This notion may be borne of a personal bias, I suppose, but I feel confident in saying that we will look back at the 2020 US Election and Bernie Sanders’ candidacy as something special. Building on his efforts in the 2016 election, he set new boundaries for political discussion, and brought into clarity just how much the party had become beholden to corporate interests and how little it cared any more for its traditional base of voters. No one could gain traction with voters without speaking of Medicare for All, a $15 per hour minimum wage, or free tuition. Yet these positions tended to run counter to the corporate interests which supporting mainstream Democrats of the time.
