Venus, planet of relationships and finance, travels its debilitated sign of Virgo the entire month of August. Mars, planet of action, begins its transit through Gemini on August 2 and eventually aspects Pluto in Capricorn mid-month. The Sun powerfully travels through its own sign of Leo beginning August 16.
Venus in Virgo
Venus, planet of relationships, love, nature, and finance, begins its transit through its debilitated sign of Virgo the whole month of August, from August 1 to September 2, 2026. In addition, Venus will be opposed by Saturn in Pisces and aspected by Mars in Pisces.
Venus transiting the earth sign of Virgo emphasizes the natural world and protection of the environment. Venus is also a financial planet, so, while in Virgo, it’s a time to be practical and moderate with finances and spending. Virgo is a service-oriented sign, so this is a positive time to donate time to worthy causes.
Relationships and Emotional Fulfillment
In matters of the heart, Venus in Virgo is kind but wants perfection, so watch being overly critical to those close to you. With Saturn and Mars aspects to Venus, we feel a push/pull energy with relationships, and emotional fulfillment may be harder to find. Expressing compassion and patience with others are positive remedies.
Mars in Gemini
Mars, planet of action and assertiveness, begins its transit through the Mercury-ruled sign of Gemini from August 2 to September 17, 2026. While Mars is in Gemini, we need to watch our words and not be argumentative. On the positive side, we put our thoughts into action and are quick-thinking.
Mars Aspects Pluto
On August 16 and 17, Mars in Gemini will aspect Pluto in Capricorn, by 8th house aspect, exactly at 9 degrees. Mars/Pluto energies can be obsessive, forceful, and possibly ruthless. This is a period to practice neutrality and not over-react.
The Total Solar Eclipse
On August 12, 2026, we experience a total solar eclipse, new moon, at 25 degrees Cancer at 10:37 AM PDT. This eclipse is in the nakshatra of Ashlesha, which means “the embracing” or “the entwiner,” and the symbol is a coiled snake.
The Hindu deities associated with this nakshatra are the Nagas, or the deified serpents, and so Ashlesha is sometimes associated with kundalini energy, deep transformation, and shamanic practices.
The Power of Ashlesha
The energy of Ashlesha is “the power to poison,” and it carries a certain charismatic, mesmerizing, or even manipulating effect. There is also a hidden aspect to this nakshatra, making this a good time to bravely delve deeply into our own psyche in order to heal.
Issues about honesty, discernment, and secrets can surface with this eclipse. Gratitude and generosity are helpful remedies.
Eclipses as Catalysts
Eclipses are catalysts for change, and they can bring significant events into one’s life, especially if the eclipse is near your Moon, Ascendant, or Sun. Eclipses can reveal truths and break down barriers, helping us to grow.
In Vedic culture, eclipses are days for spiritual life and inner work, such as meditation, retreat, and introspection. Traditionally, they are not auspicious days for material activities, such as business or financial dealings, as we may not see clearly, or unexpected issues can surface.
The Sun Enters Leo
Mid-August, the Sun makes its powerful yearly transit through its own sign of Leo from August 16 to September 16, 2026. As the Sun shifts signs from Cancer to Leo, it travels through the gandanta degrees of 29 Cancer to 0 Leo from August 15 to 18.
During these few days, as the Sun travels the cusp of Cancer/Leo, it’s a possible time of healing if we let go of any control issues and connect to our authentic self.
Creativity and Authenticity
As the Sun fully enters the sign of Leo, we may feel greater creativity, generosity, and warm-heartedness, the higher qualities of Leo. We are asked to connect to our true identity, work with integrity, and practice equanimity.
On the shadow-side, issues around power and authority are possible themes with the Sun transiting Leo. The Sun in the fixed fire sign may also indicate increasing heat waves and fires.
The Sun Conjuncts Ketu
On August 22, the Sun exactly conjuncts the south node Ketu at 5 degrees Leo. Sun/Ketu energies can increase our spiritual desires and intuition, or we may feel invisible or not acknowledged.
The Lunar Eclipse
The final eclipse of the year is a lunar eclipse, full moon, that occurs on August 27 or 28, depending on your time zone. If on PDT, this eclipse is the evening of August 27 at 9:18 PM. If on EDT, then the eclipse occurs very early the morning of August 28 at 12:18 AM.
This lunar eclipse is at 10 degrees Aquarius in the mystical nakshatra of Shatabhishak. This nakshatra is ruled by the deity Varuna, Lord of the Oceans, who is connected to cosmic law and order.
The Power of Healing
The shakti of Shatabhishak is “the power of healing,” with an emphasis on health concerns, the medical industry, and alternative healing modalities. Water concerns and changing weather patterns can be a focus, as the deity Varuna is the Lord of the Oceans.
With this eclipse in Aquarius, a community and globally-oriented sign, meditations and prayers dedicated to world peace and healing are positive expressions.
Clear Communication and Discernment
In addition, Mercury is transiting very close to the Sun and is combust during this eclipse, weakening it, so be especially clear and discerning with all types of communications. This is a good time to calm the mind with meditation and introspective practices.
