James Brown, the American musician, understood women when he sang: “This is a man's world, but it would mean nothing without a woman or a girl.” Spot on, Mr. Brown.
Since the beginning of time, women have embodied exceptional forces – Mother Gaia, the Blessed Mother, Kali, Lilith, Sekhmet, Medusa, and other feminine powers.
Each represents a unique but divine expression of the Feminine.
Um…what happened?
Why are many women today trying to be like men? Is that why we're frustrated and burnt out all the time? Have we lost touch with our feminine genius? Can we embrace her again?
Before diving any deeper, let's introduce the concept of energy into the conversation.

Feminine vs. Masculine Energy
Regardless of our gender or sexual orientation, we all have masculine and feminine energies within. Like yin and yang, we need both for a balanced life.
Imagine these energies as a spectrum with the masculine on one end and the feminine on the other. Each person lands somewhere specific on the spectrum, and that becomes their natural state.
The masculine energy represents our ability to sink into consciousness or stillness deeply. It's connected to structure and rationale.
With our masculine, we set boundaries, maintain routines, engage in analytical thought, and move through life with presence, confidence, and consistency.
Like the steady texture of a mountain, the masculine energy is grounded.
The feminine energy, which is the focus of this literary piece, represents our capacity to feel deeply. It's connected to intuition and creativity.
Our feminine side allows us to shamelessly own our desires, explore pleasure in all areas of life, receive support, and unapologetically move to the beat of our drum.
Like the ever-flowing streams of a river, the feminine energy is fluid.
But what is the Feminine really?
For starters, She is NOT one thing; quite the contrary.
She is the warrior, the healer, the mother, the nurturer, the mystic, the medicine woman, and the destroyer (destroyer of illusions).
Take a look at Mother Nature.
Isn't she always shifting and going through stages? – Seasonal? Environmental? Moon cycles?
I call this orderly chaos… a deliberate way of processing, purging, and producing energy. And women, attuned to their inner feminine, are the exact same way.
We change and transform based on our inner cycles, which in turn reflect the intrinsic rhythm of the earth. These ups and downs are part of the female experience as they help us expand into different expressions.
So, She cannot be one thing.
- She is the sword of truth that shatters all illusion and burns away the false and the flawed.
- She is the nurturing mother, coaxing out our highest potential and filling it with joy, creativity, and compassion.
- She is the guardian of the Underworld, ushering us into the deepest, darkest parts of ourselves that need attention and care.
- Last but not least, She is the ocean of esoteric wisdom – that inner intuitive compass that will always point north.
Regardless of the form she takes, the Divine Feminine sits at the core of spiritual enlightenment with the power to heal, create, and transform.
When a woman embraces these different expressions, she unleashes her feminine juices and melts into her true self. Her chaotic, creative, caring, charismatic, cyclical self. This is how she comes home to her-self.
The question is, how can we reconnect with our long-lost feminine side?
#1 Introspection
In the words of Aristotle: “There is no great genius without some touch of madness.”
In this sense, hidden within us are parts, perhaps a bit ‘mad' that hunger to be seen. They've been in the dark for too long, desperately wanting to come into the light.
Let’s not shy away from embracing them – those inner quirks. As the Cheshire Cat once wisely said, we're all a bit mad here anyway.
So, ask yourself:
What parts of myself am I afraid to express? What if I saw my rage, resentment, fear, grief, or frustration as a sacred messenger? Can I give myself permission to feel those emotions without judgment?
The key lies in being gentle with ourselves. The inner journey is never a sprint.
#2 Listening to Period Symptoms
The feminine energy is all about feeling, and the body is a storehouse of emotion.
But when forced to work against the body – against our moon cycles – we will inevitably feel burnt out and out of alignment.
Luckily, through various symptoms, our body clues us in on what we need.
- Fatigue and cramps may ask us to slow down and go inward. It’s time to take five from this go-go-go energy and ease into a softer relaxation. A stress-free body can heal itself just fine.
- Moodiness demands solitude. It's our opportunity to sit with the tsunami of emotions we’re experiencing and feel them without judgment.
- Sadness and anger bring up unresolved pain that needs (a little) extra loving and acceptance.
- Cravings are invitations to let pleasure in. Pampering ourselves is (also) an act of self-love, and we are more than entitled to it.
These symptoms may very well be what we need to fall back into alignment with ourselves.
#3 Healing Our Sexuality
It's entirely natural for every woman to have sexual desires, fantasies, and fetishes.
When intimate with herself or others, she allows herself to receive pleasure and become receptive to all kinds of blessings.
Understanding that sexual energy is both sacred and sexy – a portal for healing, pleasure, and ecstasy – she sees her yoni as a sacred doorway to embodying her inner divinity. And so, she voices her wildest needs, embraces her loudest roars, and fearlessly aligns with her sensual nature.
Are you able to feel yourself without shame or judgment? Are you open to receiving pleasure without feeling guilty?
If not, your body may still be holding on to past trauma. True freedom comes when you release shame around your sexuality.
It's time to normalize pleasuring ourselves, feeling our bodies, and massaging our feminine parts because nothing is more rewarding for a woman than feeling safe (and sexy) in her own body.
#4 Awakening our Playful Side
Believe it or not, there's a Peter Pan in all of us who never stops believing in the magic of life.
Remember Simba's crowning moment of confidence when he walked into the Elephant Graveyard saying, “I laugh in the face of danger?”
That is the playful spirit of your inner child forever bursting with oomph – Passionate. Unapologetic. Unafraid.
What if you belted out some tunes, even if they're off-key, and splashed some paint around, even if it got messy? In fact, make a mess. Who cares? Can you break all the rules for five minutes and just be?
There's this playful energy buried within that wants to be felt by you.
So, don't think, and most certainly, don't try. Just unleash.

4 Powerful Messages to Bring “Life” Back into Your Life
#5 Healing our Inner Masculine
Take this as a rule of thumb. Our feminine side can only relax when our inner masculine is strong.
Think of the masculine energy as the frame that holds and protects the picture, i.e., the feminine. Only when the masculine creates a safe container can the feminine be fully expressed.
Reflect on these:
Do I feel safe in my body? In my living space? In my relationships? Can I support myself by meeting my wants and needs? Am I capable of taking action towards my desires?
In other words, how can you have a more structured, more supported life?
In Conclusion
Women are complex, multifaceted, cyclical beings.
We can be calm and chaotic. Soft and strong. Fierce and friendly. Submissive and seductive. Peaceful and powerful.
All these are the authentic, ever-changing manifestations of the Feminine, and it's time we see them as the divine, inseparable parts of ourselves.
Like Chaka Khan said, “I’m every woman. It’s ALL in me!”
