Disposable People: Obama, the TPP & Human Rights Betrayal

As we know, Obama turned his back on many in his own party and, in concert with Republicans, forwarded the multinational corporate agenda’s TPP. Since that time, the administration has sunk to new lows in its zeal to finish the deal on the TPP, even allowing one of its members to get away with forced slavery & other human rights violations.

WikiLeaks Is Raising $100,000 Bounty For Full Text of Trans-Pacific Partnership

The media outlet Wikileaks on Tuesday announced a campaign to raise a $100,000 cash reward for the complete text of the agreement in order to end the mystery surrounding the actual contents of the deal that involves the U.S. and eleven Pacific Rim nations.

“The transparency clock has run out on the TPP,” said WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. “No more secrecy. No more excuses. Let’s open the TPP once and for all.”

NEWS FLASH: New TPP Leak Confirms U.S. Worker & Taxpayer Fears

NEWS FLASH: New TPP Leak Confirms U.S. Worker & Taxpayer Fears

The Trans-Pacific Partnership’s (TPP) Investment Chapter…reveals how the pact would make it easier for U.S. firms to offshore American jobs to low-wage countries while newly empowering thousands of foreign firms to seek cash compensation from U.S. taxpayers by challenging U.S. government actions, laws and court rulings before unaccountable foreign tribunals. After five years of secretive TPP negotiations, the text – leaked by WikiLeaks –proves that growing concerns about the controversial “investor-state dispute settlement” (ISDS) system that the TPP would extend are well justified, Public Citizen said.

World At A Crossroads: Stop The Fast Track To A Future Of Global Corporate Rule

As globalization begins its third decade, the question before us is, do we want corporate rule or people’s rule? Is the wealth of a few more important than human rights? What can be done to empower people? Should the nation-state become a thing of the past and corporate sovereignty reign, or is there another path? This is a debate that cannot be fast tracked; it must be brought into the open before trade agreements cement corporate rule for decades to come. We urge people to put their effort into stopping fast track legislation in Congress. This will not be easy because it is high on the president’s agenda, many pro-business legislators and entities like the Chamber of Congress. It can only be stopped if people work together persistently to oppose it.

Trans-Pacific Partnership Explained & Why Fast Track Must Be Stopped (2Min Video)

Robert Reich gives one of the best descriptions of the nature & dangers of the Trans-Pacific Partnership in a less than 3 minute video. The effort to have this secretive, nontransparent proposal put on a “fast track”, smacks of Tammany Hall-style politics that benefits no one but fat cats. And, after years of the public hoping for bipartisanship in Congress, isn’t it ironic that this is the issue where Republicans are supporting the president in large & growing numbers?

Calling TPP a ‘Death Pact,’ Health Advocates Rally Outside Secretive Trade Talks

Braving snow and blizzard warnings, health, labor and environmental activists rallied outside a New York City hotel on Monday where industry leaders met with international trade representatives to commence the “final negotiations” over the secret text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Leading the protest and carrying signs that read “Hands Off Our Medicine,” protesters with health groups Doctors Without Borders and Health Global Access Project (GAP) warned that the TPP will undermine efforts to ensure access to affordable, life-saving medicines in both the United States and abroad.

TPP Negotiators Hit With Protests That Media Don’t Cover

Shouldn’t it be a trade violation to threaten to move someone’s job to another country? Shouldn’t we negotiate trade agreements that increase people’s wages on both sides of a trade border? These are the kinds of agreements we would make if We the People were negotiating trade agreements with representatives of the working people in other countries. Unfortunately that is not the kind of trade agreements that our current trade negotiation process produces.

Harry Reid Effectively Kills Obama’s TPP and TTIP International Trade Deals

Harry Reid, the U.S. Senate Majority Leader has come out publicly saying, “I’m against fast track.” This means that unlike the international-trade treaties that were rammed through Congress under George W. Bush, Obama’s trade deals won’t be — and that they are thus now practically dead.

Fast Track to Income Inequality

Fast Track to Income Inequality

Corporate interests were fiercely lobbying for President Obama to dedicate serious time in this State of the Union speech to pushing fast track and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) in order to try to overcome growing congressional and public opposition to both, but instead he made only a brief passing reference. The White House had come under considerable pressure from congressional Democrats and base groups not to raise these issues, given the stark conflict with the main theme of Obama’s speech. Implementing TPP – a NAFTA-on-steroids with 11 nations – would undermine Obama’s efforts to battle income inequality.
