In my last 2 blogs, I looked at creating opportunity and not giving in to disappointment along the way. You can read those here: How to Create Opportunity and How to Turn Disappointment into Opportunity.
Today I'd like to venture into the imperatively important avenue of communication. Yeah, a bit of the digital stuff but much, much more of the physical stuff (yip, face to face contact!).
“Be an authentic listener as well as a talker.”
Nothing brings about MORE success than actually communicating your ideas, goals and dreams — to the right people.
How Do You Identify the ‘Right' People?
Simple. This is how I do it:
- Know Your Tribe — I know gut-instinct style (read related article: Balance Your Solar Plexus Chakra With This F-Word & Transform Your Life) who my tribe are and who will support me. You've got to get real about the people in your life who are supportive and the ones who are the fair-weather variety. We all have a bit of both and that's perfectly normal — it's your job to filter out who you confide in though. I prefer to keep my cards close to my chest when venturing into the new and unknown and only ask the advice and support of my legit, trusted tribe when divulging my dreams and desires. You'll know who they are 'cause they'll be only to eager to help you in any way they can (which offers a plethora of scope). Those are the keepers, folks!
- Recognize Opportunity — When you're out and about, whether it's a social you've been invited to or just down at the local coffee shop a-squandering, seize any synchronicity that comes your way. However, you don't want to be going on and on about yourself, no, that's not what I'm talking about — that's a sure-fire way to alienate yourself from friends and fellow human beings. Here's an example: You're sitting having a coffee with a friend and they mention that they know someone who just successfully launched a new blog. You haven't told your friend but that's exactly what you're thinking of doing. You tell your friend and he puts you in contact with said acquaintance who ends up helping you exponentially to launch your idea. That's the kind of meaningful coincidence I'm talking about. Too many people let chances like this walk away without opening their mouths. Opportunities like this happen all the time and it's your job to pounce on them.
- Good Old Forums — If you've got no-one to bounce your ideas off in the form of a tribe — go find an online tribe. Their are loads of like-minded people in thousands of forums worldwide. Go be interactive. Offer advice and support where you can and be open to receiving advice and support.
- Don't Be Shy, Speak Up — I was born clutching the back of my mothers skirt. I was as shy as mouse at a cat convention but I learned to overcome it. How? Well, if I didn't go for what I wanted, I didn't get what I wanted. There's nothing more motivational than that, surely? Nothing is holding you back but YOU. I realized that, thank God, and soldiered on with my life. Success lies just outside of your comfort zone and communication is the key to success. Life can be a real bitch when you're shy, right? So choose to be confident. Read related article: Free Yourself From Creative Complacency Today!
If you learn how to effectively communicate with other peeps, a world of opportunity will open up to you. Success was never achieved in a damp, dark cave. We need each other to be truly successful. Just remember, be an authentic listener as well as a talker.
