September marks the fall eclipse season, with two eclipses – a total lunar eclipse on September 7, 2025, followed by a solar eclipse on September 21, 2025. Eclipses bring heightened sensitivity this month, along with possible new revelations, that helps us to get back on track and bring us deeper healing and transformation. The Sun and Mercury travel closely together this month, especially from September 8 to September 18, a time to be careful with all communications. The Sun conjuncts Ketu on September 10, good for spiritual life and contemplation. Mercury, planet of communications enters its exalted sign of Virgo from September 14, 2025 to October 2, 2025, that brings greater discernment.
A total lunar eclipse occurs at 11:09 AM PDT on September 7, 2025 at 21 degrees Aquarius in the nakshatra of Purva Bhadrapada. Lunar eclipses tend to heighten our emotional and mental sensitivities. The intense nakshatra of Purva Bhadrapada can be passionate, idealistic, and healing, so our spiritual practices at this time can be profound and have a deeply purifying effect as we move toward higher awareness. This nakshatra can also bring emotional upheaval and even the feeling pulled in two different directions. Try not to engage in critical or angry thoughts or feelings, which can be the shadow side of Purva Bhadrapada. Activities that stabilize the mind and calm the emotions are positive remedies.
Then on September 21, 2025, at 12:54 PM PDT, we experience a solar eclipse at 4 degrees Virgo in the nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni. The nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni promotes service and healing to those in need. Good conduct, ethical behavior, and sharing equally are positive results of this eclipse. We become more aware of greater imbalances of power occurring in the world, that can amplify a deeper commitment to compassion and generosity to help us heal. Increased motivation for humanitarian aid and donating time and money to worthy causes are positive outcomes. Know that as we help others – we help ourselves.
Eclipses can sometimes trigger significant changes or circumstances into one’s life, and are not to be feared. Eclipses can be enlightening, revealing things we need to see that had been previously ignored. Material or worldly pursuits are not recommended around eclipse days. Eclipses are considered days of “spiritual initiation” and are positive days for deep inner work, insight, meditation, and prayer.
On September 10, 2025, the Sun and the south node Ketu will conjunct in Leo at 24 degrees. On a personal level we can experience issues with authority figures or we may experience an identity crisis. From a higher perspective the Sun/Ketu energies can increase our spiritual insight and intuitive abilities. This is a good time for inner reflection and heightened perceptions.
During Mercury’s transit through the end of the sign of Leo to its more favorable sign of Virgo, Mercury will be combust or weakened as it travels close to the Sun from September 8 to 18, 2025, using a four-degree orb. This is a time to be extra clear and precise with all types of communications, business dealings, and travel plans. The exact conjunction occurs on September 13 at 27 degrees Leo. Take time to organize your thoughts and be conscientious.
On September 14, 2025 Mercury enters its exalted sign of Virgo and travels very quickly through this sign, leaving on October 2, 2025. Mercury will be at full strength on September 23 when it transits 15 degrees Virgo, its exact degree of exaltation. Mercury in Virgo stimulates the intellect and we are motivated to learn, study, and do research. This is a great time to consider any educational goals. We may feel greater mental clarity and greater ability to discern. Mercury also rules commerce and sales, so use this time to improve or make needed adjustments to your business. But also watch for over-thinking, excessive worry, or increased criticalness. Thoughtfulness, meditation, creativity, pranayama, and uniting the head with the heart are helpful remedies.
Summary
September 2025 is a potent, clarifying month framed by two eclipses—a total lunar eclipse on Sept 7 (21° Aquarius, Purva Bhadrapada) and a solar eclipse on Sept 21 (4° Virgo, Uttara Phalguni)—that heighten sensitivity, surface revelations, and nudge us back on track through deep inner work. Communication requires extra care while the Sun and Mercury travel closely Sept 8–18 (exact Sept 13), and Sun–Ketu’s Sept 10 conjunction sharpens spiritual perception while stirring authority/identity themes. After Sept 14, Mercury races into exalted Virgo (peak Sept 23), favoring study, discernment, and business refinements—so long as we temper worry and criticism. The month’s medicine: minimize worldly striving around the eclipses; emphasize meditation, ethics, compassionate service, and practical organization.
