Earth’s Magnetic Field Is NOT About To Reverse, Study Finds

Richard Holme, Professor of Geomagnetism at the University of Liverpool, said: “There has been speculation that we are about to experience a magnetic polar reversal or excursion. However, by studying the two most recent excursion events, we show that neither bear resemblance to current changes in the geomagnetic field and therefore it is probably unlikely that such an event is about to happen. Our research suggests instead that the current weakened field will recover without such an extreme event, and therefore is unlikely to reverse.”

Earth’s First Luxury Space Hotel Could Launch As Soon As 2022

As neat as it sounds, the Aurora Station space hotel is still a concept. If it becomes a reality, however, Orion Span will likely partner with private companies for transportation, such as Virgin Galactic. “That will be through partnerships with SpaceX, Blue Origin or a space agency,” said Orion Span’s CEO, Frank Bunger. As of yet, no partnerships have been announced.

NASA Funds Project to Put Robot Bees on Mars

“With their ability to fly through the ultra-low-density atmosphere of Mars, Marsbees will enable researchers to gather previously unattainable data about the pressure, temperature, and chemical composition of Mars,” project lead Chang-kwon Kang.

‘Out of Control’ Chinese Space Lab To Become a Celestial Fireball and Impact Earth TODAY

South Korea’s National Space Situational Awareness Organisation said on Sunday the 10.4-metre-long (34-foot) Tiangong-1 space station is expected to re-enter the atmosphere some time between 5:12am and 1:12pm Seoul time on Monday (between 1:12 pm and 9:12 pm Eastern Time on Sunday). The debris from the abandoned eight-tonne craft could land anywhere between the latitudes of 43 degrees north and 43 degrees south – from New Zealand to the American midwest, the ESA said.

Mars Colony Would Be a Hedge Against World War III, Elon Musk Says

Elon Musk has long stressed that he founded SpaceX in 2002 primarily to help make humanity a multiplanet species — a giant leap that would render us much less vulnerable to extinction.

‘HAMMER’ Time? Spacecraft Could Defend Earth by Nuking a Dangerous Asteroid

The next time a hazardous asteroid lines Earth up in its crosshairs, we may be ready for the threat. Scientists and engineers with the U.S. government have drawn up plans for a spacecraft that could knock big, incoming space rocks off course via blunt-force impact or blow them to bits with a nuclear warhead.

Stephen Hawking Says He Knows What Happened BEFORE the Big Bang

Hawking’s answer to the question “What was there before there was anything?” relies on a theory known as the “no-boundary proposal. In in a lecture on the no-boundary proposal, Hawking wrote: “Events before the Big Bang are simply not defined, because there’s no way one could measure what happened at them. Since events before the Big Bang have no observational consequences, one may as well cut them out of the theory, and say that time began at the Big Bang.”

The Universe Is Expanding Faster Than Expected

One possibility to explain the speed in which the universe is expanding – is that dark energy, already known to be accelerating the cosmos, may be shoving galaxies away from each other with even greater — or growing — strength. This means that the acceleration itself might not have a constant value in the universe but changes over time in the universe.

Rare ‘Super Blood Blue Moon’ an Lunar Eclipse On Jan 31 (1-Min VIDEO)

This full moon is the third in a series of “supermoons,” when the Moon is closer to Earth in its orbit — known as perigee — and about 14 percent brighter than usual. It’s the second full moon of the month, commonly known as a “blue moon.” The super blue moon will pass through Earth’s shadow to give viewers in the right location a total lunar eclipse. While the Moon is in the Earth’s shadow it will take on a reddish tint, known as a “blood moon.”

Scientists Just Found ‘Limitless’ Clean Water Reserves All Over Mars

The truly exciting part of the discovery is that these relatively pure layers of ice are so close to Mars’ surface. In some instances, they are just a few feet down, which makes the almost limitless water very accessible to human beings.

Scientists Take Viewers on a Virtual Trip to the Center of the Milky Way in this 2-Minute Video

Astronomers are interested in better understanding how the stars interact with the Galactic center’s most dominant resident: the supermassive black hole known as Sagittarius A* (abbreviated Sgr A*). The Galactic Center visualization is a 360-degree movie that immerses the viewer into a simulation of the center of our Galaxy. The viewer is at the location of Sgr A* and is able to see about 25 Wolf-Rayet stars (white, twinkling objects) orbiting Sgr A* as they continuously eject stellar winds (black to red to yellow color scale).

The Moon Is About To Do Something It Hasn’t Done In More Than 150 Years

Call it whatever you like—a blue red moon, a purple moon, a blood moon—but the moon will be a special sight on Jan. 31. Three separate celestial events will occur simultaneously that night, resulting in what some are calling a super blue blood moon eclipse. The astronomical rarity hasn’t happened for more than 150 years.
