Most everyone knows the fundamentals to health and well-being – eat right, get proper rest and stay well hydrated. And while we know to do these things, there seems to be a very real disconnect between what we know and what we do. The human body has an amazing ability to heal itself when its needs are met. The five self-healing techniques everyone should know create the types of conditions that enable the body to be phenomenal.
The Body’s Amazing Self-Healing Ability
The human body can do amazing things, many of which we take for granted or just don’t know about. Over 37 trillion “living” cells make up the body. With each passing minute, 300 million of these cells are replaced with new ones. This means, in a year’s time, 96 percent of the cells in your body will have been replaced with new cells. In essence, the human body is a non-stop, self-healing system! The five self-healing techniques everyone should know create the types of conditions that allow the body to heal itself. The quality of the food and rest we get, the level of toxins in the body, how well we maintain proper hydration and how we treat ourselves create the conditions our bodies have to work with. Ultimately, phenomenal bodies are possible at any age provided we give them what they need to thrive.
5 Self-Healing Techniques Everyone Should Know
1) Living Cells Need “Living Food”
The idea of “living” versus “dead” food probably doesn’t cross most people's’ minds when it comes to nutritional value, but it does matter. Living food is food in its most natural state, which is raw. Dead food has been altered in some way, such as through adding preservatives, processing and also cooking.
Each of these processes weakens a food’s nutritional value in harmful ways. So much so that when we eat these foods or building materials, the new cells being manufactured are actually weaker than the cells they’re replacing. After years and years of eating inferior food materials, the cells in the body gradually deteriorate, which leads to sickness, aging and mental decline.
Based on Genesis 1:29, God designed our bodies to consume a living or raw, plant-based diet. The verse goes as follows: “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb (vegetable) bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food (meat).” When we eat anything other than what was intended to nourish our bodies, we’re missing out on the quality-building materials that healthy foods provide.
2) Stay Hydrated
We all know that eating healthy and staying well hydrated go hand-in-hand. Though, interestingly enough, the body can survive much longer without food than water. In fact, three days with no water and the average person will die. Considering 60 percent of the human body consists of water, staying properly hydrated becomes a fundamental aspect of good health.
When the body lives in a dehydrated state, its natural self-healing abilities start to falter. Losing as little as 1 percent of the body’s water will cause problems with coordination. By the time you start to feel thirsty, your body has already lost 2 to 3 percent of its water. As a general rule, dividing your body weight in half will give you the number of ounces of high quality beverages like fresh vegetable juice, juicy fruits, succulent vegetables and pure water you should consume every day. Since 22 percent of the average American’s water intake comes from food, this also contributes to the body’s water intake. You can increase this number even more by eating foods that have a high water content. This includes raw vegetables like lettuce, celery and broccoli and fruit, such as apples, oranges and pears.
3) Get Proper Rest
From the outside, sleep can look like the ultimate state of inactivity. The body may not be moving much, but its internal systems are carrying out a host of activities that heal, repair and strengthen it. As far as self-healing techniques go, this one goes to the heart of making the phenomenal body. Without proper rest, the body doesn’t get the time and space it needs to heal. During sleep, the brain releases hormones that enable tissue growth throughout the body. Sleep also gives the brain time to repair its own cells as well as the myelin sheaths that coat the body’s entire nervous system. Cognitive functions also undergo a fine-tuning in terms of sharpening the brain systems responsible for memory and problem-solving. Lastly, sleep is a time when the body produces the white blood cells that protect it from sickness and disease.
4) Self-Talk
As fluffy as self-talk and positive affirmations may seem, how we talk about ourselves has a direct impact on our physical health. Proverbs 18:21 puts it this way, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Whenever we start a sentence with the word “I,” our brains interpret what comes next as a statement of fact. So speaking positive things about your health, whether in conversation with a friend or to yourself, sets the desire and actions needed to make it so in motion.
5) Detoxing on a Regular Basis
Environmental toxins, such as pollution, drugs and food additives bombard the body every day. These conditions cause toxins to build up. Not surprisingly, these toxins or poisons interfere with the body’s systems, creating prime conditions for sickness and disease to develop. For these reasons, it’s important to detox the body on a regular basis. Juice detoxes work especially well at clearing toxins out the body while also supplying it with essential nutrients.
Truth be told, the body is equipped to keep itself going for many more years than many of us actually get. The trick is to provide it with the conditions it needs to do what it naturally does. We’re all born with phenomenal bodies that can heal themselves when given half a chance.
