March is a significant and intense month, due to the start of the spring eclipse season and Saturn changing signs. Venus, planet of relationships and finance, goes retrograde in Pisces on March 1, 2025 until mid-April. Mercury transits Pisces, its sign of debility, and goes retrograde mid-March, near the lunar eclipse. A total lunar eclipse occurs on March 14, 2025, followed by a solar eclipse on March 29, 2025, the same day Saturn changes signs, moving from Aquarius to Pisces.
Venus, planet of relationships, healing, and finance, goes retrograde at 16 degrees Pisces on March 1, 2025 until April 12, 2025. Venus is strong in its exalted sign of Pisces, but now its energies are retrograde and more internal and past-related, creating an opening for greater spiritual progress. We complete “unfinished” business concerning integrity in relationships and the development of good boundaries. We are redefining what emotional happiness is. Areas where we felt a lack of emotional fulfillment can surface to heal. This is a time to release old emotional traumas and acknowledge your true self-worth.
During Venus retrograde, our value system is also going through a review period, both inwardly, in how we respect and honor ourselves, and outwardly, as we revisit our financial situation and make changes as needed. This can also be a positive time to reconnect with our true, supportive friends and family members to experience greater compassion, kindness, and upliftment in our personal environment.
Mercury, planet of communications, has been transiting its debilitated sign of Pisces since February 27 2025, and will go retrograde late on March 14 or early March 15, depending on your time zone.
Mercury remains retrograde until April 7, 2025. As this Mercury retrograde period starts near the lunar eclipse, we need to take extra care with our communications during this time. Be more mindful, discerning, and clear in your conversations and what you put in writing. Double check travel plans and back-up computers. Watch for indecisiveness and increased emotion guiding your decision-making. This is a good time for reflection and meditation.
On March 13 or 14, 2025, depending on your time zone, we experience a total lunar eclipse at 29 degrees Leo in the nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni. This eclipse occurs the early morning of March 14 EDT at 2:55 AM (east coast time) or late night on March 13 PDT at 11:55 PM (west coast time). The nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni promotes service and healing to those in need. We notice those who may have been neglected in the past, but now need our help and support. Good conduct, ethical behavior, and sharing equally is a theme with this eclipse. But watch for the shadow side of this nakshatra to surface around the eclipse, such as noticing greater imbalances of power, experiencing issues with joint finances, or seeing a lack of generosity in the world.
On March 29, 2025, the solar eclipse occurs at 14 degrees Pisces at 6:58 AM EDT or 3:58 AM PDT. This eclipse occurs in the nakshatra of Uttara Bhadrapada, also called the “warrior star,” and indicates taking a fiercer stance in life. Situations can give rise to anger or accelerated passion in order to be transcended or solved peacefully now. This nakshatra is imaginative, inspirational, and emotional. Be patient, accept the up and down cycles of life, and come from a neutral, present state of consciousness.
It is important not to fear eclipses, but note that they can sometimes trigger significant changes or circumstances into one’s life. Eclipses can be enlightening, revealing things we need to see that had been previously ignored. Material or worldly pursuits are not recommended around eclipse days. Eclipses are considered days of “spiritual initiation” and are positive days for deep inner work, insight, meditation, and prayer.
Saturn changes signs on March 29, 2025, moving from its own sign of Aquarius to the water sign of Pisces, and this is also the date of the solar eclipse, so a powerful time. As Saturn is the slowest moving planet in Vedic astrology, and takes approximately 2 ½ to 3 years to move through a sign, this is a major transit that brings a new focus now on Pisces energies. Saturn is a planet that requires truth, authenticity, discipline, and neutrality. Effort, hard work, and service are usually required with Saturn. As Saturn transits are long, patience and perseverance are also needed to do well.
As Saturn transits the sensitive water sign of Pisces from March 29, 2025 until February 23, 2028, there is greater emphasis on spiritual, humanitarian, and global concerns. Saturn in the mystical sign of Pisces motivates us to work with firmer boundaries and greater discipline with our spiritual practices and studies. We may be challenged to face a deeper reality, and this may help us to live more authentically. We are building a stronger spiritual foundation with Saturn in Pisces. Saturn in the Jupiter-ruled sign of Pisces can bring up our vulnerabilities on many levels, emotionally, economically, and spiritually. This is a time to make our dreams and visions more realistic, stable, and mature.
Summary
March 2025 features a powerful convergence of astrological events, including spring eclipses, Mercury and Venus retrograde in Pisces, and Saturn’s transition from Aquarius to Pisces. These transits highlight themes of spiritual growth, the re-evaluation of relationships and finances, and increased emphasis on humanitarian concerns. Eclipses during this time can be catalysts for deep inner work and personal transformation, as Saturn’s shift into Pisces encourages realism, authenticity, and the building of a stronger spiritual foundation.
