The mention of Brexit has brought about so many changes, most of us are not sure where to even begin when it comes to comprehending them. However, it seems like there are a large number of these changes in the automobile section and that's something that vehicle owners should be looking out for.
The new move to have more vehicles added to the MOT test was one that brought a lot of shock and confusion everywhere. Jersey was one of the areas to be used as a starting point for additional MOT tests. The idea came about post the EU directive ordering all cars to meet the European Union Roadworthiness Package.
The biggest worry for the people was the additional workload of mechanics who would have to handle this and if more were going to be hired, where would they come from. The current MOT tests require about 53000 testers who are working through 20100 garages across Great Britain. Additionally, the MOT is a regular, annual test so the cars tested would be at the garage again the following day.
Additionally, the MOT was looked at as an outdated test that was handled for the sake of it. The test was quite old and a lot of the people going through it felt that it wasn’t relevant since cars had come a long way since the test initially came out. Furthermore, cars now had mechanisms that warned about things like the amounts of oil and other fluids in the car, making them safe overall. However, the team that handled it mentioned that they thought it was relevant since it showed a significant decrease in the number of cars that met with road accidents caused due to vehicle malfunctions.
The changes to the tests now included functional reverse lights on cars. Earlier cars didn’t have reverse lights at the time of manufacture but the newer vehicles did. All features that a vehicle comes with at the time of purchase should be functional at the time of the MOT . Another thing would be the daytime running lights which should be working at the time of the test. Brakes, brake pads and the efficiency of brakes when they are applied is another feature that is so crucial to the functioning of the car.
Many of the vehicles that recently went through the test found that they were rated lower since the threading of their tires was a little worn out. There are specific requirements about the tires and they have to be maintained. The functionality of the steering should also be accurate cause if it doesn’t function properly, it could lead to some serious accidents.
Diesel vehicles are now getting the short end of the stick and have to make sure they aren’t polluting, and their emissions are maintained. They also have to double-check that the filters are doing their job otherwise they should be changed before the exam.
