here are the most effective ways which you can use to practice safe sex.

Barrier Methods

The first way you can use it when you want to practice safe sex is by barrier methods. And the most commonly used method when you want to practice this form of sex is using a condom. This is the type of sex where you don’t allow the exchange of body fluids during the act. Condoms can either be female condoms or male condoms – these are the most common. A male condom is worn on the penis while the female one is placed inside the vagina canal. There are other barriers such as dental dams – these can be used for anal or oral sex.

Non-Penetrative Sex

There are other sexual activities that you can do that aren’t penetrative. They are sexual and can give sexual satisfaction but aren’t penetrative. These are hand jobs, making out, and even fingering. All these acts limit fluid exchange between partners and lessen the chances of any sexually transmitted disease. There are some skin-to-skin contact STIs that these acts don’t protect you from. These STIs include herpes and syphilis.

If you want to reduce your chances of contracting HIV, you need to take medication. Look, I don’t know if there is std testing near me, but I’ll be checking myself on a regular basis when I start getting careless and not practicing safe sex. In this situation, the medication you use in this case is known as PrEP – pre-exposure prophylaxis. And the medication will help reduce the chances of contracting HIV. You need to only take the medication under the clear guidelines of a health professional. You need to take the drugs when you know your partner is HIV positive, though one aspect about the drug is that it only prevents HIV infection, not other STIs.

Some STIs can be prevented by immunization. One that you need to take immunization against is hepatitis B and HPV, but you need to be a licensed clinician to advise on which one to take.

Limiting Sexual Partners

A part that isn’t talked about much when it comes to safe sex practice is limiting the number of partners. This is quite crucial as if you have a few, the chance of infection can be reduced. It’s also easy to keep up with your partners’ health if they are a few. When you have many partners, it means you don’t stick to a few, and your chances of contracting STIs are raised. When you have plenty of sexual partners, you need to ensure you practice the above-listed safe sex ideas.

Sex can be enjoyable when you play it safe as you’ll have less to worry about when you know you are safe. These are some effective ways you can use to ensure you only engage in safe sex practices.
