Watch Marianne Williamson's emotional and inspirational response to the Derek Chauvin trial verdict: “We can repair what has been broken.”
TRANSCRIPT:
Hey. I feel very emotional and I'm sure that you probably do too.
We have seen so much go wrong in America, and it's such a big deal when we see some things go, right.
And the verdict today – obviously, we can't bring George Floyd back and it doesn't mean that we don't have a problem with any law enforcement, but it does mean that a very important institution of American Justice held today. There is something very very profound about being judged by a jury of your peers and Derek Chauvin was judged by a jury of his peers.
And there are so many ways that black people in America can say with absolute legitimacy that is hard for black person to get Justice in America today.
George Floyd does not get his life back, but his family and others can see that justice was done by our criminal justice system. And to me not only is the issue that I feared as so many people feared that this country was going to explode if Derek Chauvin was acquitted, but also that America needs to see that we can make right what has been wrong.
We all desperately need to see that because it's so tempting right now to think it's just all gone too far. And we all know that one decision in one murder trial is not going to fix everything. The problems are gargantuan. But when we see any aspect of our system hold, then it can give all of us hope and faith in what we can do.
And it wasn't just you know – kudos to Keith Ellison, Attorney General of Minnesota. Keith's an old friend of mine by the way – not only the prosecution, the prosecutors that did such a wonderful job, but I keep going back to those jurors. There's something really profound about this.
So we need to all do what those jurors did. We need to all consider ourselves part of the solution if there is to be a solution – each and every one of us. There is no easy answer to all that has gone wrong in America. We're having a whole systems breakdown. And a whole system solution means every single one of us.
So, thank God for for George Floyd's family. Thank God for a community that I know has every reason to feel unjustly treated. We still have a lot of work to do. But today we showed ourselves, America showed itself, hose jurors showed us, the system in Minnesota showed us that we can get it right.
We can repair what has been broken. We can show mercy and justice and humility. We can demonstrate that human life matters. Every human life matters. And today our system said that George Floyd's life mattered. It's really important!
Let's go forward. Let's each of us do what we can because this repair work has only just begun.
God bless America. God bless the world. God bless George Floyd. God bless George Floyd's family.
And, we must hold compassion for everyone – everyone involved here.
And, may … be blessed as well.
God bless everybody. See you later.
