Small Steps Towards Minimalism

Written by on August 19, 2020 in Stuff with 0 Comments

Trying to be mindful or responsible is said to be the grown up thing to do. Grown up or not, minimalism is quite simple and can be taken a few steps at a time. It doesn’t have to be a drastic change. Every change, no matter how small, counts.

The “does this spark joy?” actually works. We tend to hoard or hold on to various things due to reasons like sentimental value or for future use when in fact, it just adds clutter and dust to a space. Letting go is hard yet freeing once we get to it. The amount of space we actually have will be surprising once we clear things up.

Mindful Purchasing

Usually, we only ask ourselves “is it worth it?” when something is expensive. But practicing it even for cheap items can be applicable, too. Plus, those cheap purchases can rack up into an expensive loss in our budget or savings. We lessen our carbon footprint as well when we avoid unnecessary or excessive purchases. Think about the trash that comes off from purchases (packaging, containers, labels, tags, etc).

Mindful Acquisition

Just because something is free does not mean we are entitled to it. Think first if it is really needed else leave it alone for someone who might actually need it. It is also nice to go thrift shopping because aside from saving on a few bucks, we get to repurpose things rather than them adding up to dumpsites. Minimalism is quite an environmental friendly practice. Green living brings peace of mind to everyone.

Minimalist Items

Various items are now designed to offer minimalist design and use — from best minimalist wallet to cookware. Now, don’t immediately rid yourself of existing products you have that you actually use. Just shop for these lifestyle products when the time comes that you actually need them or for when a friend/family needs them.
