As you’re probably aware, Invisalign is one of the most popular alternatives to traditional metal braces. Because it uses clear aligners to correct the spacing and alignment of teeth, it is far less noticeable than metal braces. On top of that you can take out the aligners when you need to eat, which many people find more comfortable.

But before you jump the gun and decide to get Invisalign, you should first take a step back and look into whether or not it is suitable. In particular there are a few questions that you should ask yourself:

  • Can invisalign fix your teeth?

Although Invisalign is effective, it does have some limitations and cannot fix all the orthodontic issues that metal braces are able to. It may not be the best option if you have large gaps between your teeth, rotated teeth, severe overbite or underbite, and several other conditions.

In short, you need to first consult your dentist or orthodontist about Invisalign Cheswick to find out if it is feasible.

  • How old are you?

While most teenagers and adults can use Invisalign, the one condition that needs to be met is that all your baby teeth have been extracted and adult teeth have emerged.

  • Are your teeth and gums in good condition?

Before getting Invisalign you need to make sure your teeth and gums are in good condition. Any cavities or gum disease must be dealt with beforehand, and you need to ensure your teeth remain in good condition throughout your treatment.

  • Are you self-disciplined?

It may surprise you, but the fact of the matter is that if you want to get Invisalign you need to be self-disciplined. That is because Invisalign gives you a lot of freedom, and if you aren’t disciplined enough and don’t follow instructions – the treatment won’t be effective.

To put it simply, if you want to get Invisalign you need to follow all the rules and keep them on for at least 22 hours a day as well as clean and take care of them.

  • Does your insurance cover it?

Keep in mind that Invisalign is generally more expensive than traditional metal braces. As such, you should check whether or not your insurance will cover it – and if not, look at whether or not your finances allow you to get it.

The good news is that nowadays Invisalign is often at least partially covered by dental insurance. That said it is still best to discuss it with your orthodontist and insurance agent.

Once you’re able to answer all these questions you should be able to determine whether or not Invisalign is the right choice. It is best to consult your dentist and get their opinion as to whether Invisalign will be effective, or if traditional metal braces fit your condition better.

Regardless of what you decide, the most important thing to remember is that your goal should be to fix the alignment of your teeth and ensure you end up with a great smile.
