UN Report Condemns US for ‘Deliberately’ Creating Devastating Wealth Inequality

With millions of Americans already on the brink of deep poverty, Philip Alston, U.N. Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights and author of the new report, warned that Trump’s tax law, deregulatory agenda, and welfare cuts are driving the poor closer to complete “ruination,” which the U.N. official defines as “severe deprivation of food and almost no access to healthcare.”

Six Big Losers in Our ‘Booming’ Economy

While stocks doubled, 18% more kids fell into poverty. The U.S. has taken nearly half of the world’s new wealth since the 2008 recession, and the stock market more than doubled from 2008 to 2014, but the number of children living below the federal poverty threshold increased by 18 percent during that same timeframe.

As Wealth Gap Grows, 60 Percent of Americans Say Lopsided Distribution ‘Unfair’

As the gap between the rich and poor in the U.S. continues to grow with more and more wealth being held by fewer people, 63 percent of Americans say that this distribution is unfair, according to a new Gallup survey published Monday. Additionally, 52 percent of respondents say that the problem of inequality should be solved with “heavy taxes on the rich,” a proportion that has risen from 45 percent since Gallup first began asking that question in 1998.

World At A Crossroads: Stop The Fast Track To A Future Of Global Corporate Rule

As globalization begins its third decade, the question before us is, do we want corporate rule or people’s rule? Is the wealth of a few more important than human rights? What can be done to empower people? Should the nation-state become a thing of the past and corporate sovereignty reign, or is there another path? This is a debate that cannot be fast tracked; it must be brought into the open before trade agreements cement corporate rule for decades to come. We urge people to put their effort into stopping fast track legislation in Congress. This will not be easy because it is high on the president’s agenda, many pro-business legislators and entities like the Chamber of Congress. It can only be stopped if people work together persistently to oppose it.

Richest 1% Percent To Have More Than Rest of Humanity Combined by 2016

In less than two years, if current trends continued unchecked, the richest 1% percent of people on the planet will own at least half of the world’s wealth. Alongside climate change, Oxfam says that spiraling disparity between the super-rich and everyone else, is brewing disaster for humanity as a whole.
