Are Calisthenics Useful in Staying Fit?

Have you noticed how some celebrities do exercises using only their own body weight as part of their exercise regimen? It is a highly beneficial method of exercising. Such a form of exercise is known as the calisthenics workout.

This form of workout started somewhere in the mid 19th and 20th century. Recently, the workout form is gaining popularity due to its various benefits. In order to know about the benefits, it is crucial to know about the workout form a bit.

What is Calisthenics?

Calisthenics do not require any kind of equipment. In fact, you have to use your own bodyweight for the workout. There are several types of such workouts that you can perform. Some of the types are:

  • Jumping jacks
  • Lunges
  • Planks
  • Pull-ups and push-ups
  • Sit-ups
  • Trunk twists, and so on.

Benefits of Calisthenics

There are several benefits that celebrities and many fitness experts talk about regarding this form or workout. Here are some of the eminent ones:

  • For a Flexible Body:

If you are looking forward to having a flexible body, you should definitely try out doing calisthenics. A combination of different movements and exercises helps in making your muscles relax and making you more flexible. If you continue the workouts for a longer time, you will soon find that you are no more feeling pain in doing these exercises at a stretch. Also, it brings a lot of graceful moves in your life that helps you in different spheres.

  • Strengthening the Muscles:

It helps in strengthening the muscles to a great extent. If you have started with a plank of 30 seconds on the first day, slowly, this will increase. It may happen that after a couple of days, you are able to do the same plank of 1 full minute. Also, it may happen that after a month or so, you are able to stay in the plank position for 5 minutes.  Strengthening the muscles will help you in going ahead with other sets of exercises too that can help you stay fit and healthy.

  • Lean Body:

If you are aiming at getting a lean body, again this workout is a great option. Start slow and continue adding up more number of repetitions. When the muscles get strong, slowly you are capable of repeating the same movement or exercise several times in one go. This helps in burning out the fat fast and achieving a lean figure.

  • Less or No Equipment:

A major benefit of adopting this form of workout is that you do not need any kind of equipment for this. If you wish to increase your difficulty level, you can add up more weight on your body. For example, when you wish to make your plank a bit challenging, you can wear a heavy belt while doing the plank. Similarly, try to do sit-ups much faster than before or without a gap.

Calisthenics have proven to be a beneficial workout regime earlier. Again now when it has returned back, it is proving how it is beneficial in different ways. With the right set of exercises and in the right way, you can always stay fit and healthy.
