What Health Checkup Should a Woman Have Every Year?

Every woman is a superwoman and their daily chores require much stamina and a tremendous level of patience. Be that waking up early in the morning and preparing breakfast to get ready for work alongside waking the children up in the morning for school, a woman needs to be in her best health. There are certain health checkups for every girl, woman, mother, and daughter. As a woman, you could either buy some of these commonly used medical supplies so you could self-inspect your body or visit a reliable gynecologist for routine checkups.

The “Must” have tests during your 20’s and 3o’s

1.   Pelvic and Pap Smear tests are important

Well, a lot of us out there are not quite aware of what a pelvic and Pap smear exam is, this test detects cervical cancer. According to the doctors, this test should be conducted every three years.

2.   Getting an STD test isn’t disrespectful

 There is a misconception that having an STD test is disrespectful for a woman but that’s not the case. In fact, it is much necessary to have an STD test done in order to be safe and aware. Meeting new people coming close to them in an intimate manner is not an unnatural thing and if precaution is taken it is appreciated not demeaned.

3.    Screen for the Breast Cancer

 Women in their 20’s and 30’s are highly recommended to determine their chances of breast cancer, especially if there is a history of breast cancer in the family. If a patient is detected with any potential risk, they are advised for genetic counseling or BRCA testing.

4.   Don’t forget about your  physical exam

For a woman in her twenties and thirties, it is a must that she has a physical exam which includes her:

  • height
  • weight
  • body mass index (BMI)

If your health appears to be suspicious the doctors might as well question you on:

  • depression
  • alcohol and drug use
  • smoking
  • diet and exercise
  • vaccination history
  • intimate partner violence

5.   Get your Cholesterol checked

Did you know women have early possibilities of suffering from cholesterol problems? It has been noticed that starting at age 20 and following 45, screening for cholesterol becomes essential, as the risk of heart disease becomes common.

6.   Keep the Blood Pressure in check

If a person’s blood pressure remains or exceeds 140/90 they fall under the category for high blood pressure risks. If it remains frequently higher, your doctor is most likely to recommend you have it checked more often. The risk increases because if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure your possibility of having diabetes increases.

7.   Keep your vision and dental health in check

Being busy due to work and family women often forget that they are getting old. To keep the duties running smoothly it is just that they keep their vision test on track every year. After a point, the human body starts losing its strength in dental and sometimes, visionary aptness.

While the dentist should be in the visit list every year, along with regular flossing if you wish to keep your smile always bright.

8. Mammogram for breast cancer

It is unfortunate that the risk of breast cancer in women increases rapidly in their 40’s. The specialists highly recommend women to get their mammograms every other year between 50 and 74 years old.

 9.  Don’t forget the Colon Cancer Screening

According to the doctors once a woman turns 50 she should start being screened for colon cancer, mainly focusing on tests:

  • yearly stool test
  • colonoscopy (every 10 years)
  • double-contrast barium enema (every five years)
  • computed tomographic colonoscopy (every five years)

10.   Bone Density Test

After the age of forty, women’s bone density starts becoming weak and they require a yearly checkup. This way not only will they be able to be more cautious regarding their health but also be able to reduce the risk for osteoporosis upon reaching in their late 60’s.

11.   Hearing Test

The hearing test is one of the most forgotten and overlooked tests which is equally as important as any other tests suggested throughout this article.

12.   Diabetics Test

Last but not the least diabetics is a disease that needs to be tested for as frequently as possible so you get to keep it under control all the time. Being diabetic will affect a woman’s health to an alarming level, so become familiar with these possibilities beforehand.

  • physical inactivity
  • severe obesity
  • having a first-degree relative with diabetes
  • Wounds need a long time to heal
