Rose Water

One of the oldest skin care and grooming products.  Food safe. I love using a product that combines rose water with witch hazel.

Rose water is a heart strengthener inside and out:  cardiovascular and courage

  1. Reduce redness from overheated, irritated  skin
  2. Great cleanser aids in removing oils and dirt, accumulated in clogged pores
  3. Astringent properties, great after facials to clean up and open pores, tighten capillaries
  4. Aroma:  powerful mood enhancer.  Rids feeling of anxiety, promotes emotional well-being, de-stressing, helps you sleep better 
  5. Use at night – scents sheets with spray bottle, helps clear impurities that your face has collected during the day
  6. Bath water – relax  Shampoo, great for dry scalp and helps with fungal infections
  7. Revives makeup during the day.  Mist lightly  

More Magnesium Please! 

Only 1% of the body’s magnesium is stored in the blood, so a blood test will not show a deficiency.   

Deficiency is often misdiagnosed.  Dr. Norman Shealy, “Every known illness is associated with magnesium deficiency” and “magnesium is the most critical mineral required for electrical stability of every cell in the body.”

Second of importance to oxygen, then water.  Magnesium is more important than:  calcium, potassium, or sodium.  Magnesium regulates all of three.

Most of magnesium is stored in the tissues

Leg cramps, foot pain, or muscle twitches could be the first sign of deficiency.  

What Depletes Magnesium? 

Stress, sugar, alcohol, & caffeine 

Stress on the body includes:  food allergies, dependence upon processed foods, exposure to heavy metals and  prescription drugs.

Foods high in magnesium:  kelp, dulse, spinach, swiss chard, collard greens, avocado, parsley, wheat bran, wheat germ, buckwheat, millet, rye, quinoa, barley, tofu, soybeans, brown rice, beans, almonds, cashew, brazil nuts, sesame seeds, filberts, pecans, walnuts, figs, dates, shrimp, 80% dark chocolate

Goal:  Women 650 mg. Men 850 mg., daily  (Magnesium citrate is the best in supplement form.  Avoid poorly absorbed forms: carbonate, sulfate, gluconate, and oxide)

1 x a week Epson Salt Bath

1-2 cups Epsom salts, 1 cup baking soda….Soak for 30-40 minutes

Magnesium helps alkalize the urine

Magnesium deficiency is precursor to diabetes and heart disease

Diabetics need more and lose more magnesium than most people

Hemp Energy – Benefits, Recipes and It’s interesting history

Raw hemp seeds are one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet. While it is related to the cannabis plant, Hemp seeds do not contain the psychoactive component tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and is legal to consume in most parts of the world. The nutritional profile for hemp seeds include:

·      Protein: Every 100g of hemp seed has 33g of protein, including the complete Amino Acid profile necessary for life and the function of our bodies.

·      Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs): Hemp seeds contain some of the highest amounts of Omega-3 and Omega-6, which helps boost our immune system, and keep our hail and nails shiny. Every 100g of hemp seeds has 47g of EFAs.

·      Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA): Hemp seeds are one of only 5 known sources of this ‘wonder oil’ believed to prevent inflammation

·      Phytosterols: Hemp seeds contain high amounts of cholesterol-fighting plant sterols, with 1480 mg present in only 20g of hemp seeds.

·      Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): Hemp seeds have over 15 times as much of the fat-fighting acid as fish oil.

·      Hemp seeds have a plethora of Fat-Soluble Vitamins and Minerals including:

magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, B vitamins, Vit. E, Vit D3, antioxidants, and enzymes. 

·      Low Carbohydrates: All of these benefits with only a ½ gram of sugar for every 20g serving of hemp seeds.

Interesting Hemp Facts Beyond Food and Drugs

Hemp materials have been found in the ashen ruins of Pompeii. The Vikings used hemp sails. By the eighth-century the hemp papermaking techniques from China had spread to Arabia and Persia. Around 1150 the Moors started manufacturing hemp paper in Spain. Both the Gutenberg Bible (fifteenth century) and the King James Bible (seventeenth century) were printed on hemp paper. In 1619, America’s first hemp law was enacted at Jamestown colony “ordering” all farmers to grow hemp. Similarly, mandatory hemp cultivation laws were enacted in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and in the Chesapeake colonies into the mid-1700s. The Declaration of Independence was written and signed on hemp paper. The original California 49er Levi-Strauss jeans were made from hemp canvas (sail cloth) and rivets. The original American flags, including Old Glory, were made from hemp fiber. The parachute that saved George Bush Sr.’s life in World War II was made of hemp fiber.

Why did Hemp disappear and now is emerging?

It became illegal in the US in 1937 with some controversy over it’s psychoactive nature and it’s cheap availability for pulp and building materials, etc.  It is a very interesting study.

Hemp Energy Bites

1/3 cup hemp seed

1/3 cup toasted coconut

2 Tbsp coconut oil

1 Tbsp raw honey

Mix and then spread out in a rectangular pan.  Use one larger than needed and it is easier to remove the squares.

Place in freezer for an hour or so and store either in the fridge or freezer.

Toasted coconut:  place coconut in the rectangular pan you plan to use to solidify the squares.  Toast for about 5 minutes until brown @ 325 degrees.

Hemp Smoothie              

2 servings

2 cups coconut milk or plant milk of choice

4 tbsp. hemp powder

¾ cup blueberries

½ cup pineapple

1 tsp. raw honey

1 cup of ice

Blend.   (For an extra smoother smoothie, let it sit in the fridge for a half hour.)

If you are having digestive issues, let them settle before enjoying this smoothie.
