ICJ to decide on emergency measures in Israel-Gaza genocide case on Friday

During recent hearings at The International Court of Justice (aka the World Court) in the Netherlands, South Africa alleged that Israel was committing genocide on the citizens of Palestine and urged the court to order an emergency suspension of Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
South Africa’s Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor argued that provisional measures are necessary “to protect against further, severe and irreparable harm to the rights of the Palestinian people under the Genocide Convention, which continue to be violated with impunity”.
South Africa filed nine injunctions with the court. In addition to directing Israel to suspend all military operations in Gaza, South Africa asked for a separate injunction that would compel Israel to facilitate and not impede the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The World Court is set to announce on January 26 if it will enact any or all of the measures requested by South Africa.
