What Are The Health Risks Associated With a Sedentary Lifestyle?

The world is going very fast and so are the people living in it. Everyone is trying to do more in less time. People engage themselves so deeply in their work that finding an hour for their health and wellbeing is nearly impossible. The job people mostly do is also of sedentary nature which turns them to couch potatoes. They start following an inactive lifestyle with a lot of sitting and lying down, with very little to no exercise. This lifestyle, void of recommended levels of physical activity, is causing a myriad number of physical, mental, psychological, and emotional health issues to more than half of the world’s population. Obesity, which is the birthplace of many chronicle ailments like hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular problems, and some types of cancers, is spreading rampant due to the absence of physical activities in human lives. People are spending millions of dollars to treat these health problems every year but couldn’t take an hour out of their occupied lives and save themselves from these diseases. Some Harmful Effects of Not Doing Exercise Regularly:

Obesity:

Obesity is one of the main health issues the world is currently dealing with. Besides having poor dietary habits, not exercising regularly fuels this epidemic. When you don’t do regular workouts, you find it really difficult to control your weight gain. You will not be able to burn those extra calories you have intaken and as a result, a few ponds got added to your weight.

Cardiovascular problems:

Your heart is a muscle and like any other muscle of your body, it needs some exercise on a regular basis to maintain its strength. When you don’t do some physical activity, your heart will start weakening and would not be able to bear stress which can sometimes produce tragic results. The absence of recommended exercise encourages plaque buildup, which sets the stage for strokes and other potential disasters down the road.

Type 2 Diabetes:

Not doing recommended regular physical activity can raise the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. Exercise and walking produce insulin that helps control weight, blood pressure, and the sugar level in your body. Besides the void of workouts in a person’s life, unhealthy eating is also damaging the balance between insulin and sugar.

Joint and Bone Fragility:

Not exercising has a negative impact on your joints and bones too. Contrarily, when you do frequent workouts (and stretches) your joint becomes flexible, and the unused one remains weaker, less elastic, and more prone to nasty tears. When you maintain the flexibility in your joints and muscles through regular workouts, it helps you prevent injuries from falls and enables you to perform daily activities much longer. Furthermore, physical activities reduce chronic pain, help maintain muscle strength in affected joints, and reduce joint stiffness.

Increased Risk of Certain Cancers:

Cancer is currently the second-leading cause of death tolls in the world. And there are many studies that show a lack of physical activity leads to certain cancers, including cancers of the bladder, breast, colon, stomach, esophagus, kidney, lung, endometrial cancers, melanoma, and leukemia. On the other hand, if you do the recommended amount of physical activity, you will be able to save yourself from this fatal disease. Additionally, regular exercise can improve the quality of life for cancer patients, and it can also improve their fitness. Exercise can also reduce the risk of dying from breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer.

Mental risks:

Following an inactive lifestyle not only damage your physical health but mental health too. When you are not doing exercise, you are exposing yourself to mental problems like depression, anxiety, and stress. These health issues affect your mood and doing some workout on a daily basis helps you combat all these and other mental and emotional problems. Moreover, exercise releases endorphins, the body's own mood-boosting drug, which has made exercise one of the cornerstones in today's professional treatment of depression.

Not doing exercise results in many kinds of health risks which can take you to death bed in worse situations.
