Ophiuchus NOT 13th Zodiac Sign

The signs of the zodiac are the star constellations the Sun and planets appear to travel through during the course of one year. This relatively thin path that the planets follow is called the ‘Ecliptic.‘ We know now that it is the Earth that revolves around the Sun, but what is important is that everything and everyone is essentially at the centre of their own universe and everything else is seen from their own individual perspective. Please watch my Video below for the Inside track…

Mercury Moves into Cancer – Covid update…

Cancer, the planet which influences communication, travel, commerce, and technology moves into Cancer on 28th May at 7.10pm UCT where it will reside until the 4th August. So for over 10 weeks it transits one of its least positive locations. Why? Well, the logic of Mercury is diluted by the watery emotion of Cancer. This can lead to subjective decision making and confusion.

Initially with social distancing being eased, many families will happily meet, but it goes into Shadow from the 2nd of June and a Retrograde from 18th of June. This continues to July 12th before emerging from Shadow on 26th July.

There are big planetary clashes along the way not least it is in a tense Quincunx with strict Saturn at the outset, which can create a conflict between responding in a more emotional way to our needs, rather than with cool detachment.

To understand how this will impact on us all, but crucially on your Personal Zodiac sign Please CLICK or TAP on the Video below…

Vedic Astrology for September: A Significant Month of Major Change

vedic astrology May 2015

September is a significant month of major change and personal transformation, with three major planets (Rahu, Ketu, and Jupiter) moving to new signs within a few days of each other, signaling a shift of perspective and focus over the next 12 to 18 months. Also, a five-month intermittent pattern of Kala Sarpa Yoga begins in September. This is a planetary combination of great karmic significance that requires high ethical standards as we open to greater awareness on the planet.

A major planetary transit occurs September 8, 2017 when the powerful nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu, shift signs. The nodes are called shadow planets or chaya grahas, and are connected to eclipse energies. Rahu (north node) will move into the sign of Cancer, while Ketu (south node) moves into the sign of Capricorn, staying in these signs until March 23, 2019. The nodes of the Moon are planets in Vedic astrology, and move backwards through the zodiac, shifting signs every 18 months or so. Previously, Rahu has been in the sign of Leo, and Ketu in the sign of Aquarius since January 8, 2016. Nodal transits can be very impactful, and can lead to sudden events, life lessons, deep growth, and even some confusion.

Rahu, a psychological and material planet that rules expansion, innovation, intensity, and desire, now travels the sensitive water sign of Cancer. Rahu in Cancer (a sign ruled by the Moon) can create a longing to be involved in nurturing activities, connect more intimately with family and friends, have a secure and safe environment to live in, and create a deeper bond with nature and within our communities. It’s easier for us to see the value in generating more empathy and caring in our world. This is a good transit to transcend our toxic or dramatic emotions in order to experience greater peace in our lives.

On the shadow side, Rahu in Cancer can increase challenges we have with family members or it can quickly amplify ungrounded fears, addictions, or worries. Learn to not over-react and be more patient.  Instead, transmute any anxious energies into creative and positive projects and develop deeper heart connections.

Ketu, a non-material mystical planet that represents spirituality or moksha, detachment, intuition, hypersensitivity, loss, or rejection now resides in the practical earth sign of Capricorn. Ketu is a planet that asks us to let go or surrender, so in the Saturn-ruled sign of Capricorn, means detaching from the desire to be in total control and be less intolerant or pessimistic. Positively, Ketu in Capricorn can help us take a more spiritual approach to our work, as we awaken to the true responsibilities in our life. We feel increased motivations to be of service to those in need. The shadow of Ketu in Capricorn can bring avoidance, not wanting to face life, sacrificing oneself needlessly, or being too hard or critical about life.  Ketu in Capricorn can be a highly spiritual transit if you learn to let go of stress and not judge. Bring happiness and gratitude into your everyday life and find joy in the simple things.

Jupiter, the great benefic planet of spirituality, optimism, prosperity, and divine grace, begins its transit through the Venus-ruled sign of Libra from September 11, 2017 until October 11, 2018. The sign of Libra wants harmony and balance, so Jupiter here focuses on the need for peace and idealism. Involvement with humanitarian, charitable or non-profit organizations is highlighted during this period.  This transit can create more opportunities for social interactions or romantic interludes. As both Jupiter and Venus (ruler of Libra) are teacher planets, attaining our educational goals is a possible theme. The challenge of Jupiter in Libra is lack of discipline or being over-indulgent. The highest expression of this transit can emphasize more diplomacy, equality, and fairness in our world, as we realize how mutual respect and greater wisdom can bring more lasting peace.

From September 18 to October 1, 2017 we begin a Kala Sarpa Yoga pattern that occurs two weeks at a time, followed by two weeks out of this yoga combination. This “on and off” pattern lasts five months, beginning mid-September 2017 until mid-January 2018. Kala Sarpa means “the snake of time,” which indicates this is a pivotal and significant five month period. We last experienced this yoga in the months around the Presidential election last fall.  This yoga combination occurs when all the planets are sandwiched in between the nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu. Psychologically this can make us feel that we have less free will or we may feel a certain “destiny” occurring in the world. With this Kala Sarpa transit we can experience some intense highs or lows, which increase our sensitivity, so do practices that center you, such as mindfulness meditation, yoga, and breath work.  High morals, a positive attitude and detachment, along with some common sense are remedies for the Kala Sarpa Yoga combination, which can bring significant healing and increased awareness.

Don’t waste this beautiful opportunity to gain greater spiritual growth.  Strengthen your inner foundation, evolve, and let your heart be our teacher.

Vedic Astrology for May: Here’s What’s In Store As Mercury Goes Direct

vedic astrology May 2015

May is a month of mentally moving forward, experiencing clearer perceptions, and letting go of old mental clutter, as Mercury goes direct and gives us a fresh start. The Sun in Aries the first half of the month portends increased vitality and inner resolve. With the transit of Mars this month, it will be beneficial to be more disciplined and patient, and less reactive. And with Venus exactly opposite Jupiter mid-month, try to be open and invite divine grace and inner guidance to flow through your life.

On May 3, 2017, Mercury, planet of communications, the intellect, and discrimination, goes direct at 0 degrees Aries – the very first degree of the zodiac. This is a gandanta degree (spiritual knot), located on the cusp between a water and fire sign, which is noteworthy, because it puts even more emphasis on letting go of past memories, worries, or beliefs that no longer serve you. This is a time to be very discerning with how you communicate with others, and to do so with honesty, clarity, and no hidden agenda.

With Mercury transiting Mars-ruled Aries until June 3, watch for impatient speech or reacting too forcefully, and instead become a creative problem-solver. Realize we are not our thoughts. You don’t have to belief or react to any thoughts that move through your mind.

Instead, focus on clearing up any misunderstandings you have had in the past, and do so with no expectations and an open heart.  This is a good time to commit to a regular meditation practice or take that class you have been putting off. You can slowly begin to move forward now with more certainty and confidence.

The Sun transits its exalted sign of Aries until May 14, 2017, which will bring more energy, vitality, and directness. The Sun here is very individualistic and this transit can begin a cycle of self-discovery. Aries is self-initiating and pioneering, but sometimes needs to learn patience, moderation, and sharing. The Sun in Aries likes to inspire others and brings forth new ideas, so participate in uplifting activities.

The Sun begins its transit through the fixed earth sign of Taurus from May 14 to June 14, 2017. During this time, your inspirations become more grounded and real. You can focus on what is truly valuable to you, and let go of the superficial. You may find that you long for more stability and commitment in your life. If you can be more adaptable and less stubborn, this can be a very creative and fertile time. Spend more time in natural surroundings and connect with dear friends and family.

On May 18-19, 2017, Venus exalted in Pisces will exactly oppose Jupiter retrograde in Virgo at exactly 19 degrees. These two planets have been opposite each other for quite a while now — since January 27 when Venus moved into Pisces, and this will end on May 30, 2017 when Venus moves to Aries. But they will aspect exactly on May 18-19, connecting these two, different teacher planets (Jupiter is the teacher of the gods, Venus is the teacher of the demons). This can increase our interests in higher knowledge, esoteric subjects, and healing modalities. And with Venus in the sign of Pisces for such a long time (four months), we are all more likely to strive to understand and express the higher vibrations of Venus like unconditional love, compassion, devotion, and deep healing.

Luckily, during this time, Saturn is aspecting retrograde Jupiter, which may temper the indulgence and excess that the Jupiter-Venus combination can sometimes express. This will create some restraint and maturity and help us all to sense our “inner prosperity” and motivate us to express our “abundance” outwardly by donating our time to worthy causes, or by simply helping our friends or family members in need.

On May 26, 2017, Mars, planet of action and energy, moves to Gemini until July 11, 2017. Mars and Mercury will create a Parivartana Yoga, with Mars in the sign of Mercury (Gemini) and Mercury in the sign of Mars (Aries) for a few days – from May 26 to June 3. Parivartana Yoga joins these two planetary energies tightly together. Mars sees Mercury as an enemy, while Mercury sees Mars as being neutral. So watch for frustrating communications, angry words, or taking things too personally. Stop and think things through before speaking. This can be a positive combination for analyzing situations and being a good problem-solver – IF you are patient. Take the time to include others in your decision-making.

In addition, as Mars begins its transit through Gemini, it will oppose Saturn in Sagittarius at 1 degree on May 28 and 29. These two planets are not very friendly with each other, so as they face off you may experience increased frustrations and possible delays in the actions you take. It’s important not to give up, but move through these barriers with grace and peace. During this time, you may need to be more responsible, truthful, and learn from the seeds you have sown. Take more time to understand all sides of an issue before making important decisions.

Vedic Astrology for March 2017: Venus Retrograde, Mercury Debilitated & The Focus On Self-Love

vedic astrology May 2015

This month, with Venus exalted and retrograde, and Mercury debilitated in Pisces, the focus is on self-love, improving our relationship skills, communicating from the heart, and coming back to our true values. Letting of judgement, respecting others, and being less impulsive are also important lessons with Mars in Aries.

Mars, planet of action and assertiveness, moves into the fiery sign of Aries on March 1, 2017 until April 12, 2017. Mars is the ruler of the sign of Aries, and feels comfortable transiting its own sign. We are more spontaneous, pioneering, and adventurous. Being too impulsive, getting angry quickly, and having lack of follow-through are the challenges with Mars in Aries. It is recommended to take time when making important decisions and to consider others’ point of view. Listening well and acknowledging others is very important now. Instead of focusing on the differences you may have with others, try to see what you truly have in common. Be more self-controlled and less reactive. While Mars is strong in Aries, we want to invest our time in activities that bring us more energy and vitality, like beginning a yoga practice or other self-improvement modalities. We want simplicity and directness in dealing with others. To be more centered and vital we must move through any anger or fear-based issues now with grace and forgiveness.

Venus, planet of love, relationships, healing, and finance goes retrograde from March 4, 2017 until April 15, 2017 in its exalted sign of Pisces. Re-evaluation of your current relationships is a possible theme with this transit. Even an old partner can reappear in order to complete some unfinished business or to have closure. This is a time to uncover your true motives in love. Issues concerning self-worth, lack of support, and compromise can arise for us to feel and heal.

We may feel even more emotional and vulnerable at this time – especially with Venus retrograde in the sensitive and sympathetic sign of Pisces. We want deep, intimate connections with others, but try not to romanticize or idealize too much.  Be real and heart-felt. We may be tested in matters of love and integrity. Have clear boundaries and be discriminating and self-responsible.  Real love does not expect anything in return. Realize that it is through relationships that we learn and evolve in profound ways.

When Venus is retrograde, prosperity and financial issues can also surface to understand and review, as our values may shift. Our perceptions in love and finance are not as clear when Venus is retrograde, and we can make choices too quickly with highly-charged emotions.  With this in mind, this is probably not the best time to make important decisions about love, relationships, or finances until the retrograde period is over. Then we can see with renewed insight, and be more objective. Devotional practices that focus on spiritual love and compassion for all are positive expressions with Venus retrograde.

Mercury, planet of communications, moves into Pisces, its sign of debility on March 10, 2017 until March 26, 2017. Mercury will be with exalted Venus, which reverses some of its debility. Mercury in Pisces is less concerned with details, and somewhat indirect with communications. Speaking with clarity and greater discernment is indicated to avoid any misunderstandings.  With Venus retrograde and Mercury debilitated this month, take the time to understand and speak honestly with your significant others, and you will be rewarded.  Meditation, mindfulness practices, and pranayama (conscious breathing) are good remedies.

On a positive note, Jupiter, the great benefic planet, aspects both Venus and Mercury in Pisces this month which adds spiritual support and helps us find creative solutions to some of the challenges that can surface this month in relationship and love.

Vedic Astrology for January 2017: BIG Changes as Saturn Moves Through Challenging ‘Spiritual Knot’

vedic astrology May 2015

January is a significant month of transformation, because powerful Saturn is changing signs, moving from watery Scorpio to fiery Sagittarius on the evening of January 26, 2017 (MST). Saturn is the slowest moving planet in Vedic astrology, taking approximately 2 ½ to 3 years to move through a sign, therefore it has great impact when it changes signs. In addition, Saturn will transit through the challenging gandata degrees this month, and especially intense energies may surface from January 16 through February 6, 2017, when Saturn transits 29 degrees Scorpio to 1 degree of Sagittarius.

Gandanta means a “spiritual knot,” and when planets pass through these junctures, moving from a water sign (in this case Scorpio) to a fire sign (Sagittarius), we are given opportunities for deeper soul growth if we choose. We must release old, ancient wounds and habitual patterns from the past that revolve around Saturn significations, or they will persist. If we can move through this important shift of Saturn with grace and non-resistance, there is the potential for significant personal healing and increased awareness on the planet.

From January 1 to January 26, Saturn will be completing its transit through the transformative sign of Scorpio. We can experience increased pressures to face our shadow, the unconscious/subconscious aspects of self, as we bring in more light. Saturn, being such a wise teacher planet, really wants us to evolve, and so exerts more tension on us, motivating us to quickly detach and release our fears, anxiety, and drama, so we can be a better witness to life.

With Saturn in Scorpio it is important not to blame others for things we’re responsible for, acknowledging our part in challenging situations. We may go through profound transformation in the process, or even a little upheaval, as we uproot strongholds of resistance. Intense feelings and emotions can surface during this process. We are uncovering our authentic self as we become more empowered.

Next, as Saturn transits the Jupiter-ruled sign of Sagittarius for three years, from January 26, 2017 to January 24, 2020, education, knowledge, ethics, and uncovering the deeper wisdoms of life will emerge. We become more realistic and practical, and we desire to transform beliefs that separate or polarize. We will welcome universal principles that uplift and inspire. The sign of Sagittarius loves truth and freedom, and so with Saturn there, we have the opportunity to to be more patient and tolerant of others’ beliefs.

The challenge with Saturn transiting Sagittarius can be a hesitancy to speak up or share our knowledge when needed, or others may want to impose their beliefs in a controlling manner. Frustrations arise when we experience life in a narrow, constricted way. Our ethics may be under scrutiny could be tested. This is a time to walk your talk!

To support this transformation, develop deeper heart connections with others, meditate and do pranayama (breath work). Follow your natural yearning to access a deeper purpose in your life. Ultimately, with increased clarity (Saturn) and a sense of fairness (Sagittarius), we can all make wiser decisions for our future.

Also at the end of January, Venus (planet of love, relationship, the arts, and healing) moves into Pisces, its exalted or best sign, on January 27, 2017. Venus will stay in Pisces a long time this year, over four months, from January 27 until May 30, 2017. This is because Venus will go retrograde in the sign of Pisces this spring. Allow the healing energies of Venus to bring more compassion, gentleness, and kindness into the world.  Life can be rather empty if our heart is closed, because we naturally desire more uplifting and loving connections with family and friends. Invite more devotional/spiritual content or creative expression into to your life, and connect to Venus by working with the heart chakra and honoring the Divine Feminine.

December Vedic Astrology: Mercury Retrograde, Winter Solstice & Untying Karmic Knots

vedic astrology May 2015

Venus (planet of love and relationship) moves into the sign of Capricorn on December 2 until December 28, 2016. Venus in the earth sign of Capricorn wants consistency and reliability in relationship, but also can be cautious and too controlling. Being comfortable with our vulnerability and sharing our hearts more freely without judgment are important lessons.

Venus joins exalted Mars (planet of initiative and energy) in Capricorn for a short period, from December 2 until December 11, and these two planets together bring a “passionate wiring” prompting the need to be creative, spontaneous, and inspired. But watch for occasional agitation.

On December 10, 2016, the Sun and Saturn transiting the fixed sign of Scorpio will conjunct at exactly 24 degrees, which can amplify and bring into focus the deeper issues of imbalance in our lives and in the world. Work on creating more reciprocal energies in your personal and work relationships. Be more authentic, and channel your energies into those areas of your life you feel will give you the greatest internal growth and self-expression, which then creates greater personal happiness.  You may feel motivated to become more organized and efficient at work and at home.

Mars (planet of action and courage) moves into the fixed sign of Aquarius on December 11, 2016 through January 19, 2017. Mars will join Ketu, the south node of the Moon, already in Aquarius.  These two pitta and fiery planets will eventually connect exactly at 11 degrees Aquarius on December 26 and 27, 2016, when their energies accelerate. This combination can bring feisty and argumentative behavior, with a tendency toward passive-aggressive expressions. The Ketu aspect on Mars creates more indirect and manipulative energy. We have to be more disciplined, focused, and straightforward with all the actions we take. Motives may be hidden, so take extra time to be clear with self and others, and try not to be impulsive. Mars and Ketu can also be accident-prone, so be mindful. We can feel uncomfortable and resist taking needed actions, while projecting this inner fear onto others.  Lessons surface about taking personal responsibility for what we do. This is a time to honor your courage and inner strength, and not give up. Realize how powerful you really are. Direct this energy toward your true goals with confidence and commitment.

On December 14 and 15, 2016, the Sun passes through the challenging gandanta degrees of 29 Scorpio and 0 Sagittarius, signifying the need to untie “karmic knots” or long-held blocks that revolve around the significations of the Sun. Remember that when planets pass through these junctures, between a water sign (Scorpio) and a fire sign (Sagittarius), we are given opportunities for deeper soul growth, freeing ourselves of old patterns that no longer serve us. Becoming aware of any fears or wrong beliefs that prevent you from deeply connecting to your soul (Sun) is recommended. Problems with our identity, self-esteem, career choices, or paternal relationships are held up for deeper reflection and can ultimately be transformed and healed. Then from December 15, 2016 until January 14, 2017, the Sun transits the fire sign of Sagittarius. The Sun in Sagittarius gives high idealism and humanitarian instincts. We dislike hypocrisy and want truth.

Mercury goes retrograde in the sign of Sagittarius on December 19, 2016 until January 8, 2017.  Be clear with all types of communications, double-check travel plans, and be prepared for any technical or computer issues. This is a positive time of review and inner reflection, perfect for the end of the year.

The winter solstice (in the northern hemisphere) occurs on December 21, 2016, which signals the rebirth of the Sun and the beginning of winter. This is the shortest day and longest night of the year. The solstice can be a magical and contemplative time, as we celebrate renewal, hope, and spiritual rebirth. Let go of old programming and irrational fears that do not serve us.  Offer respect and gratitude for the coming light and all you have been given this past year.  It is a powerful day for meditation, prayer, self-examination, and setting intentions, as we welcome a new beginning.

On Christmas day, December 25, Saturn in Scorpio aspects Venus in Capricorn exactly at 26 degrees. Stability and familiarity bring us more comfort now. We may revive old family traditions or rituals that previously had deep meaning for us, and that now bring a welcomed sense of connectedness and continuity. Let go of old frustrations and unrealistic expectations. Relax, and be more unconditional, flexible, and understanding with others.

Vedic Astrology for September: Heightened Sensitivity and New Revelations

vedic astrology May 2015

September marks the fall eclipse season with two eclipses – a solar eclipse on September 1, 2016 and a lunar eclipse on September 16, 2016. This means we can experience heightened sensitivity this month, along with possible new revelations, like divine messages, that helps us to get back on track, bringing us deeper healing and transformation.  Eclipses could be considered days of “spiritual initiation” and are wonderful days for deep inner work, insight, meditation, and prayer. Material or worldly pursuits are not recommended around eclipse days. Being in positive and supportive environments can be helpful during these events. These are times we need to be more mindful and focused, as occasionally we can feel more mentally confused or too emotionally stimulated around eclipses as sudden shifts can occur.

September 1, 2016 brings an early morning solar eclipse (new moon) at 15 degrees Leo in the creative nakshatra of Purva Phalguni. As this eclipse is in the strong sign of Leo, it brings an emphasis on our personal power – are we not standing up for ourselves or are we too over-bearing? Where does our “power” really come from? We may realize we need more creativity or self-expression in our work or in our lives. We are learning to open our hearts, to appreciate and inspire others and be helpful. The deity of Purva Phalguni is Bhaga (god of good fortune), so this eclipse helps us re-define what real prosperity is.  Watch for self-indulgence or impulsiveness.

On September 16, 2016 (12:05 PM PDT) a very significant and eventful lunar eclipse (full moon) occurs at 0 degrees Pisces in Purva Bhadrapada – quite a spiritual, idealistic, and intense nakshatra.  This eclipse can bring deep purification of self as we move toward a higher awareness. Performing activities that stabilize the mind and calm the emotions are positive. This eclipse nakshatra can have two opposing views or positions, so choose pure and enlightened goals. Try not to engage in critical or angry feelings, which is the shadow-side of Purva Bhadrapada.

In addition, during this lunar eclipse the Sun changes signs, which is called sakranti in Sanskrit, as the Sun moves from the sign of Leo to Virgo. This can indicate some type of significant “shift” is occurring – whether individually or globally. As it is the Sun transitioning – this means that on the outer level it can bring a change with a leader or in a government, but on a higher, inner level, the heart opens and a deeper soul-connection happens. This can manifest as a feeling of oneness and desire to service to humanity – with the Sun moving to the helpful and healing sign of Virgo.

Also, Mars (the planet of action, courage, frustration, anger, and forcefulness) will be transiting the critical degrees of 29 degrees Scorpio to 0 degrees of Sagittarius (called gandanta) on September 16, 17, and 18, right around the time of the September 16 lunar eclipse. This can bring heightened emotions and passionate or angry actions. This is a good opportunity to practice neutrality or equanimity and be calm. Gandanta means “knot,” and when planets pass through these junctures we are given opportunities for deeper soul growth by transmuting our wounds and old patterns. Knots are not always easy to untie, and so the transit of Mars through these degrees trigger past, ancient issues centering around anger and separatism that we must not resist but mentally shift, or the “knots” gets tighter.  The end result could ultimately be a higher, more authentic expression.

For the first few weeks of September, until the 18th, Venus (planet of love and relationship) will be in Virgo, its sign of debility or weakness (having been there since August 25). We may experience some criticalness with loved ones or issues surface around self-love as we demand perfection. So along with Venus in Virgo and the eclipse energies this month, it is best for everyone to choose love and compassion over selfishness and doubt. It’s recommended to do heart-felt activities and even work with the heart chakra. Diplomacy can be challenged until the 18th, but can be rectified once Venus moves into the friendly and harmonious sign of Libra from September 18 until October 13, 2016. Venus enjoys being in Libra, and so relating to others becomes smoother, more balanced, and peaceful. We also find it easier to negotiate or compromise with others.

At the beginning of the month, until September 21, Mercury is retrograde (having been so since August 30).  And on September 9 until October 3, Mercury will retrograde back into the sign of Leo where it joins Rahu, the north node of the Moon. Mercury with Rahu (a shadow planet) can bring a little more challenge for some to accurately perceiving the truth behind communications, the news, or with business endeavors. So do take a little more time to reflect and to evaluate circumstances and one’s own motivations. Use this time to meditate, go on retreat, and take some stimulating educational courses. Be clear and precise while talking with others, double-check travel plans, and back-up electronics. Mercury then goes direct on September 21, 2016, so projects now can slowly move forward with greater confidence. In addition, after October 3, when Mercury moves into its best sign of Virgo and away from Rahu, we experience even better discernment and more mental clarity.

Vedic Astrology for August: Much happening in August!

vedic astrology May 2015

August is a very busy month with some intense astrological activity, indicating major shifts, changes, and transformational events can be possible. This month presents a great opportunity to move through life’s stresses with strength and an enlightened perspective.

First, Jupiter, the great benefic planet of spirituality, wisdom, and finance, moves from the fire sign of Leo, to the earth sign of Virgo on August 11, 2016.  Jupiter will remain in Virgo until September 11, 2017. Jupiter stays in a sign a little over a year, so when Jupiter shifts signs it is quite significant. With Jupiter now in the practical earth sign of Virgo, we are not big risk-takers with our finances, but instead find value in organizing and developing realistic and efficient business plans. And as Virgo is a sign of seva or service, Jupiter here may motivate us to do charitable work, helping those in need which uplifts and inspires us. Environmental causes, alternative energy sources, sustainability, and growing organic food are areas of life that are favored as Jupiter travels through health-conscious Virgo. Our focus moves to educational goals, attaining knowledge, and connecting to our true vocation. We do need to watch out for occasional self-criticalness as well as a dose of perfectionism that can block our progress, as we want things pure.

Saturn, planet of discipline, focus and truth, goes direct on August 13, 2016, having been retrograde since March 25, 2016. While Saturn was retrograde in Scorpio, we were forced to honestly face our shadow-self and projections onto others, or we suffered. Now as Saturn moves direct, and hopefully with lessons learned concerning self-responsibility, we move through life with greater maturity, stability, and reliability. Showing respect to all and being dedicated and authentic in our work are positive qualities connected to Saturn.

On August 19, 2016 Mercury (planet of the intellect) transits Virgo, its sign of exaltation until September 9. During this time Mercury will be with Jupiter which will amplify interest in educational or mental pursuits. Taking writing courses, journalism, or getting published may be an interest. Mercury in Virgo can give us deeper insight into life, and the ability to be more discerning in our choices. Our speech and writings become very inspiring and influential.

A major planetary event occurs when Mars and Saturn in Scorpio conjunct (meet) exactly at 15 degrees on August 22, 23, and 24, 2016. These two planets are “enemies” to each other, so watch for increased volatility, and frustrations rising around this time. Mars in its own sign of Scorpio is quite strong and intense. Mars wants immediate action and self-expression, but Saturn can restrict or delay the assertive energies of Mars, a planet that does not like being held back. Watch for an amplification of anger and making impulsive decisions that you later regret. Refusing to change or shift one’s views out of fear or anxiety is possible. But if motivated by pure intention and strong will, we can rise above these barriers with greater understanding and vision. Positive ways to work with the Saturn/Mars energy are to find healthy outlets for this excessive build-up of energy, such as through physical activity like yoga or tai chi, or even through the creative arts. Allow grace, clarity, and more light to enter your life. Raise your vibration through meditation or mindfulness practices. Know that your actions do matter and have great impact. Be with uplifting people or read inspirational literature. See your purpose as creating peace and kindness in the world.  Forgiveness is one of the best things we can do during this time, as when we truly forgive – we release ourselves of burdens of pain and fear, and then we realize we cannot attack or harm another being.

Venus goes into Virgo, its sign of debility, the very next day after the Saturn/Mars conjunction, on August 25 until September 18, 2016. Venus will then join exalted Mercury and Jupiter already there. Venus in Virgo is learning to be less mental in its approach to love and relationship. This is a time to keep our hearts open, or we can become too critical and analytical. During the time Mercury is with Venus in Virgo (from August 25 to September 9), the debility of Venus is lessened, which helps us to be more loving and supportive of others. In addition, from August 25 until September 18, 2016, the meeting of the two teacher planets, Jupiter and Venus occurs in Virgo. Jupiter is the teacher of the gods, and Venus is the teacher of the demons in Vedic mythology. This combination presents us with an opportunity to learn and gain understandings (hopefully peacefully) from two different perspectives or levels of awareness. Let the higher energies of this connection help us work together intelligently in this era of increased and extreme polarity that we all feel in the world today.

Toward the end of August, Mars (planet of assertiveness, action, courage) in Scorpio will aspect Ketu (south node of the Moon) in Aquarius, exactly at 18 degrees on August 28 and 29, 2016. This is a time to be extra careful, as it can create overly excitable emotions and thoughts. This is a time to cool down, be patient and non-reactive. Do peaceful activities and be in positive, uplifting environments are remedial measures.

Mercury begins its retrograde phase in Virgo on August 30, 2016 until September 21, 2016.  During the retrograde phase it’s a good time to review plans, research new ideas, and double-check all communications and travel plans. Choose your words carefully and communicate intelligently. Clean out closets and re-organize your home.

And finally, the fall eclipse season begins in the early morning hours of September 1, 2016 at 2:03 AM (PDT), with a solar eclipse at 15 degrees in the fiery sign of Leo in the fierce nakshatra of Purva Phalguni. This is the first of the two eclipses occurring in September (the other one is on September 16). Eclipses are catalysts, and can bring increased awareness and insight. Things may be revealed now that we had ignored or hidden, in order to heal and transform. Do not to fear eclipses, but know they can bring significant changes into one’s life. With this eclipse in Purva Phalguni nakshatra (whose deity is Bhaga, the god of fortune) we become more aware that to really appreciate life, we must share with those we love, and be generous to those in need. The shadow of this nakshatra is over-indulgence, narcissism, and pride. Maybe this is an opening to re-define our values and sensibilities. During an eclipse it is best to be in a peaceful, healing environment as we can feel heightened sensitivity. Ultimately, eclipses are for focusing on our spiritual self, and embracing the light within.

Vedic Astrology for October: Jupiter & Venus in Leo Highlight Romantic & Creative Opportunities Plus Spiritual Awareness

vedic astrology May 2015

By Debra Infante

We begin October with three planets, Jupiter, Mars, and Venus, transiting the sign of Leo, giving much emphasis on this sign the entire month. Jupiter has been in Leo since 7-13-15, and Mars since 9-15-15, but now Venus travels again through the sign of Leo from 9-30-15 until 11-2-15. Venus was previously in retrograde motion in Leo beginning last July 25, and later moved back into the sign of Cancer, and it now travels direct again through Leo the entire month of October. All three of these planets (Jupiter, Mars, and Venus) in Leo will be aspected by Saturn in Scorpio, so this can indicate that the naturally expansive and dramatic nature of Leo will be tempered by the practicality and honesty of Saturn.

Venus in Leo brings generosity, loyalty, kindness, and creativity, but excessive pride and the need to be acknowledged and validated in love and relationship may also manifest at this time. Our egos can be very tied to our expression of love, so watch for issues surfacing around control and possessiveness. Mars in Leo is quite strong, giving self-confidence, assertiveness, and increased passion. We take more direct action and want quick responses, which can give rise to competitiveness and impatience.

Venus and Mars will travel closely together in Leo, especially during the last half of October, when this conjunction will amplify the passionate, intense, and creative energies of this combination. In addition, these two planets can bring arguments or frustrations to the surface. Do become more aware of the roots of your strong desires, and how it affects your perceptions of life and love. The Saturn aspect on Venus and Mars can temper some of the passion, but also help us to move more consciously in love, seeing the deeper, self-responsibility we have in all our interactions with others. Saturn will exactly aspect Venus at 7 degrees Leo on October 9 and 10, so this is a strong time to work with compassion for self, while keeping the heart open.

Mercury, planet of communications and the intellect, goes direct October 9, around 8 AM (MST) in Virgo, its sign of exaltation. Mercury exactly conjuncts Rahu (north node of the Moon) at 6 degrees at the time it goes direct. Exalted Mercury with Rahu can promote great mental capabilities and communication skills, and interest in unusual and alternative subjects. But this combination can also bring cloudy thinking and some mental anxiety. Use your mind in positive ways, meditate, and be centered. Mercury will be at 15 degrees Virgo (its exact degree of exaltation) on October 19 and 20, and remains in Virgo until October 29, 2015.

Jupiter, the great benefic, will also be traveling with Mars this month which increases our energy levels, vitality, enthusiasm, and confidence. Jupiter will conjunct Mars exactly at 19 and 20 degrees of Leo, from October 15-18, 2015. This combination also brings increased desires, competitiveness, and an expanded, ambitious nature.

Jupiter also travels with Venus again in Leo, and these two planets conjunct exactly at 21 degrees Leo on October 25, 2015. This same conjunction occurred last August 3-5, and so we experience these two teacher planets together again creating a dwi-guru yoga (Jupiter is the teacher of the gods, Venus is the teacher of the demons). This is a wonderful time to expand our knowledge and promote spiritual awareness. We also may experience a strong need to socialize and enjoy the company of others. Jupiter and Venus can increase romantic opportunities, as well as promote artistic, creative, and healing activities. But watch for over-doing things or being too self-indulgent. Practice generosity and kindness.

Note: Vedic astrology, the astrology from India, uses the sidereal zodiac, the zodiac of the fixed stars, which is based on a more accurate astronomical view of the planets in the sky.

Vedic Astrology for September: Increased Awareness, Personal Creative Power, Deeply Transformative Time

vedic astrology May 2015By Debra Infante

September promises to be a very active and intense month astrologically, with two eclipses, Mars moving out of debility, Venus going direct, and Mercury retrograde.

First, Venus goes direct on September 6, 2015, after being retrograde since July 25. While Venus was retrograde we re-examined relationships and the validity of our value system. Now as Venus moves forward, and with greater perspective, we begin to integrate and live the truth of what really matters in love and life.

Next, the fall eclipse season begins, with a solar eclipse on Sept 12-13, followed by a total lunar eclipse on September 27. It is important not to fear eclipses, but know that they can eventually bring significant changes or circumstances into one’s life. Eclipses can be enlightening, bringing increased awareness, by revealing things we need to see that had been previously ignored or hidden. These are times we need to be more mindful and focused, as sometimes we can feel more mentally confused or too emotionally stimulated. Being in a peaceful, healing environment is also recommended. Eclipses are not positive days for performing mundane activities, such as signing contracts. Ultimately, eclipses help us to face the unknown, and embrace the light within us and within our world.

The solar eclipse (new moon) occurs either on September 12, 2015 at 11:40 PM (PDT) or on September 13, 2015 at 2:40 AM (EDT) – depending on your time zone. This eclipse is at 26 degrees Leo in the fierce nakshatra of Purva Phalguni. Being in the sign of Leo brings an emphasis on our personal power, self-expression, and creativity. Are we being a good example or inspirational to others, or are we over-bearing? With the eclipse in the creative and social nakshatra of Purva Phalguni (whose deity is Bhaga, the god of fortune), this motivates us to enjoy and share with those we love. Be kind, humble, generous, and less self-indulgent.

Mars finally moves out of Cancer, its sign of debility, on September 15, 2015. But as it moves from the latter degrees of the water sign of Cancer into the first few degrees of the fire sign of Leo (called gandanta), this can signal a challenging or deeply transformative time, especially around healing issues related to Mars, such as impatience, anger, assertiveness, frustration, and courage. This is a time to face our shadow and move through it. The period from September 11 through 20 is a more vulnerable and sensitive time, so practice self-care and compassion.

Mercury goes retrograde September 17 to October 9, 2015, in its exalted sign of Virgo. Mercury retrograde periods can be expressed more internally, as we feel more pre-occupied with our own thoughts. This is especially a great time for deeper self-analysis as Mercury is transiting the precise and detail-oriented sign of Virgo. Your meditation practice may be more rewarding. But being too self-critical could be a challenge. With the north node, Rahu, conjunct retrograde Mercury, this is a time to be extra diligent and honest with all communications or misunderstandings could be the outcome. Double-check travel plans. Creative endeavors (right-brained activities) such as painting and music are positive outlets now. Mercury retrograde periods are good for reviewing things, organizing your office, and revisiting areas of your life that need to be changed.

The total lunar eclipse (full moon) occurs on September 27 at 7:50 PM (PDT) at 10 degrees Pisces, in the fixed nakshatra of Uttara Bhadrapada. Also, retrograde Mercury will be influencing this lunar eclipse as it is conjunct the Sun and opposite the Moon, indicating a need to be even more discerning, objective, and calm with our thinking and communications. With the eclipse in the water sign of Pisces, as well as being in the nakshatra of Uttara Bhadrapada, whose deity is Ahirbudhnya (the serpent of the deep, connected to kundalini energy), intense buried emotions can surface for healing and transformation if we are ready. By cultivating patience and accepting all the cycles of life, this can shift us to a more neutral and peaceful place. Remember, in Vedic culture the actual day of an eclipse is positive to perform one’s spiritual practice or sadhana, or any other healing practices that stabilize the mind and open the heart.
