William “Roddie” Bryan Jr., the man who recorded the killing of Ahmaud Arbery has now been arrested on suspicion of murder relating to the case.
Bryan’s neighbors, Travis and Gregory McMichael, hunted 25-year-old Arbery for about 5 minutes after they saw him walking through a construction site in the neighborhood. Eventually, they confronted Arbery who was likely scared and trying to get away. In the following struggle, Arbery was shot twice with a shotgun at close range.
The murder took place back in February but the McMichaels were not charged in the case until earlier this month when Bryan’s video of the incident went viral and sparked global outrage.
Kevin Gough, an attorney for Bryan told CNN that his client was not involved in the actions taken by the McMichaels, and that he would be the state’s “star witness.”
“I hope that it, in the end, brings justice to the family and peace to the family,” he previously said of the video.
However, the attorneys representing members of the Arbery family said they believe it was very clear that Bryan was involved in the murder.
“We called for his arrest from the very beginning of this process. His involvement in the murder of Mr. Arbery was obvious to us, to many around the country and after their thorough investigation, it was clear to the GBI as well,” attorneys S. Lee Merritt, Benjamin Crump, and L. Chris Stewart, said in a statement.
According to testimony from the McMichaels, Bryan made attempts to help them block Arbery in as they were hunting him down.
