As 2018 comes whirling to its inevitable end, what it brings with it is the annual rush of the holidays where you can literally feel the “buzz” of energy in the air whether you celebrate this time of year or not. And if you’re anything like me, it’s usually followed by a few days of sloth, then a few days of guilt for good measure LOL
As as we roll (some of us literally hehe) into the new year and ride that wave of energy as long as we can, many of us follow the self-torture tradition of creating a New Year’s resolution list where we put down all of the things about ourselves we wish to change, work on or work towards for the coming 12 months. And again, if you’re anything like me, mine always tend to look just a tad like a list from last year…
So, what’s up with that?
The Gregorian Calendar messes up our internal clock and cycles enough as it is, whereas the “true new year” used to be recognized in cohesion with the Spring Equinox. We all know Spring as the time of year for birth, renewal and when the cold drudges of winter begin to melt away to make room for new growth and new life. If we as human beings were still connected to the cycles of nature that way through our current calendar, I honestly feel that more people would struggle less at not only starting on those resolutions but actually achieving and maintaining them.
The way I see it is in how I begin my day, which is completely determined by the time of year it is, even living here in the (mostly) sunny year-round state of Arizona. If I wake at 6 am and see the gorgeous sunshine peering through my window, teasing me to join it as it leads me through a cool morning desert hike, well l don’t know about you but I find that much more motivating than opening my eyes at 6 am to a completely dark room.
And this brings me back to the fact that although it’s become somewhat of an American tradition, New Year’s resolutions can sometimes do more harm than good, especially if we are never crossing anything off of our lists year after year. Not only does this belittle our sense of accomplishments, but it chips away at our self-esteem. Pile of the added expectations of friends and family around you who may know everything on your list, and you have a perfect recipe for setting yourself up to fail.
So, who besides me has had enough of that crap??? 🙂 What this past year (the last year of my 30s by the way) has taught me, is that only during the times I’ve made peace with who I am RIGHT NOW, was I able to enter the right state of mind, motivation and frequency to actually allow space in your life for these changes to come, habits to break, etc.
Any other times I spent “out” of the present moment, it was as if I was I was on some level telling myself that I wasn’t good enough right now. And that is a completely different energy than loving who you are in every moment, as you move towards your greatness. In fact, THAT kind of energy, recognizing rather than always resolving who we are, is exactly what gets us to the finish line.
Many of us create these resolutions to prove something, whether it is to themselves or to others. But if it is done with only the end goal of getting recognition from those who know what you’re doing in mind (and heart), then you are literally cutting yourself short and putting obstacles in your own path and you may not even know it…as again that energy is telling us “we are here” and what is an acceptable version of us is “over there” and until we get there, we will not get that recognition.
But that is the trick! The Universe is funny in that it runs true to the paradigm of you gotta believe it to see it and your goals and aspirations are no different when it comes to manifesting change or abundance into your life. One of the keys is knowing, by matching the feeling, that you already ARE abundant, etc.
So, this time around how about instead of rushing to create lists of things about ourselves we don’t like, don’t have, don’t want, etc. and want to change so we can feel good and accepted, let’s switch it up a bit and choose to feel good and accepted NOW, but giving ourselves some love and acceptance. Instead of feeling like we MUST following a checklist and rush to complete it in the next 12 months, let’s FEEL into when we know the right time to begin things, to end things and to accept what we actually can’t change.
A simple shift in our mindset will open new opportunities for us to approach our personal goals in all areas of our lives, and the fact you will be giving yourself the gift of full acceptance now is something demonstrative of pure self-love, and whether we want to or not, on a vibrational level, that is something as human beings we all innately recognize.
Happy Holidays!!! xoxo
