Not all homes are blessed with a great deal of natural light. Maybe you live in an apartment block surrounded by other buildings. Maybe you live on the ground floor or lower ground floor and don’t have too many windows to allow natural light into your home. Whatever the reason, you don’t have to live in the dark and there are a number of solutions for you to consider.

Of course, we all want to have our homes filled with as much natural light as possible. And if you are fortunate to live in a large house, away from crowded and congested areas, your home can be a haven for natural sunlight, and the warm and relaxing tones that come with it. Don’t forget – natural sunlight is also a source of vitamin D, which is essential for the health of our bones and teeth.

Artificial lighting in homes

Artificial lighting is found in all homes, offices and other places of work. Without it, we would simply not be able to carry out a normal like. Even natural sunlight is limited to the number of hours it is available, especially during the short winter days. Without artificial lighting, we would be living in the dark for long periods of our lives.

For homes, compact fluorescent bulbs are the most common and easiest way to light up your home. Lighting can be in the form of ceiling lights, which are found in all buildings, as well as stand alone lamps, which can range from being several meters in height, to something small enough to place on a bedside unit or mantelpiece.

If you are remodeling your home, or moving into a new one, then you need to pay close attention to the lighting options that you have. Do you have high or low ceilings? Do some rooms have more natural light during the day than others? There are lots of things to consider, and it’s important to have a good plan when it comes to arranging the lighting in your home.

Kitchen lighting

For most people, the kitchen is a practical place, where you will prepare your food, and in some cases, eat your meals. It’s not a room in the house that can be really thought of as being a relaxing place, so the lighting you’ll need should be a bright, almost cold light – one that is best for practical, rather than relaxing purposes.

Most kitchens have a main hanging light from the ceiling and others under the units that stand over the worktop. It’s not often you’ll find a standalone lamp in someone’s kitchen, simply because they aren’t practical or needed.

Your kitchen however, doesn’t need to be a boring room in terms of its lighting, and there are a number of different styles of light that you can consider. Neon lights, such as that found at Neon Mama lighting, is one very popular form of lighting that can really brighten up your kitchen, or other rooms in your home.

Neon lighting in the home

Though most people will consider neon lighting to be something that is used for signs outside of stores, or for advertising purposes, such as wall signage inside bars, it is actually a popular form of light for the home and office, and come in a wide variety of styles, sizes and colours.

Neon lights are very bright and can instantly transform a room into something very special and unique. Whether you get a neon sign in the form of numbering or letters, or one that resembles an animal, superhero or brand logo, they are great to catch the attention and imagination of everyone who sees it.

You can use neon lights in your home in different places. Some people like the idea of having a bar or drinks corner in their home. Here you could install a colourful neon sign for your home bar. Others like to simply add something to an otherwise plain and boring wall, and nothing can brighten up that than a colourful and dynamic neon light.

Benefits of neon lighting

LED neon lights are the modern version of the classic neon lights, and are much more durable, safer and longer lasting. An LED neon light can have a lifespan of more than 40,000 hours, and are highly energy efficient.

They are available in a wide range of colours, so if you have a specific colour combination in your home, you’ll easily be able to get a neon light made that will fit perfectly with the rest of your home.

With so many classic and standard forms of lighting that you can have in your house, when it comes to something a little more different and unique, why not consider going for a neon light instead.
