There are so many creative ways to keep your brain alert and active, and playing games is a great way to excise the brain! Strategy games, board games, and even videogames have proven to be effective mediums for exercising the brain. Due to the the nature of brain games, these apps can truly keep your brain sharp through continuous levels that get more difficult as you progress.

Think about a game like chess. It’s set in a simple format with tons of variation. There are only set moves, and only certain pieces can move in very specific ways. This limited set makes an almost endless potential for situations. This active thought game gives the brain a great excise in reaction to changing situations. It’s accessible for people of all ages, so you can play it with anyone. These types of games tend to stick out when it comes to games that are good for the brain.

Talking is a great way to keep the mind sharp as well. Talking to your loved ones will help you when it comes to keeping youR memory sharp. Being involved in their lives means you will get a constant influx of information that’s very important to remember. That means you will be able to practice your associated thinking. Being able to associate specific memories to specific people is a great way to keep your mind sharp.

This is also a great practice if your loved one suffers from dementia or another memory-based issue. You can achieve the exact same effect of brain exercise for your loved one by keeping the questions very direct and simple. Do your best to be patient with your loved one, and try not to stack questions when you are talking with them. Too many questions too fast can lead to aggression and agitation. Take it slow, but make sure they give you the answer instead of you leading them to it. Remember, brain health is important at all stages of life!

Listen to Music

Music is a great way to exercise the brain. Believe it or not, listening to music can improve your brain function. The complexity of the music is a great exercise for your brain, especially classical music. The layers of different instruments creating a symphony of sound together give the brain a lot to focus on. That’s the reason you can listen to a song a million times and still find something new about it on the next listen.

The layers of music are similar to mathematical equations, and focusing on different parts of the music create different chemicals in the brain. It’s really amazing what music can do to make your brain activity spike.

There are even types of music and frequencies that can activate specific parts of the brain. This isn’t just a crazy ploy from a music lover, there are actually places that provide music therapy as a form of brain treatment.
