“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” — Paulo Coelho (‘The Alchemist')
Yip, guess who's just finished reading this exquisite novel?
And talk about synchronicity! Three days after I had finished reading this profound book by Paulo Coelho (that has been threatening me on my nightstand for months now), I got a surprise e-mail from the editor of Odyssey magazine asking if I'd like to write a column for them (and she mentioned that Paulo Coelho is also writing for the magazine now!).
Well, taking into consideration that I live for synchronous events such as this — I said ‘yes!'

I'm going to let you in on a little secret…
Down the Rabbit Hole of Past Thoughts
Years ago (around 2011 when my first book was published), I used to frequently read Odyssey and Simply Green magazine (both are owned by the same people and I had no idea until she mentioned it in her e-mail) — they were the only 2 publications I ever kept and read over and over (I still have copies in my art studio).
A friend of mine suggested that I should advertise my book in Odyssey magazine as it deals with all things ‘holistic' to which I replied that I merely could not afford to.
I then let go of the idea and life moved on and I moved house and simply forgot about it. We don't have any ‘health' stores (where these specific mags were available in Cape Town) out in the sticks where I live and I haven't bought one of these magazines for a good couple of years now.
So you can imagine my surprise when years later this happens!
Getting to the Point (yes, yes…it's coming!)
You never know when your seed is going to culminate. Heck, I didn't even realize I planted the seed but in reflection, I must have by talking about it and thinking about it.
This specific seed not only grew but multiplied.
This fantastic publication is not only about to run an introductory story (in prelude to my column) mentioning all my books but also gave me a 4 page spread incorporating my art and CD too. I didn't see that one coming!
Which brings to mind this quote by Joyce Meyer:
“I believe that a trusting attitude and a patient attitude go hand in hand. You see, when you let go and learn to trust God, it releases joy in your life. And when you trust God, you're able to be more patient. Patience is not just about waiting for something… it's about how you wait, or your attitude while waiting.”
Or, in my case, just forgetting about it. Which just shows you that the Universe doesn't forget! We've got to be real aware of what we're putting out there! The good, the bad and the…well, you know.
So this brings me to a few points:
- Your thoughts are hooked on clouds that may rain down at any moment or some time in the future — don't give up on what you want or dream about!
- Your patience is required — water those seeds, daydream about your goals. Any form of negative thinking about what you want to manifest will result in drought. Seeds can't grow in drought, can they?
- Your joy is required — through your thoughts you put out what you want. Your job is to live like it's already happening NOW. Joy is your purpose at any stage in your life. You can, of course, allow yourself some time to feel down or low but always try to endeavor to come back to your bliss.
- Your attention is required — you've simply got to look out for those synchronous markers! Follow the breadcrumbs to your dreams.
- Now You're Ready — sometimes we're just not ready for something to materialize. Remember that things happen according to our soul needs and development which is another way for saying ‘divine timing' (reread point no. 2).
Here are some quotes from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho for you to ponder:
“People are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.”
“Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.”
“I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we’re living now.”
“When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.”
“Intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life.”
“Why do we have to listen to our hearts?” the boy asked.
“Because, wherever your heart is, that is where you will find your treasure.”
And last but not least…
“We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.”
