For someone who suffered from #fibromyalgia for seven years, it’s odd that I’ve never really written a post about it. It was such a defining moment in my life, and yet, thankfully, I never let it define me. So I’ve been hesitant to write about it. It happened, it changed the course of my life, and I moved on. But if I never had fibromyalgia, I might not be writing this blog about holistic health and healing.

Using PET imaging, a recent investigation by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital and Karolinska Institutet in Sweden revealed the presence of widespread brain inflammation in patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Earlier research conducted at Karolinska Institutet also discovered high concentrations of cytokines (inflammatory proteins) in the cerebrospinal fluid, suggesting fibromyalgia patients have inflammation in their nervous system as well.

I remember when I HAD fibromyalgia how confused I was by what I should try, what I shouldn’t try, who I should trust, and who I shouldn’t trust on this healing journey I’d been suddenly thrust into.
Something (luckily) triggered a change in me from being mostly Western medicine-minded to intuiting that alternative medicine was the key to my healing.
But it was a new world for me and I mostly floundered about, reading book after book, and trying different modalities. I visited a number of acupuncturists who sort of helped, but I eventually parted ways with most of them. They just didn’t feel right.

You see, I finally figured out that Ayurveda can be simple or it can be complex. It’s your choice. If you want to dive deep into it like I did (and still do), go for it. But you don’t have to know all the terminology. And guess what You don’t even have to like Indian food! So many people say to me “I just don’t get Ayurveda”. They’re curious, but think that all of the dosha-specific food lists are intimidating (they are) and that they have to know without a shadow of a doubt what their constitution is in order to understand the concepts (they don’t).
