Life is full of ups and downs and when it changes unexpectedly, people often feel unbalanced and insecure. Focus on creating a strong inner core is key to handling difficult situations. If your inner core is healthy, then the rest of you is healthy. To cultivate it, you need to work on your mindfulness and compassion, just as you would work on your physical body when it feels weak. Here are a few steps you can take to build your inner strength.
Put yourself first
Your well-being should be your top priority in order to be able to handle the difficult situations in life. Before trying to help someone else, you need to make sure your mind is in the right place. “Strength comes from knowing you have the equipment and tools to handle life's challenges,” says Jennifer Maanavi, Owner, CEO and Co-Founder of Physique 57. She adds that you should allow yourself time to build yourself the “tools” that will allow you to make your life the one you want to lead, arguing the importance of egocentricity: a healthy amount of selfishness gives you more sway over your own goals and as a result, enhances your leadership skills and makes you a more positive influence on those around you.
Declutter the mind
Meditation can work wonders on the mind and even 10 minutes of it a day can remove the thoughts that exhaust you of your energy. Some people find it really difficult to switch off, but what they need to realise is that meditation, as TheCircle perfectly describes it, is just a shift in state of mind to a place of detachment. You don’t need to sit in the lotus position and meditate for hours if you don’t have the time to do that. You can always use sites like TheCircle to connect with those who can guide your meditative processes if you're struggling, but just noticing your surrounding for a few minutes or playing music can give you a mindfulness space and calm you down.
Don't waste energy
Spending time with the wrong people can drain you of your energy as they suck the life from your inner core. Avoid this type of people and always remember that excellence brings out excellence and mediocrity brings out mediocrity. Surround yourself with people who are strong inside and who feed positive energy into your life. It’s okay to be protective about who you choose to allow into your life!
Create a routine
People usually focus on controlling the things they will never be able to control instead of focusing their energy on the things they can control. Grab a notebook and a pen and write down your daily tasks, then separate it into repetitive tasks and thinking tasks. Find ways and routines around the repetitive tasks and put your brainpower into the thinking ones. It’s amazing how this small step can make you feel much more in control of your life and also leaves you with time for yourself!
Embrace challenges
Challenges bring out the best qualities in a person, especially potential you never realised you had. Pressure builds the drive people need to find solutions that allow them to overcome obstacles, it brings the inner strength to the surface. Embrace challenges and put yourself in situations that help you build the strength and confidence you need. But don’t overwhelm yourself! You need to reach for realistic and attainable goals, not perfection!
