We don't need to tell you that the world is in a mess. On any given day, you can watch the news, and witness the disastrous effects of climate change on our planet. You will hear stories of other types of environmental damage too, including tales of those big businesses who pollute our oceans with oil.
Thankfully, much is happening to reduce the damage that is taking place in our world.
Businesses are doing their bit to protect the planet and their reputations. Through the use of low carbon vehicles and sustainable packaging methods, they are doing much to improve their carbon footprint. Technologies akin to these oil stop valves and coalescing media are also being used to reduce contaminants entering our water supplies.
And we can do our bit too. We can recycle, reduce the plastic we use at home, and reduce home energy costs by switching to sustainable utility companies. These are things you are probably doing already. But guess what? By thinking outside of the box, there is more you can do.
Here are some ideas.
#1: Give to a local food kitchen
How many times have you thrown away food? It might be because you have cooked too much, or it could be because you have bought too many food items close to nearby sell-by dates. When you throw these foods away, they end up on our landfills. And when they end up on our landfills, they turn into destructive greenhouse gases.
So, our first piece of advice is this: be sensible in the kitchen and when at the supermarket. Don't cook or buy more than you can eat. But if you do have more food than you know what to do with? Be charitable and give to a local food kitchen. Lots of people will appreciate the food you give away, and you will protect the environment too.
#2: Get crafty
Do you have kids at home? If so, save your plastic bottles and have a craft day with them. This way, you will reduce plastic waste and have a fun activity to do with your children. Check out these plastic bottle craft ideas, for example.
And what about your bubble wrap? Instead of throwing it away after popping the bubbles, you could use it to insulate your outdoor plants from the cold weather. You could use it to insulate your windows too, or you could try any one of these bubble wrap ideas. Think twice before discarding it after unwrapping your parcels then, as there are many uses for it.
Consider the same for any other items that could be thrown into the waste.
#3: Blog about green living
If you're living a green lifestyle, don't keep all of your good ideas to yourself. Create a blog, and then share tips online. You could link our craft ideas, for example, and you could share eco-friendly cleaning tips and other pieces of household advice.
You can raise awareness too. Let people know what is being done to protect the environment, perhaps by linking articles from our website. And let people know how to shop sustainably by pointing them in the direction of those companies who are doing their bit to go green.
By spreading the word far and wide, you will make a considerable impact on the world if people take heed of what you say to them.
So, what could you do? The world is in a mess, but it can be saved. And today, you could be the savior that the world needs right now! Think about it, and do something rather than nothing to make a positive difference.
