There are a number of solutions to put an end to snoring but what would work for you depends on identifying the cause that makes you snore and highly embarrasses you. The general understanding is that whenever there is any disruption to our natural breathing process that consists of inhaling air through the nose and exhaling it through the mouth it can lead to snoring. For example, when you catch cold and your nose gets congested and you experience dryness of the throat, it restricts the airway and disrupts the normal breathing process. As a result, you could snore when you are sleeping.

Here are some remedies to deal with your snoring problem to ensure that it goes away.

Change your sleeping position

The way you position your body when sleeping impacts your breathing process which in turn can lead to snoring. Back sleepers who lie on their back create a condition when the tongue and soft palate tend to collapse back and obstruct the airways thereby leading to snoring. To alter the condition you must make the habit of sleeping on your side. This might not be easy to practice as your natural inclination would be to sleep on your back, but it is the only way to release the airways that stop you from snoring. Another way to relieve the airway when sleeping is to use an adjustable bed so that you can raise head to keep the airway free for smooth breathing and prevent snoring.

Use an anti-snore pillow

Anti-snoring pillows can help to switch over to the side sleeping position despite your affinity to sleep on your back.  The apparently normal looking pillows have some special design that makes it much more natural and comfortable to sleep on the side. When buying an anti-snoring pillow make sure that it is hypoallergenic or else it can compound the snoring problem instead of reducing it. The shape of the pillow helps in proper aligning of the neck and head when resting on the pillow so that there is no obstruction to airway when sleeping.

Lose weight

Obese people tend to suffer from snoring problems much more because the fatty tissue in the neck presses on the airway and restricts airflow thereby causing snoring. Losing your body weight can alter the situation and relax the airway and prevent snoring. Exercise and proper diet should help to maintain healthy body weight and put an end to the habit of snoring.

Beware of some medications

The side effects of some medications that relax your throat muscles and puts pressure on airway can cause snoring. Check with your doctor if any medications that you are using could be a cause for snoring.

Control your alcohol intake

One of the reasons for taking to alcohol is that it creates a relaxing feeling. But along with it comes the problem of throat muscle relaxation that stifles the passage of air by pressing on the airway which leads to snoring.

Controlling your alcohol consumption as well as smoking should help to end snoring.
