Each living human is a unique universe in their own right. That applies to our perceptions, our energy, how we interact with the world. It also applies to our unique DNA, and how our bodies process what we ingest.
A number of studies in recent years have made clear that the idea of a one-size-fits-all diet is a lie. One 2019 study looked at the effect of meals on 1100 adults, including 240 twins. They found that different people, even twins, react to identical meals very differently.
This means that whenever you try a new diet, you have to pay attention to the signals your body sends you. Don’t assume that just because something sounds healthy it is going to be good for you. There is more to health than just numbers on a weight scale, too — a good diet can turn your life into a more energetic and fulfilling experience before you lose a single pound.
Here are some signs that will tell you your new diet is going well.
1 – You’re sleeping better
What you eat can affect how you sleep in a number of ways. One of them is that food affects your hormonal balance, which is critical in regulating healthier sleep cycles. If your sleep is more regular, restful, and comes more easily; these are signs that your diet is going well.
2 – You feel satisfied after meals
Junk food is chemically engineered to never leave you fully satisfied. Feeling satisfied after meals is a sign you are on a good, healthier diet. You should be able to feel like you’ve eaten enough after a good meal, despite not being stuffed full.
3 – Your clothes don’t fit
Remember, muscles and bones are denser than body fat. Which means that you may be losing fat even if your weight hasn’t changed, or if it has gone up. Keep an out for signs of positive change that go beyond the weight scale, such as pants being too loose around the waist, and shirts being too tight around the arms and shoulders — signs that you lost fat and gained muscle mass, respectively.
4 – You have more energy
Food is fuel. All the minerals, vitamins, and nutrients you consume are important to keep the body running properly. If your new diet has you feeling more energetic, if it makes it easier for you to get out of bed in the morning, if you no longer feel like coffee is mandatory mid-afternoon — those are all very good signs. Signs that the fuel you are consuming has the engine running well.
5 – Your mood has improved
What you eat affects your hormonal levels, which in turn help regulate your mood. Adrenaline and cortisol will leave you stressed and anxious, ready to snap. Excess of insulin caused by high sugar consumption may cause mood crashes. If you have been feeling happier, alert, confident, motivated, and/or sharper, your new diet is going well.
Remember to supplement your diet with other healthy habits. Meditation and exercises can also contribute to a healthy hormonal balance. CBD can balance hormone levels and make sleep come easier.
