The Sant Nirankari Mission is a global spiritual movement with followers all over the world. A central belief of the Mission is that the realization of God is the real objective of human life and this can be achieved only through the benevolence of the living true master: the Satguru.
It is particularly timely to reflect on the life and times of Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev Ji, who possessed uncommon wisdom and compassion, and successfully led the Sant Nirankari Mission during a particularly challenging time.
Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev Ji was born on January 12, 1957, into the family of Shri Manmohan Singh Ji and Mata Amrit Kaur Ji. Sometime afterwards, the family moved to Yamuna Nagar. Savinder was adopted and brought up by Shri Gurmukh Singh Ji and Madan Mata Ji belonging to Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Savinder Ji was educated in Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh. In 1966 she attended the Convent of Jesus and Mary, best known as CJM Waverley, a boarding school in Mussoorie. The school was founded in 1845 and is the oldest girls-only boarding school in India. She passed the Indian School Certificate Examination in 1973.
At school, Savinder proved to be a brilliant student and won the respect and praise of her nuns and teachers as a result of her polite and thoughtful behavior.
Savinder Ji attended the Daulat Ram College in Delhi. Not long after, she married Baba Hardev Singh Ji during a simple wedding ceremony, on November 14, 1975, on the eve of the 28th Annual Nirankari Sant Samagam in Delhi.
Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev Ji became a part of the holy family of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji and Nirankari Rajmata Kulwant Kaur Ji as a devoted daughter-in-law. The young, newly married couple followed the family on a month-long world salvation tour in December 1975, where they visited the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, France, Belgium, and Austria.
Baba Hardev Singh Ji became the Spiritual Head of the Sant Nirankari Mission in 1980, and Savinder Ji started to be addressed by the Nirankari world as Pujya Mata Savinder Ji. She was very loyal to Baba Hardev Singh.
She helped organize a special event to commemmorate the death of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji and recognize hundreds of other devotees who laid down their lives while crusading for truth, love, tolerance, and unity.
For her graciousness, Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev Ji was honored as an Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Federation, North America and the Inter-religious and International Federation for World Peace.
Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev Ji helped inspire millions. She had a uniquely pleasant way to attract them towards the Sant Nirankari Mission and encourage participation in various activities to help others find their purpose and meaning.
Her Holiness Mata Savinder Hardev Ji had the advantage of understanding the Sant Nirankari Mission and she promsied on the very first day of her ascension to spiritual leadership to take the Mission to the heights after the death of Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj. She asked followers to strengthen their mutual love and cooperation and help her in this holy work, reminding people that “he taught us what an ideal human should be like. His aim was to bring humaneness back and its values back into this world and he achieved all that by living the ideal life because mere words can never have such far-reaching effects. It is in the action and noble intentions that fulfill a vision like this.”
Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev Ji considered these losses as a divine destiny and exhorted devotees to keep marching with the same enthusiasm and steadfastness to help take the light of spiritual knowledge to every corner of the world and remove the darkness of ignorance.
Satguru Mata Savinder Hardev Ji died at 5.15 pm on August 5, 2018. Her legacy and lifetime commitment to the values of the Sant Nirankari Mission will not soon be forgotten.
