If the thought of living in Evergreen CO has ever crossed your mind, then you ought to entertain that thought a bit more. As a person from the city, I can tell you a few good reasons why you should move to Evergreen CO. But since you are already reading this, we might just have been thinking the same things. In which case, let me affirm your conviction. And perhaps I can make you believe that living your dream does not necessarily have to be so complicated.
That first thing I want to point out is that there is not much information about Evergreen CO. It is probably just out of pure dumb luck that I happened to stumble upon the place. This is one of my motivations in writing this to ensure that everyone that needs to hear about this place gets to have my first hand knowledge about the place.
From the Big Apple to Living in Evergreen CO
It all started in the year 2013, when I was still tending to my adequately paying job in the bustling city of New York. My fiance and I wanted to start a family but always thought that it would not be a good idea for us to raise a child in the city. We were both out of towners who tried our luck in the big apple. She was a theater actress and I work at a high-tech company. The pay was good and I was on the front row seat, drinking in the cultures of the world collide in one big city. I paid little mind to all the commotion going on around me. The crimes, the scathing weather, the generally mean demeanor of people you meet, were all just prices I had to pay for a career and life I gladly pursued. But, when the thought of raising a child became part of the conversation, I knew that I had to become more aware of the environment I am in.
I could have lived out my entire life in the city, but never in my thought then had I ever figured that it would be a good idea to raise a family there. So I sat down with my soon to be wife after a performance and discussed. She and I were already actively trying and because we were so busy with our daily lives, we have not really talked about the kind of environment we were going to raise our child in.
During the moment of solemn discourse, I was sobered. I knew I had to plan our great escape from the city and that was when I started looking for options. I grew up in Denver and the rockies were not the perfect place but it was simpler compared to the situation I was living in then. And I recalled a memory I had going with my family in my younger years to a lake house in Evergreen Co. The memory was vivid and it was lasting and boy was I glad it did.
The Weather Situation While Living in Evergreen CO
Growing up in Denver, I was not too about what the weather was going to be like. If anything, it was going to be an improvement over the weather conditions in New York. That was the assurance I kept telling my fiance then. She, however, was not entirely convinced. After all, she grew up in the fair weather city of Dallas. And if we were going to be moving anyway, she suggested going into a place where we would not have any qualms about something like the weather. So before moving to Evergreen, we planned a whole holiday there together. During which I wanted to experience what the place had to offer. But more importantly, we wanted what its worst was going to be like thus we booked for a winter vacation.
My fiance already had visions of the place even before we started packing. She already factored in the price of the snow shovels, snow shoes and other tools for the Arctic that we had to consider in our budget. Of course I knew she was wrong but being the literal drama queen that she is, she kept me grounded. I would definitely hear it from her if I seem to be rushing my decisions.
So, at the moment of truth, after we packed for a snow storm, we made our way unto the place that could be our new home. And when we got there, the weather was nowhere near what my fiance had advertised. Instead of the blizzard we were expecting, we saw a weather that we could just characterize as heavenly. Of course living here now, I knew that it was not true all year round. During the usual winter months from November to February, we experience a few snow storms here and there. The houses are usually built at elevations between 9000 and 7000 feet. Naturally, the lower you go, the less snow you will be experiencing. Generally, the snow storms are not going to be too bad. The worst you can get is at nine inches of snow during February. In spring, there are two or three snow storms at most. And each would give a foot of snow or two.
Living in Evergreen CO is Heaven
My fiance then and my wife now were not entirely wrong about the snow situation. But, living near the rockies, we already know what we were up against. Knowing my wife, she had already prepared for the worst and in no way will we be living here unprepared.
What the snow situation has made us realize is how competent the local government is. Never have I ever had to cancel any of my plans because the roads were blocked by snow. There are some days where the snow is a bit heavier than usual and in those cases just shovel your way out of it and continue on with your day.
