I am a firm believer that one of the main causes of unhappiness, stress, chronic pain and depression are a within a realm of disconnection, the feeling being alone or separate, and not having a sense of purpose in life.
When we disconnect with our life stream, no matter how much we may have built up our identity or our sense of “self” (better known as the “ego”), we will always have that underlying pull from a place we can never quite describe and never quite ignore.
This place is our intuition or our Higher Self; i.e. the self with a capital “S”. Your Higher Self could be considered that untarnished voice deep within; the real you under all the labels, criticisms, expectations, self-imposed limitations, judgments, and even positive markers as well which while they can propel and motivate positive change if attached to work only to serve the ego or self with a small “s”.
Humans, in reality, (just as love is…) are a neutral energy when we are in alignment. Love is neither negative nor positive; it is all-encompassing and when we are balanced, we tap into this neutrality as well and experience a feeling of being what we might call energetically “centered” or “grounded”.
So, if we do happen to disconnect from our purpose in life, how do we reconnect and how do we stay connected?
Well, for one it helps to have a routine or some kind structure to your purpose; something that is tangible, that you can work and interact with. And then…let's make like a “tiny dancer” and break it down! The smaller or one of my favorite terms EVER (the more “quantum”) we can make tasks we need to accomplish goals tied to our purpose, the more real it will feel, the more we will trust ourselves for showing up and setting achievable steps we can climb, and we'll begin gaining the confidence to finally be okay with rewarding ourselves…and thus sparking a cycle of gratitude, which creates the space necessary to allow even more awesomeness to enter your life.
This routine, set of tasks, etc. honestly doesn’t have to be something material however, it can be an ideal that is so endeared to your heart that you don’t need to physically see or touch anything outside of you to connect to your purpose intertwined with that idea. And yes, sometimes people prefer something even less concrete and more spontaneous, and for them that IS their structure…as long as it is something that continuously keeps your creativity ebbing and flowing and your awareness in the know that this is all part of the process. And long as energy is MOVING…If it is merely a mantra you repeat to break a bad habit, and it works for you to do just that, then that is enough and serving YOUR purpose.
Your ego will fight to judge, criticize and bring up every reason you can’t do it or shouldn’t be doing it. It will do whatever it can to get you to STOP. The ego sees any sort of change as a threat or a literal message telling it that something is wrong with it. It will fight to the death to keep you the same and the trick is to simply step back and recognize that this is simply the role it plays and nothing more. Once we stop judging IT, we can begin to use it as a tool; and it immediately becomes one of the most powerful tools we are given in life.
You see, the ego, once we unattach the stigmas and preconceived notions about it, is really nothing more than a handy GPS system that gives us directions to those areas in our lives where we are avoiding. I know none of us want to hear that and guess what? That’s the ego acting as the damn gate-keeper, so tell him you appreciate him taking care of everything he has up to this point, but you got it now and from now on he’s to act as your confidant and give you clues to when you need to act and those clues will be clear and concise.
Now…you no longer have an ego that has all the power over your emotions and thus all the power over your conscious mind, but rather now you have someone showing you the hidden clues in the room. Your ego, in a sense, is giving you secret insider information so you can assess situations now with a broader understanding of your own role, the purpose of the experience in general and what it’s meant to teach you and others involved.
The ego also creates a space that allows you now to choose how to respond to the situation instead of emotionally reacting which we all know is just a fun barrel of monkeys to deal with when we end up saying and doing things we don’t mean in the heat of an argument, right?
So, I think we can all agree to make a small shift in our perspective on the ego and allow ourselves to take the reigns over the power it once had, it the first and vital step to clearing the way to not only finding your purpose in life but staying connected to it. And let’s face it, this brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, “Get over yourself!” LOL 😉
