Are you planning to take your family on a vacation to the coastal town of Looe in Cornwall? Make no mistake Looe is a fun fishing town and your kids will definitely love watching the boats come in, eating award-winning fish and chips, and exploring the town – but after a while they’re probably going to want to do something else.
The good news is that there are lots of great places to visit near Looe where your kids will have boatloads of fun. In fact here are five of the best places that you should definitely think about paying a visit:
1. East Looe Beach
Located right in front of the town, East Looe Beach is safe for kids and has a nice sandy stretch during low tide so you can build sandcastles. Alternatively you could go crabbing, or fish in the shallow water.
The only downside is that because this beach is so close to Looe it can get crowded – especially in the summer.
2. Looe Monkey Sanctuary
A trip to the Looe Monkey Sanctuary can be both fun as well as educational. It cares for over 40 rescued monkeys and teaches them how to be wild again. Not only can your kids watch monkeys playing naturally with one another, but they’ll also learn more about primates and conservation.
3. Looe Island
To get to Looe Island you’ll need to book a trip at the quay and take a boat over. Kids are likely to find the ferry ride itself fun, and on top of that they’ll get a kick from the novelty of exploring the deserted island and watching wildlife.
One of the highlights of Looe Island is that you’ll get to watch seals in the wild without disturbing them.
4. Old Guildhall Museum and Gaol
Kids may not generally enjoy museums, but the Looe town museum is different. It has lots that can attract them, including exhibits that cover the history of Looe – which basically involves pirates and smuggling.
The fact that the museum is in the Old Guildhall Building that was also used as the magistrates court for a time and still has jail cells is also bound to get your kids curious.
5. Carnglaze Caverns
Although it’s a 22-minute drive from Looe, the trip to Carnglaze Caverns is well worth it. Undoubtedly your kids will be thrilled to explore the caverns that has three chambers as well as an underground lake.
Between these five places you should have more than enough to occupy several days out in Looe. It should be noted that there are many other attractions nearby that are family-friendly too – so you should take your time to check them out as well.
Because there are so many options, it may be a good idea to sit down with your family and think about which attractions you want to visit. That way you can plan ahead and make sure that you don’t waste any of your time in Looe.
