What Are the Different Methods of General Pest Control?

There are many different types of pests that you need to be aware of. These range from the termite that can literally eat your home from under you, to the bed bug that will nibble you while you sleep. Rodents and rats can also be an issue, as can cockroaches, mosquitoes, and a whole host of garden pests. The list is almost never-ending!

That’s why the most important thing you can do in pest control is to know your enemy. Before you take any steps to eliminate them, you need to know what you’re dealing with. It’s a good idea to seek expert advice in order to know what pests you have and the best path to take with them. You can click here about your local pest control professionals.

The most obvious approach is to prevent the pests from getting into your home or garden. This eliminates the need to get rid of pests as they are deterred from even entering your home. You can find out more info here about creating a pest control or home prevention plan.

One of the biggest steps in prevention is to ensure all potential entry points are blocked. If the pests can get in they can’t cause any damage.

The professionals use pesticides to eliminate pests or even to deter them. These are powerful chemicals that should only be handled by professionals. They can be sprayed into tiny gaps to ensure the problem is eradicated at its source.

However, it is possible you’ll have to vacate the house temporarily to ensure they work effectively. This is also a good idea to protect your own health, the chemicals used by professionals can kill a lot of bacteria. To add into the list is the geese can cause a lot of problems if left unchecked. With more geese living in urban and suburban areas away from their natural predators, their populations are doubling every 3-5 years. Just one goose will eat up to 3 lbs of grass in one day and leave up to 2 lbs of droppings that contain dangerous bacteria and parasites. Besides destroying the turf and leaving droppings, geese can also be extremely aggressive at different parts of the year while trying to protect their young. But with goose deterrent you will definitely see and experience how to get rid of gooses humanely.

Bait Boxes

A slightly more natural, but still deadly approach, is the use of bait boxes. In most cases this is simply placing poison inside a specially designed box. The pests take the poison and die, it’s that simple.

Of course, the bait boxes must be kept out of the way of children and animals, it can be dangerous for them as well.

It’s worth noting, in some cases, such as dealing with termites, good bait is used first. This is bait that is actually a treat for the pest. The idea is for them to confirm the bait box is a good source of food. You can then switch to the poison bait and wipe out the entire colony surprisingly quickly.

The Natural Approach

If you prefer to keep it natural you’ll find that it can be harder to completely eliminate the issue. However, there are some products that can help. For example, essential oils are very good at deterring pests. Dish soap is an effective way of trapping a variety of insects, and diatomaceous earth is very effective at dehydrating and killing almost any insect.

Again, the key to success is to know what pests you’re dealing with. This will allow you to create the best possible treatment and prevention plan.
