Pallet delivery is a pretty simple procedure in itself. If the pallet delivery service you choose is able to deliver your pallet from point A to point B without any problems, the task and responsibility of preparing the pallet to ensure its protection and stability falls on your shoulders. If you want your pallet to reach its destination safely and in one piece, you should follow best practice in pallet preparation as well. The idea is to pack your pallet to maintain its strength and durability, not only on the outside but on the inside. Items can become damaged not just externally but also internally. It's always best to use high-quality materials such as cartons, shrink wrap, tape, and of course good quality pallets. So how else can you easily and properly prepare your pallet for shipping and delivery? Here's how.
- The first rule on how to send a pallet in the proper way is to make sure to load your items and goods in separate containers or boxes and make sure that these boxes are properly packed and with no air inside. If there is loose air, the goods can get damaged or even spoiled. The appropriately-sized box is essential; select materials such as bubble wrap and foam carefully. Don’t be stingy with the tape if you don’t want the box’s sides to tear or the flaps to get unsealed, particularly in the centre.
- Arrange the different boxes together; do this as carefully and systematically as possible. Boxes that are heavier should be at the bottom whilst lighter ones should be placed on top. Your boxes should not overhang from the sides, either. Ensure their proper alignment, or they can end up moving or getting damaged.
- The load should also be evenly spread – not just on the boxes on the pallet, but inside each box or container.
- If there are boxes that are loose, use empty cardboard boxes and flatten them on the different rows alternately, so the boxes are stabilized.
- If you want additional reinforcement for your pallet, include corner beading made of cardboard and incorporate this on the whole exterior of the pallet.
- Once your pallet is reinforced, shrink wrap it carefully and securely and make sure it is tightly packed. Again, don’t be stingy – use the shrink wrap liberally and wrap the pallet three to four times around. Don’t forget to wrap the pallet’s top portion with shrink wrap as well, but don’t do this fully so the forklift will have no difficulty lifting the pallet. If you want the shrink wrap to be tougher and more durable, twist it first before wrapping it around the pallet.
- If you want the pallet to be even safer and more secure, you may want to invest in nylon straps as well.
Once you have wrapped and secured your pallet as best as possible, you can easily look for an online courier service which can provide you with a quote. Compare quotes so you get the best deal. When you have chosen your quote, simply fill in the booking form and wait for your chosen courier to pick up the pallet and its contents.
