20 Effective Ways to Clear and Protect Against Negative Energy

Clearing Negative Energy

By Banu Sekendur | Wake Up World

We live in a world of duality, as it is intended to be. This means that there is good and bad as well as right and wrong. This yin-yang theory exists within and without. The reason why the earth plane is a great school for a soul’s expansion is this very reason. If there was no duality, there would be no pain, no joy, no variety, and no growth.

This basically means that there are people and energies that we encounter who offer us the lessons we need while we walk our path here. At times, this fact simply points to learning how to work with, clear and protect against negative energy. I find it to be a lot like a video game, actually. Maybe earth life is our Dungeons and Dragons field. We get better at the game as we keep playing it.

Though this article is mostly for HSP (Highly Sensitive People), empaths and intuitive, it applies to everyone walking on this planet. Anyone can be affected by lower energies, especially during times of high-stress and transition. Sometimes we attract, receive and absorb lower energies from people or in our environment. This is part of the game and going through those experiences help us expand as individuals and souls. That’s the story I am sticking with anyway. Your guess is as good as mine since we all experience amnesia as we incarnate.

What Are Some of the Signs That You Have Picked Up Negative Energies?

  • You may get dropped calls, or a sudden, passing static on your phone while speaking to someone at a location where you don’t normally have that experience.
  • You may start feeling depressed out of the blue (!) and you’re not clinically depressed.
  • Suddenly, you can’t log into your bank account (or any other online account) and keep getting an error message even though your internet connection seems to be strong.
  • You get extremely tired all of a sudden and feel the need to take a nap even though you are not sleep-deprived.
  • You feel resistant to helping yourself, or giving yourself something you know you need (i.e. You may resist eating when you are actually hungry).
  • Your throat feels sore as if you’ve caught a flu virus (sometimes that is how our body reacts to the lower energy).
  • You lose your house keys or your wallet, lock your car keys inside your car, or have something you value stolen.
  • An email you sent out does not reach its intended recipient and hours later you get a mailer daemon message.
  • All of a sudden, your mind starts spinning on negative thoughts about someone or a situation of the past (which you had done inner work on to clear), etc. No matter how hard you try to wave them off, they stick to you like chewing gum on asphalt under 90 degrees.
  • You engage in behaviors that are against self-love, such as spending money on unnecessary shopping, when you don’t have the budget for it, etc. This is especially valid if it is out of character for you to do so.

The possibilities are endless, so ultimately it’s up to each of us to recognize and make note of these patterns, as they are personal. It took me several years to recognize what happens to me when I am affected by lower energies. Experiencing a combination of these on the same day, or in a short amount of time – especially if they are not regular occurrences – can help you see what is happening. It becomes clearer as you learn to tune-in your awareness.

Once I recognize that I have picked up lower energies, I use several of the methods (described below) together, to clear my mind, body, and energy field of this lower vibration. No one deserves to plug into your energy, and you have the right to command that they leave you alone. The reverse is also true, even if it is unintentional.

Here are 20 Techniques That Work to Clear Lower Energies, Especially If You Combine Several of them:

1. Set a strong intention to clear these energies

Place both hands on your heart and say your intention out loud. You can write it on a piece of paper and burn it in addition to voicing it. Repeat your intention a few times. We gain and lose a lot of power from our throat chakra. Use your voice for clearing and protection.

2. Yawn away the negative energy

Yawning is said to be a great tool for clearing. You may not feel like yawning but if you start doing the yawning motion and acting as if you are very tired and need to take a nap, you may be surprised to find that the yawning continues. You can do this right after you set the intention mentally and feel a strong resistance against using your voice to call on your power and for divine help.

3. Play drums or drum music in the background

If you don’t have a drum at home, don’t fret. Youtube has many videos of shamanic, African or Native American drum music. Find one that you like and start playing that in the background while you apply some of the techniques mentioned here. If this doesn’t appeal to you, then go to a wooden desk or table you have and start drumming with your hands.

4. Use a smudge stick

White Sage is the most well-known herb used for this clearing technique, but a bunch of dried Rosemary, Cedar, Mugwart or Sweetgrass (cut from your garden) all work well too – see here. Light the smudge stick and when you have a good flame, blow it out, and using the smoke, start with your body. Circle all seven of your chakras and all of your outer energy field. Don’t forget the bottom of your feet. As you go through each chakra, pull your arm away from that area (as if you’re pulling a scarf off of your neck with one hand).

Once you’ve smudged your body, taking necessary precautions against dropping hot embers as you go, using the power of your intention, go around the entire room (or the whole house) with the smudge stick in your hand still smoldering, making sure you get into all the corners and under furniture. Open one (or several) windows for the smell and the lower energies to leave the space as you command them out mentally or with your voice! If you have money issues (especially if it popped up that day or very recently), clear your purse or wallet with the smoke as well. If your computer is acting up or you’re getting bounced email messages, clear your computer too. Electronics get effected fast and this serves as an indication that you have picked up negative energy.

20 Effective Ways to Clear and Protect Against Negativity

5. Say a clearing and protection prayer/mantra

Here is an example:

I, (insert your full name), refuse permission for any living and non-physical being to enter my body, mind, soul, spirit and energy field for intentions that are other than love. I break all contracts, vows and agreements I might have made knowingly or unknowingly in all time, space, and dimension that in any way diminish the fullest expression of my joyful soul essence. I break these agreements from this moment backwards, through every experience of my past, and from this moment forward until the end of all time. I command that these energies and people to leave my space NOW! They have no power over me. I ask for divine protection from these energies, that they NOT return to my energy field in any way, and for any reason. I now build a shield of light around me with this heart intention and my free will. I thank you that it’s already done.

As with some of the other techniques mentioned, you may have to repeat this several times and must say it out loud. You can even place your right hand over your throat gently to feel the vibration as you say this prayer. Feel free to modify this prayer to your liking. Nothing is cast in stone.

6. Use a rattle to break up the energy into a zillion small pieces

Just like the drums, if you don’t have a rattle, put some pennies in an empty plastic drink bottle (or topper-ware) and shake it in a way what feels right to you. It’s more effective if you move around in your space while you’re doing this.

7. Burn lemon or orange peels

Use a cheese grater to get some peels and throw them into a non-stick pan to cook for a short time. Do this as if you’re sauteing onions. The smell is very pleasant and uplifting. It will fill up your space to repel any lower energies that may be lurking in it.

8. Laugh it off

Laughter is not only the best medicine for sickness but it is a very effective tool for clearing lower energy. Joy is the highest vibration there is, so it works beautifully for canceling out lower vibrations. You probably won’t feel like laughing when under the influence of these negative energies. So, pull up some funny videos on Youtube to watch. I have a handful of favorite comedians whose bits make me laugh out loud. Some examples are Wanda Sykes, Jim Gaffigan, Louie C.K., Chris Rock, Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres, and Aziz Ansari to name a few. No doubt you have your favorites too.

9. Light a candle

One candle should be enough (you can light more than one if that feels right) with the intention that the flame absorbs and melts away these lower energies. I use white emergency candles that I keep handy at home for this purpose and sometimes let it burn all the way till it’s all gone. Then I throw it in the garbage. You can also bury it somewhere in your yard. Before buying candles, please be cautious about where your candles are manufactured.

10. Use sea salt

Genuine sea salt can be expensive. I use it symbolically and don’t use a lot of it. It’s all about intention. The placebo effect works for a reason! You can sprinkle some into warm water, mix it well and drink it. Or you can draw a hot bath and put a few tablespoons of it in the tub to soak in. If you don’t have a bathtub, you can take a shower. In both cases, set the intention that the water will pull away from the negative energy as it goes over your body and into the drain, back to mother earth to be cleared.

11. Create an ‘attractor’ for lower energies

Pour a glass of water and set the intention that lower energies that are in your field will be absorbed by this water. Keep the glass filled with water until your energy feels clear and free. Then pour the water in the toilet and flush it, or pour it out in the yard for the lower energy to be transformed back into love by mother earth.

20 Ways to Clear Negative Energies - Skip Like a Child

12. Skip like a child

As I mentioned above, joy is the highest vibration there is. Skip like a child for a minute or longer to counter the depressive or angry thoughts (or the sudden negative emotional state you got into). This is great to do on a regular day when you wake up grumpy or with a bad dream that you can’t shake off.

13. Clap Your Hands

Sound can be created by any tool, including your hands. Clapping works beautifully, especially when combined with singing a fun tune, a joyful song or whistling. Walk around your space while clapping, and you can also skip while you’re doing this. Any (or all three combined) will raise your vibration and repel negative energies so you can be free to experience joy again.

14. Dance it off

I guarantee you, if you dance to “Love Shack” or “Footloose”, it will be hard to keep your negative mood or these lower energies attached to you. This is perfect if you like to dance. Make a playlist for times like these and throw a few of your favorite songs into it to dance to.

A few ideas for protection…

15. Engage with the protection prayer (#5) regularly

Repeat the prayer in the morning an at night (or even in between). Another idea is to hand-write it and keep it in your wallet or the dashboard of your car. You can also write it in the back of a happy photograph of you ( as a child or as an adult) that you keep by your bed. It’s not narcissistic, it’s self-love.

16. Use pine for protection

Cut off a small piece of pine needle branch (size of your hand will suffice) from a pine tree and put it in a vase or a glass of water. Once you’ve done the clearing by using the methods above, set the intention that the pine needles repel and intimidate these lower energies so they don’t come back. If you’re in a vulnerable stage in your life, keep it around for a while. Give thanks and love to the pine for letting you benefit from its protective energy. Replenish the water every other day as a way to care for and respect the pine for its service.

17. Watch your words, actions, and karma

This is very important. Sometimes when we are stressed or upset with someone, we don’t pay attention to our thoughts, words or actions, and may send out negative energy to others. It may feel good at the time but it opens us up for lower energies to enter our field. Like attracts like. If you are obsessing on negative feelings or thoughts about someone (deserving or undeserving) and do not exercise your free will to distract yourself from thinking, feeling or wishing badly, the boomerang effect will show up in your life. Maybe not the next day but eventually it will. I experienced this with great regret! The best thing to do is to ask your ‘higher self’ to make you aware of those times when you need to pull yourself up from these thoughts and feelings. This is when you can use laughter to clear them away. What we give out, we receive!

18. Find ways to counter stress

Stress is a part of everyday life, but if it is ongoing and you do nothing to diffuse it with relaxation, exercise, dance, art, a fun activity or meaningful connections, you will be more susceptible to discordant, lower energies attaching to you. Do your best to make rest, relaxation, a healthy diet and laughter a priority, even for 5 minutes a day to keep your energy strong.

19. Make figure eight movements for aura strengthening

You can combine this with the drum music playing in the background. Rotate around as you move both arms in a figure eight motion – as if you are an orchestra conductor. Start from the ground and go up as you keep rotating and go back down towards the floor. Make sure you cover all four directions. Do this for at least one minute or longer to strengthen your aura.

20. Adopt a Tree!

Yes, you can adopt a tree in a local park, or on a walking trail – one that calls to you – then make it yours. Lean against that tree for at least 15 minutes and ask it to pull out anything in your energy field and body that is of vibration less than love. It works! I can guarantee you that if you build a relationship with it, talk to it and give it heartfelt thanks, you will be able to clear away anything in a short amount of time, and leave the tree feeling light, uplifted and loved.

Remember: You Can Alchemize Anything!

I’ve been coming up against a very oppressive type of ‘authoritarian’ energy lately.  I am also seeing my friends and family going through similar experiences, so, perhaps you’ve been feeling it too?

Authority normally scares the crap out of me but I’m going to let you in on how I’ve been dealing with it this week (and quite effectively I might add). But first, allow me my rant…

The End of the Webbed Romance?

There’s a lot of bullying going on.  I’ve been hearing about Facebook taking down business pages left, right and center with no warning or notice — I really feel for the people left in this wake with no explanation but an automated response and no way to effectively contact the ‘untouchable hotshots’.

I hear that YouTube is also exercising their right to do as they please and people are losing income streams thick and fast.

My Yahoo mail account wants me to consent to having them poke around/share all my private info or my account gets taken away. What’s next — micro-chipping wrists or you can’t access your bank account? How very 666 of you, darling!

Cheers! Thanks y’all, it’s been real (ummm…cyber-real which isn’t very real at all now, is it?).

And All Pinocchio Wanted to Be Was a Real Boy

We did without these social platforms for most of our lives (barring the millennials) and we got on great.

The way I see it is that all these big social media sites and companies are helping us to let go and go do real things in the real world like the real people we are.

They may not know it but all the BS, all the privacy violations, all the unacceptable terms and agreements may actually be steering us back to our humanity — or at least allowing for a pause so we can come up for air and take a look around. Who knows, maybe some of us won’t bury our heads so easily anymore.

Technology is fun but too much of it can suck the life out of us and rob us of quality moments. I promise you there was life pre-internet and there will be life post-internet.

Rainbows, Lights, Tunnels and Cotton Candy

As my paranoid, suspicious mind flourished in light of all the injustice, I remembered:

Life is meaningless until you assign it meaning (either neutral, positive or negative).

I decided to alchemize it and set forth to visualize my preferred outcome. Read related article: Why ‘The Echo’ is Important on Your Evolutionary Path

Here’s my advice if you feel a little snowed under with negative, oppressive energy:

  • Focus your intent on how you want to see something happen instead of worrying about how it may negatively transpire.
  • Take action where you can.
  • Wake up every morning stating how fricking fantastic this day is going to be and how everything is going to go just right.
  • When you feel overwhelmed remember the 2 magic statements: ‘This too shall pass’ and ‘All is well’.
  • Keep your cool. Try meditating. Balance is essential in steering a positive attitude and emitting a high-oscillating frequency.
  • You’re never given anything you can’t handle. You’re really quite powerful.
  • Nothing can touch you — you are a God-sovereign being. There is no death and you are eternal. What’s the problem?
  • Nothing is quite as bad as it seems. Have a cry, rant or steam over a challenge if you must but remember to look for the good.

Go sit in nature and ground yourself. Read related article: How to Use Your Heart Wisdom

Whatever is happening can be alchemized — alchemy is turning base metal into gold and you can turn any situation into gold when you mine it right.

When I looked at my circumstance from a different perspective I realized that all was indeed well.  I couldn’t be happier.  I’m going to be like Fernando and sit under a tree smelling the daisies and enjoying this beautiful playground of a planet.

5 Ways to Stop Absorbing Negative Energy from Others

By Anna Hunt | Waking Times

With empathy, the ability to recognize and feel other people’s emotions, comes the disadvantage of also absorbing the suffering and negativity of the others around you. When this occurs, your ability to function at your best can be significantly impacted. Even a person who is not so empathic can be affected energetically when around negative or dramatic people.

Absorbing other people’s negative energy can be just as toxic on a person as ingesting unhealthy food, and perhaps even more noticeably draining. Thus, learning how to stop this from happening can be a valuable skill. Here are five methods that you can use so you absorb less negative energy from others around you.

1) Be Selective About the People You Allow into Your Life

You have to come to terms that not everyone will like you, and you don’t have to become friends with everyone that you meet. You do not need to pressure yourself into befriending everyone you meet, either at work, though existing friends, or via your kids. Of course you want to be polite, but trust your intuitionwhen meeting new people and don’t ever feel like you need to spend time with people just because you’ve come to know them by association.

Furthermore, if you find yourself often needing to vent about a person, have a friend that is consistently negative about life, or feel like someone in your life is regularly taking advantage of you or is unkind to you, then perhaps it is time to create some distance. Some friendships or relationships are just not good for you, and you have to be able to accept that. Once you do, you can let go of the friends and acquaintances who dump their negativity on you.

Learning to let go and saying “no” to people who do not deserve your time and attention allows you more time for the ones that do, including your family and YOURSELF.

2) Don’t Try Please Everyone

We all have only so many hours in one day, so be selective about who receives your time. Don’t waste it on people who don’t seem to care about you, give you a hard time, or are overly critical of you. Just as you won’t like certain individuals, there will be some that don’t like you or do not treat you kindly.

Focus on developing relationships that seem to thrive naturally, versus working on getting people to like you who naturally don’t gravitate to you. The latter will not only leave you drained, they will probably affect how you perceive yourself.

3) Beware of Energy Vampires

As already mentioned, you may have existing friends that are always negative about life, but consider that some people are can be even more toxic. These types could be dubbed energy vampires because they suck you dry of all positive energy and leave you with all their negativity. That is what keeps themgoing.

Beware of energy vampires who always use negative words and dump negative emotions onto you. Notice which “friends” use pessimistic language or treat you like a soundboard for their negative feelings. You are likely absorbing all of their negativity every time you see them.

This doesn’t mean stop being there for a friend in need, but pay attention to the ones that take advantage of a kind ear or are inclined to always use negative language. Let them know how you feel about all the pessimism. If these “friends” don’t understand that they are draining you, then perhaps they are not really your friends.

4) Be Responsible for Yourself

You are the only person that has control over how you feel. In any situation, you have the choice of how you react and what you do. Some say it takes years of training to control your feelings, but it all starts with awareness, which you can practice right now.

Taking responsibility for yourself means that you have to start becoming aware of how you feel when certain people are around you. And then are not afraid to take action. If you spend time with someone who makes you feel bad or leaves you drained, it is time to create some distance between you and that person.

Don’t be a victim, because you have the power of how you experience life. You will absorb more goodness and less negativity if you really reflect on how people, places and situations make you feel, and then take action to change what does not serve you.

5) Spend Time Alone

For some reason the Western society has come to denigrate personal characteristics such as introversion, shyness, timidity, etc. However, time alone, and the personal discovery that happens during this time, can be quite healing and regenerating.

For some, solitude is quite difficult as it is a time when a person starts to really look at what’s happening with their own self. Yet it is necessary if you are to cultivate the awareness you need to identify when you absorb negative energy and who in your life is an energy vampire.

Remember simple tools such as breathing slowly, quiet meditation, reading a good book, and spending time in nature. They are all available to you so you can enjoy solitude. Use these tools when you are ready to take action to rid yourself of unwanted energetic toxicity and reinforce yourself for yet another day.

10 Ways to Stop Dropping Into Habitual Negative Emotions

Woman taking notes on a train-compressed

By Lisa Foreman | Elephant Journal

Personal growth is a contest of endurance and will.

In order to be able to move forward and make progress physically, emotionally and spiritually, we need to find a way to clear the negative energy first. I like to describe personal growth in terms of a marathon, because although there are sprints here and there to gain ground quickly, overall it is about consistency, commitment and courage in the face of challenges.

Picture running that marathon in bulky sweats, a weighted vest and heavy boots. How far would we get before we quit or our progress slowed to a painful pace with us burdened by all the negative emotions and thoughts? I do not believe it is the suffering itself that prompts our growth, but how we use it to learn. So, if we do not have to run our race shackled and encumbered, why would we?

Logically, it is easy to conclude that we will make better progress if we can shuck the negativity and exchange it for mindfulness and joy. Unfortunately, this change in our state does not come from the brain or logic, otherwise we would just decide and it would magically shift. It takes awareness and a plan to transcend this, so let’s talk strategy.

The first step to breaking free is awareness that we are in a negative or anxious state. Each individual has their own “tells,” such as increased heart rate, body pain, irritability, or sadness—all of which are usually accompanied by cycles of negative thoughts that may or may not be true. Some of our self-defeating behaviors are so ingrained that they may not disappear, but having an awareness of them can activate our clearing strategies.

Once we are aware of our triggers, we can design a system(s) to overcome. We are all resilient once we recognize that we have the power to choose our state. We are not victims; we are warriors. Each person needs to develop their own method, but here are some suggestions:

1. Music: I know my favorite songs can lift my spirits quickly. Whether the beat resonates with some inner rhythm or the song reminds you of wonderful memories, music can bring a smile to your face and remind you of happy times and what you did to create them.

2. Self care rituals: There are numerous self care strategies, but here I am referring to all the small rituals that bring some order to the chaos of our lives. Things such as preparing meals ahead of time so that we can fuel our bodies well, scheduling time for our own activities, and organizing/cleaning our home/work environment. These practices can clear negative energy and help prevent its build up.

3. Exercise: I can’t stress enough how much my weight training sessions restore my calm as I allow negative emotions and thoughts to be “used up” during my exertion. I like to visualize my burdens as fuel to move my body, and like any fuel source they dissipate. I use heavy lifting for this, but yoga or any other physically challenging activity will work as well.

4. Quiet time: Whether time is spent in meditation, prayer, visualization or taking a quick nap,  we all need time away from the busy and frantic to slow down and require less of our body and minds.

5. Journaling: Pouring out our thoughts and emotions on paper or into a digital format is cathartic. It is clarifying and healing to admit and see where our struggles are, which returns us to awareness. Seeing a problem, whether real or imagined, enables our minds to start working on solutions.

4 Ways to Use Drama to Your Ultimate Advantage

Tree Figures by Cherie Roe Dirksen

When I Was a Wallflower…

Last weekend I found myself in a bustling local pub doing door-takings for my husband’s band. To cut a long evening short, I overheard things — whilst sitting out on the venues veranda — that would make your toes and hair curl simultaneously.

I woke up the next morning wishing for a mind wipe (I know and have to interact with most of these locals — it’s a small town!).

It’s an interesting life being the wife of a musician. You get to go to all the gigs and meet a lot of versatile, interesting, fun people…and, of course, let’s not leave out the cutting-edge weirdo’s!

Then there are the bolsimus.

I’m Adding Bolsimus to Wikipedia

What’s a bolsimus?

It’s an acronym I coined that stands for ‘Bored Of Life So I Make Up Stuff’ (kind of like what I just did there with this acronym!).

These bolsimus people are like dynamite. They’re easy to set off and cause havoc in their wake — ‘cause let’s face it, they’re just plain bored. What else is there to do that’s fun (how about get a hobby? Or grow up? #JustSaying)?

They tend to thrive off drama, upset and sometimes even pain (especially yours).

They are usually ruled by the ego and have a fertile imagination (which can be a very dangerous breeding ground for utter nonsense). Most of what they do serves to elevate their agenda and self-righteousness and defame you.

The worst case scenario: They think what they’re doing is justified, true (somehow they convince themselves of their own bullsh*t) and morally acceptable. Nein!

They get so would up in their drama and what they think is happening (through assumption —  to ‘assume’ definitely makes an ‘ass out of u and me’) that they isolate and destroy many a relationship.

I bore witness to this with my own eyes on that fateful evening. It truly amazed me to see the levels some people would go to to create a full-on stage production — drama 101.

The Bombshell

I heard a lot of ‘big’ talk (*rolling my eyes*), had to snigger at some intoxicated conversations (I’m only human), cringed at the level of detail some people went into at the top of their voices and witnessed some overt displays of immoral depravity whilst goggling at the gall of the most anti-social behavior.

The energy, at best, was helter skelter.

As I said before, I woke up the next morning feeling shell-shocked. I was trying to piece together what I’d heard and learnt and was drawing blanks.

I sat staring at my wall for about 2 hours, mouth open. What was the universe trying to tell me? Besides wanting to hop on the next UFO to get the hell out of here!

Okay, so this is what I eventually fathomed from this evening of gay frivolity:

You can actually thrive from other people’s dramas. Not in the way you may think however but by seeing and clearly acknowledging as the ‘silent’ witness:

  1. What you don’t want to be a part of or create in your life,
  2. what drama inevitably does to warp your relationships and alienate those who actually love and care for you,
  3. how sad it all is because most drama is made up — it doesn’t exist but in your own fantasy world and
  4. that you have a choice to engage or to cut off the ties that bind.

What in the name of the woolly mammoth do people get off on by creating such discord? I may never know the answer but what I do know is this: I don’t want to be a part of it!

I want harmony not discord!

Duck! Incoming…*Boom*

I want to be that mallard in Eckhart Tolle’s book, A New Earth.

Related article: 27 Life Changing Lessons to Learn From Eckhart Tolle

He spoke of seeing two ducks having a face-off. Once they had parted ways, he witnessed the one duck fluffing and shaking out his feathers as if to eradicate the negative energy of the confrontation. Then he swam off on his merry way and it was all over.

The duck didn’t keep looking back or feel it necessary to quack profanities from across the lake.

Why can’t we all take a feather out of this analogy?

We’re probably all going to be continuously tested on some level or another (no matter how much we think we’ve evolved or how enlightened we may be) — to be sucked into drama or not to be sucked into drama.

Thing is, it’s up to us to deal with it — shake our little tail feathers just keep swimming, swimming, swimming (thanks, Dori!).

So, next time you’re faced with an amateur dramatics enlistment, will you be able to detach and extricate yourself from the dynamite of an explosive situation and/or person before you get blown up?

Oh and BTW — a good, long, hot soak in the tub (with a few drops of lavender, sage, rose or frankincense essential oil and/or a cup of Epsom salts/Himalayan salt) and a half hour detachment/chord cutting meditation (if you don’t know how to do this, there’s a link to a great Doreen Virtue meditation you can use below) helped me iron out the creases of my shattered psyche from that evenings shenanigans.

A New Year & New Positive Energy: How To Remove Old Negative Energies In Your Home For Health & Well Being

By Norma Lehmeier Hartie | Esoteric, Metaphysical, Spiritual Database

energy clearing positive energy well being

Every time you clean your home you are removing negative energy. Cleaning your home or workspace will make it lighter and more positive. This is a result of organizing, of ridding yourself of things you no longer need and removing toxic products from your environment. Just opening windows brings in fresh, positive energy. Other space clearing techniques include dowsing; smudging with herbs or incense; clearing with bells, cymbals and singing bowls; and clearing with chanting.

No matter what method or methods you chose to clear negative or disturbed energies, always clear mindfully and without distractions. Turn off the stereo and television—you need to clear in a quiet atmosphere. Your intent is to clear disturbed or negative energies. When clearing, visualize these energies disappearing. The reason that you should be specific is that you want the good energy left undisturbed. If you chose to smudge with herbs, for example, speak aloud or silently words to convey that you are removing negative energy.

Clearing is done in a meditative-type state—slowly and with focus—so the words are much like a mantra. Keep them simple. For example, if I am smudging, I will think “negativity be gone!” or “if there is negative energy present, please leave.” At the same time, I visualize the space vibrant with only positive energy.

Every home and workspace should be cleared periodically. It is impossible to say exactly how often, as it depends on your situation. You will develop a feel for how often you need to clear negative energies. The following is a guide for good times to clear negative energies:

  • When you move into a new residence, clean and clear the space meticulously. You are clearing any possible negative or disturbed emotions of the previous occupants and other negative or disturbed energies. Clear your new office for the same reason.
  • Following an illness of a member of a household the negative energy should be cleared.
  • All objects that are antiques, previously used (particularly jewelry), works of art, crafts and anything made by hand should be individually cleared of negative energy. When feasible, wash items as well. If you buy an antique rocking chair, for example, that chair may have been sat on for years by the same person. This is great if it was a happy person—not so great if it was a miserable person. The energy of the rocking chair’s previous owner is in that chair.

On the subject of buying something that was previous used, I highly recommend that you do not purchase a second-hand bed. So much time is spent in bed—therefore, too much energy of the previous owner(s) is in a bed. Do you really want to gamble on who spent time in your bed? If you already have a used bed that you love, or insist on buying a used bed, learn how to dowse or hire someone to dowse it for you.

How to Stop Absorbing Other People’s Negative Emotions

Dr. Judith Orloff, MD | all things healing

Emotional freedom means learning how to stay centered in a stressful, highly emotionally charged world. Since emotions such as fear, anger, and frustration are energies, you can potentially “catch” them from people without realizing it. If you tend to be an emotional sponge, it’s vital to know how to avoid taking on an individual’s negative emotions or the free-floating kind in crowds. Another twist is that chronic anxiety, depression, or stress can turn you into an emotional sponge by wearing down your defenses. Suddenly, you become hyper-attuned to others, especially those with similar pain. That’s how empathy works; we zero in on hot-button issues that are unresolved in ourselves. From an energetic standpoint, negative emotions can originate from several sources. What you’re feeling may be your own, it may be someone else’s or it may be a combination. I’ll explain how to tell the difference and strategically bolster positive emotions so you don’t shoulder negativity that doesn’t belong to you.

This wasn’t something I always knew how to do. Growing up, my girlfriends couldn’t wait to hit the shopping malls and go to parties, the bigger the better–but I didn’t share their excitement. I always felt overwhelmed, exhausted around large groups of people, though I was clueless why. “What’s the matter with you?” friends would say, shooting me the weirdest looks. All I knew was that crowded places and I just didn’t mix. I’d go there feeling just fine but leave nervous, depressed, or with some horrible new ache or pain. Unsuspectingly, I was a gigantic sponge, absorbing the emotions of people around me.

With my patients, I’ve also seen how absorbing other people’s emotions can trigger panic attacks, depression, food, sex and drug binges, and a plethora of physical symptoms that defy traditional medical diagnosis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that more than two million Americans suffer from chronic fatigue. It’s likely that many of them are emotional sponges.

Here are some strategies from Emotional Freedom to practice. They will help you to stop absorbing other people’s emotions.

Emotional Action Step: How to Stay Centered in a Stressful World

To detach from other people’s negative emotions:

First, ask yourself: Is the feeling mine or someone else’s? It could be both. If the emotion such as fear or anger is yours, gently confront what’s causing it on your own or with professional help. If not, try to pinpoint the obvious generator. For instance, if you’ve just watched a comedy, yet you came home from the movie theater feeling blue, you may have incorporated the depression of the people sitting beside you; in close proximity, energy fields overlap. The same is true with going to a mall or packed concert.

* When possible, distance yourself from the suspected source. Move at least twenty feet away; see if you feel relief. Don’t err on the side of not wanting to offend strangers. In a public place, don’t hesitate to change seats if you feel a sense of depression imposing on you.

For a few minutes, center yourself by concentrating on your breath: This connects you to your essence. Keep exhaling negativity, inhaling calm. This helps to ground yourself and purify fear or other difficult emotions Visualize negativity as gray fog lifting from your body, and hope as golden light entering. This can yield quick results.
