This week, a viewer from my Youtube Channel asked about how to heal an overactive throat chakra, so I created the video above. In it, I explain the true meaning of “overactive” and what it looks like. I also share ways to discover if your throat is balanced — or not. Then I share how you can heal your overactive throat by boosting the neighboring chakras (heart and third eye — which is covered succinctly in this video).
Finally, I share three powerful ways you can directly balance an overactive throat chakra — and two of the ways actually help to balance a weak throat chakra as well!
And at 19:43 on the video, I share a truly simple, yet magical throat chakra balancing meditation. It’s one of my favorites.
And if you’ve been watching my last few videos, you’ve already met my sweet new “man” — my little puppy, Bodhi. Well… he makes another sweet appearance at the end of this one. I feel he’s a great heart chakra booster.
Open Your Throat Chakra with These TPQs (NOT Affirmations!)
Welcome to week five of our series on Transformational Power Questions. In this video, I show you how to open your throat chakra with TPQs so you can experience more authenticity, personal expression, growth, and purpose.
Why Affirmations Can Be Bad for You
If you’ve been following this series, you can skip this section… but if you’re brand new to TPQs, read on…
You may be wondering why I’m suggesting you do TPQs instead of affirmations. Here’s why. Often, affirmations create a backlash in your inner world. They activate your subconscious mind and the voice inside of you that objects to things that aren’t currently accurate.
So one affirmation like “I’m rich” can elicit several subconscious negative responses like “No you’re not” or “have you seen your bank account balance?” and so on. Overall, it’s more negative than positive, since one affirmation creates far more negative responses.
This week, I’m sharing 15 different TPQs that boost your throat chakra. Watch the video above and repeat after me to improve five key throat chakra areas of your life. These are authenticity, integrity, self-expression, purpose, and inspiration.
Pick your favorite TPQ and put it on several sticky notes around your personal space. Read the question every time you see it and watch your powerful subconscious mind work for you, rather than against you. The more you read your TPQ, the more change you’ll see.
Have a purposeful, authentic, and super-expressive week Beautiful Soul!
The #1 Myth That Blocks the Throat Chakra Is This:
If I share my truth, I’ll hurt others.
Take a few relaxed breaths, read that statement, and feel into yourself. How does your body react? Are you aware of a part of you that wants to censor yourself so as not to hurt others?
As a chakra teacher (and student), I’m aware that your essence, my essence — our shared human essence — is love. Because the heart chakra is the balance point in our field, it’s our natural resting place. We are love incarnate.
So it’s natural for us to not want to hurt each other.
The problem with this belief lies not in its sweet intent, but in the assumptions and misunderstandings within it.
So let’s dissect the two words that I italicized above — truth and hurt.
What do these words really mean in regard to the throat chakra?
The Meaning of Throat Truth
First, what is throat chakra “truth?”
Throat chakra truth is the deep, personal truth within each of us — expressed through the “I, me, mine.”
It’s not really my opinions about others. Because I don’t have a firsthand understanding of another’s life — only my own. So anything I express about your life is my outside-looking-in opinion about your life.
Ideally, in a healthy throat chakra world, we only share our opinions about others when they’re invited — or at the very least permitted. By “permitted,” I mean we ask if our viewpoint or opinion is wanted before we share it.
And when we share, we do so from the “I” rather than the “you.” Watch the video above to get a better explanation of this.
Can We “Hurt” Another with Our Personal Truth?
The second thing for us to look at here is what does “hurt” mean in relation to our personal truth?
I strongly believe that when we share only our personal truth about our life and being, it’s impossible for us to hurt another.
Yes, I said IMPOSSIBLE.
I’m not saying nobody ever feels hurt. I’m saying it’s not possible for YOU to hurt another with YOUR personal truth. Because that is YOUR domain, not theirs.
In the video above, I give the example of parents who might feel that their gay adult “child” is wrong or bad for being gay.
In this case, the child is only being his or her Authentic Self.
If the parents feel hurt that their offspring is gay, then they’re the ones who are hurting themselves.
Yes, I’m saying if someone feels pain because of who you are or something you’re doing that is an authentic expression of you in your own personal life, then they (and their resistance to you) are the cause of their pain, not you.
And when you express your personal truth to someone who thinks your truth is wrong, you’re actually giving them a gift. You’re asking them to open themselves to more types of personal truth. You’re giving them a chance to practice tolerance and unconditional love.
Often, in life, we don’t express our truth not out of fear of hurting another, but of losing someone or something. We may fear that being who we really are will cause us to lose something we value like a relationship or job. But anything that would disintegrate because we’re being more true to ourselves is challenging us to be willing to let it go. A job or relationship that we feel we have to lie to be a part of is not honoring who we are. It’s stunting our spiritual growth.
In this New Age of Aquarius, we have a big opportunity. We’re being called to love others in an unconditional way that allows them to be different from us. When we can see differences through the lens of love, they unite — rather than separate — us. And that’s what we need in our world right now.
The truth wants to set us all free, but before it can, we must be brave enough to speak it.
This week your homework (should you choose to accept it) is to notice how often you “adjust” your truth. And if/when you do, why do you do it? Out of fear of “hurting” another? Or for fear of losing something? Or for some other reason?
That’s all you need to do. Nothing more is needed.
Awareness is the first step of any transformational journey.
Hopefully, as we all become more aware of the reasons we censor ourselves we’ll be able to choose whether we want to continue to do so — or not.
Thanks for being on this transformational path with, Beautiful Soul.
In each of the first seven years of our lives, we energetically develop the foundation of each of our chakras. Age 1 – root, age 2 – sacral, age 3 – solar plexus, and so on.
And in each of our first seven years of life, we experience a different, basic human need. When these needs get met, our chakras are typically open and strong. And if one of these chakra needs doesn’t get met, that particular chakra tends to be weaker (more closed down).
In the video above, we’re healing your five-year-old throat chakra, inner child. This is the part of you that needs to express your authentic self.
If for some reason when you were five, your voice was stifled or you were told to tell lies or keep toxic secrets, this healing is for you. In other words, your little one could really use your love and support.
There’s a powerful meditation in the video above that will connect you with your throat chakra inner child (at 11:44). But please don’t skip over the intro because there’s important foundational information.
And there’s a suggestion for a cool, inner child healing exercise after the video as well.
I love doing inner child work. It’s never too late to go within and be the loving caregiver your little one deserves. It literally resets your foundation and gives you a new beginning.
May you explore what it really means to be you this week — and express your truth in open-hearted ways!
As you may already know (but just in case you don’t), the throat chakra is blue, its element is sound/vibration and it’s related to your truth, authenticity, purpose and personal expression.
It’s the first of the upper chakras (consisting of throat, third eye and crown), which are related more to the spiritual than the physical realm. For this reason, the “negative” or “dark” shadow qualities come from a different dynamic than the ones in the lower chakras.
In the lower chakras (root, sacral and solar plexus), the dark shadow qualities come from having too much of the energy of a particular chakra. But it’s the opposite with the upper chakras. The dark shadow qualities in the upper chakras come from having too little of the energy of a particular chakra.
Why? Because growing up, our caregivers and culture teach us that it’s bad to be in our lower chakras and good to be in our upper chakras (or the heart and above) where love and spirituality resides.
This kind of socialization causes us to relegate our strong lower chakra and our weak upper chakra qualities into the shadow realm and pretend that they are not a part of us. And this pretending causes us to lose a lot of our chakra power.
Shadow integration is the realization that all our energy comes from one consciousness (the Divine) and we need it all to be whole. When we don’t integrate the shadow aspects of ourselves, they come out in subconscious (leaky) ways. When we understand that we are everything, we can act more consciously and accept all of ourselves and others. Shadow integration creates true peace both inwardly and outwardly.
Here are the 5 Shadow Qualities of the Throat Chakra
Liar (Gift = Imagination)
Aimless/Lacking Purpose (Gift = Being in the Moment)
Fake/Inauthentic (Gift = the Ability to Play Bigger )
Inexpressive (Gift = Mastery of Listening)
Crooked (Gift = Playful, Powerful, Irreverence)
To Integrate These Qualities, Work with These Five Healing Methods
Find the gift of each chakra quality. What does each shadow quality give you?
Of course both of my lists — the shadow qualities and the integration methods — are not exhaustive. There are more that can be added to each. So please share any you come up with here on my youtube page (it’s the best forum for making comments and asking questions).
Thanks for being on this spiritual journey with me!
If you’ve been following my series on animals that boost and balance your chakras, then you know that animals are a great way to shift our energy. Kids love animals for a very good reason – because they are so pure in their energy and they represent all the different types of energies that exist within us.
From the proud fire of the big cat family to the sturdy strength of the bear or bull to the playful demeanor of the otter, or the elegant grace of the deer, animals show us how to truly live in our different chakras.
In this video, I name some great animals for tapping into your throat chakra. You can interact with these animals in life, or stories, or your dreams. They can also be one of your spirit guides.
If you haven’t yet seen my videos for the other chakra animals, here they are:
The fifth chakra energy center that resides in the middle of your throat is related to authentic self-expression, honesty, inspirational communication, personal growth and living your highest life’s purpose.
If you want more of any of those qualities in your life, you’ll want to tap into the energy of these seven animals.
7 Animals That Boost Your Throat Chakra Energy
White Elephant (Hindu)
Birds – especially blue birds and jays
Whale – especially the blue whale
Pick one to focus on and appreciate, and feel your throat chakra energy expand!
In this series on Chakra Personality Types, we are now entering the “upper chakras” – the realm of the spiritual. Do you have a Throat Chakra Personality?
The blue throat chakra resides in the middle of your throat and it’s related to your authenticity, honesty, honor, communications and life purpose. This is where we take things up a notch integrity-wise. The Sankrit name for the throat chakra is “visuddha” which means “purity.”
You can think of the throat as a sort of filter – just look how much more narrow it is than the rest of the body below it! This is where we rise to a higher calling and realize what a huge affect our word has on ourselves and others.
Here are the signs that you have a throat chakra personality:
You’re a great communicator.
You’re an inspirational speaker (and also an inspirational person).
You express yourself in a myriad of different media like speaking, writing, playing an instrument, painting, etc.
You’re spiritual in your own unique way (awareness of the oneness of all reality).
You’re good at keeping your word.
You’re clear on your life purpose and what you’re here to do.
You’re an innovator.
You don’t like to be put in a box. You typically avoid the 9-to-5 type schedule.
You love freedom and autonomy.
You may find it challenging to be faithful in a monogamous relationship (as you prefer freedom in intimacy).
You have the vision and skills needed to create positive change in the world.
You have a strong, pleasing voice.
Who do you think is the iconic throat chakra person?
I have chosen Martin Luther King, Jr., because he fits so perfectly. He was a reverend with a big vision of how he wanted to positively change America (and the world) and he set those changes in motion.
John F. Kennedy Jr. was also a big throat chakra personality too. He had a vision of making us a better country and he inspired Americans to be better.
Your throat chakra is a beautiful blue and it’s related to sound, truth, authentic expression and life purpose.
Before you dive into healing any of your chakras, you should always do a diagnostic assessment, because if you start boosting a chakra that is already overactive, you will actually throw your chakras more out of balance in your effort to “heal.”
So let’s find out if you have a balanced fifth chakra by looking at the signs that show it is underactive. We’ll start with the physical and move from there.
7 Signs Your Throat Chakra Is Underactive
You have issues related to the throat, mouth or ears like tinnitus (ringing in the ears), laryngitis, TMJ, gum disease or major problems with your teeth.
You have thyroid issues – either hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism (under or over).
You have a problem telling the truth. This applies even if you tell a lot of “white lies” and there’s a definite throat chakra weakness if you are a pathological liar.
You don’t express your voice (even when you’re alone like singing in the shower or along with the car radio).
You feel lost in regard to your life purpose. This also means your job probably doesn’t feel very meaningful or like it’s the “right” job for you.
You don’t keep your word. This means you regularly break your vows both big and small.
You often hold back your truth – even when you are doing it to be “nice.”
If you see yourself in four or more of the signs I’ve described, it’s quite likely your throat chakra could use some boosting. You need to start prioritizing YOUR TRUTH above all else. Will someone get upset if you speak your truth? Maybe. That’s their choice. Will certain situations fall apart? Maybe. But do you really want your life to built on flimsy circumstances you feel are sustained by you being inauthentic or silent?
Note: If you see yourself in the signs above, but a written chakra test did not show your throat chakra to be weak, this could be due to a couple things: 1) a bad test — there are many online tests that are short and inaccurate (just marketing tools). A chakra test must have a minimum of 7 questions per chakra (49 total) to be nuanced and accurate. Also, 2) The throat chakra is the one energy center that cannot be measured accurately with a written chakra test. This is due to the fact that if your fifth chakra is weak, you’ll have a tendency to be dishonest on a subconscious or conscious level, and written tests rely on you being authentic and accurate in your self assessments.

If you’ve been following my blog (or youtube channel) then you know I’ve been on a kick for the last few weeks where I’ve been posting music videos of my chakra healing songs from the album I created with Jeff Bonilla, “Chakra Love.”
It has been so much fun turning these songs into visual meditations with the help of my editor!
Today, I am revealing the 5th Chakra Healing Music Video (above). This is both my and Jeff’s favorite chakra song. It came out moody, cinematic, and well — true to itself like the throat chakra. It doesn’t follow a verse chorus format like the other songs we created/channeled. And we love it that way. If you want to hear about how we created it — and learn a little more about it, watch this Making Of Video:
Because the Throat Chakra Healing Song is all about sound, singing and self-expression, you’ve really got to sing along. So here are the lyrics:
Listen to the silence, listen to the song (4x)
Om Shree Vaka, jaya Vaka (3x)
Listen to the silence, listen to the song (2x)
I can speak my truth (6x)
I can whisper my truth
Listen to the silence…
Vishuddha is the Sanskrit name of the throat chakra, and it means “purity.
Vaca is the name of a little known (some say secret) Goddess of the Voice.
Ham is the seed sound of the throat chakra.
As you can see, these are powerful words to sing aloud.
If you want to boost your other chakras, I currently have 4 other music videos you can watch (click on the one you want to sing along to):
ROOT(for grounding, appreciation of Mother Earth and prosperity)
SACRAL (for emotional freedom, sexuality, intimacy and creativity)
SOLAR PLEXUS (for confidence, motivation, more energy and mental clarity)
HEART (for love, gratitude, forgiveness and healing)
